Riderocket Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 (edited) I have a question for the developers. I know Rise of Flight and IL-2 use different damage modelling, but at the moment the damage model for the WW1 planes seems a bit too hard, they need to crumple more like in rise of flight, Because after all they are made of Canvas and Wood. i'm not sure if its on their to do list but i hope it is. and... where is questions for developers gone? Removed from the forums I think. The devs don't have time these days to answer many questions. They have a full schedule. Damage model for all planes went through some pretty serious overhauls and updates lately, I doubt we'll see much more work on that in the near future. But who knows, as flying circus gets closer to full release they may take a look at damage modeling again for WWI kites.

No they do not need to crumple. You need to aim at the pilot and engine area, which is now much more vulnerable than in RoF's terrible damage model. 1
AndyJWest Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 If a bullet hits canvas, it makes a hole. For the aircraft to crumple, you need to do significant damage to structural members. Not necessarily that easy: (This is a Sopwith Tabloid reproduction, but not structurally very different from e.g. a Camel) 1
PatrickAWlson Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 as @unreasonable said = hit meat or metal. Some planes were shot down when critical physical components were hit causing collapse, but it was not the norm. Non fatal victories were usually scored with engine kills or wounding the pilot. Fatal victories usually involved flames or killing the pilot. One thing to note is that these planes had near zero pilot protection. The whole pilot was effectively exposed from all angles.
nop51flyboydee Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 i think what riderockt means is a plane hits the ground it shouldcrumple and not stay so intact.
