Hello Folks

Me and a couple of friends have been playing Cooperative missions together by creating a server within Sturmovik the game.

We don't seem to be able to play Dogfight missions, it loads but we just end up sitting in Spectate and can't select our planes.

I keep stumbling across comments about "DServer's", we are relatively new to the game but from what I gather it's an independent Server that runs outside of Sturmovik using a separate game key. I've found said program but I don't particularly understand why I need to do this when we can run the Cooperative missions without problem.

My questions are:

Is a Dserver necessary for Dogfight missions? Some maps we've downloaded say that you require a DServer. Can someone help me understand why I need to have a Dserver and cannot just create a Server in game like we have been doing for the Cooperative missions please?

Yes you can run a Dogfight Mission through the in game DF Server the same as you have done for CoOps with the caveat that MCU Check Zones will not work.

This is why user made dogfight missions available for download, such as my own, have made it clear that the mission will not function properly within the in game DF Server.

I just re-tested the Dogfight Example that is within the game. Works fine and you should be able to click on one of the Airfields, Choose a plane that you own and start flying.

You seem to have done this already but the procedure will be:

<Multiplayer>

<Dogfight>

<Create Server>

Navigate to the Dogfight Example. Add to the rotation. You might need to recheck the Common and Server settings then start server.

Thank you Tips, It was in fact one of your maps that I read that it had to be DServer so honoured that your actually the one responding to me personally :)

So check zones work in Cooperative but not in Dogfight unless running a DServer (I wonder why they made it that way).

As for obtaining a Dserver one has to request this from the Sturmovik technical support I believe?

Bug... and apparently a well dug in one as certainly the Devs would/will correct this if possible. Imo they have done a lot of improvements with online play over the years...

That said, the missions themselves could be changed to use Proximity Triggers as opposed to Check Zones with perhaps some Complex Triggers thrown in and an eye towards the hosts CPU and Broadband performance.

Not overly hard but involved and somewhat time consuming with the chance of having a dropped link or two gumming up the works certainly as one went through the groups and added an invulnerable entity for the Proximities object .

That would be correct.

Good Luck out there...

See "Install and Update a Multiplayer Mission Server" on pg. 167 of the editor manual.
