You spotted it before I even had a chance to update :)

Yes, part two is up and this time around we're talking about IL-2: Battle of Bodenplatte. The map, future Collector Planes, engine boosts, etc.

Jason: “I’m sort of kidding, but anyone up for a Meteor, Shooting Star, Do-335, He-162 package?”

Hell yes I'm up for that! (Well mainly the last two.)

I know this is wishful thinking in the extreme but maybe an Me-163 in the package too? ☺️??

Thanks Shamrock, great reading, can't wait for Part 3!

Very nice Part 2!

Jason mentioned a few more optimizations. Would this eventually lift the performance to a level where larger bombers are possible? My performance is already stellar, so it makes me wonder.

Nice one.

Im curious to know more about how they will decide to portray the airfields.  By 1944/45, most had already been bombed into submission, conquered, occupied and hastily repaired again.  The scars were still there, even years after the war.

That’ll be interesting. I suspect they will be in good condition to start but they can easily destroy things for Career and campaign missions. Just look at the bombed out base you fly from in Ten Days of Autumn.

Nice reading, thanks. Looking forward to performance improvements, which are necessary.

Late war pack with He162 and Do335 would be nice!!

Hopefully it won’t be like that.  Otherwise the only time you will see the landscape as it actually was is during an ultra-rare and meticulously handmade mission.  At all other times it will be like a golf course.  Rather like Pitomnik and Gumrak in BoS.

If you get a chance, it would be good if you can ask about it, as its and issue that is central to the Bodenplatte package.  Bodenplatte was after all the "Battle of the Airfields".

Thanks for the interview! I can't wait for the next one.

Even if this is still partly unclear in the future (especially when it comes to the possible planes) it makes my heart beat faster. A fun set so far that would definitely suit my taste (please give me my little sweet Pfeil!).  But also the more or less sure knowledge that it is in the interest to make the iconic B-25 playable fills me with excitement!
Or alone the possibility of the " doable " things like the Mosquito! Maybe I am a little too enthusiastic but so far everything sounds very nice and promising.

best regards Rico

They should make Meteor it fits the map they building and they can make historical SP campaign for it and have it in career.

P-80 was in britain and in italy in late 45 so dosent fit, 335 and 162 also dont fit map.

163 is also not fiting map area and you dont have big bombers to attack.

Meteor is easy win win option for them, one more jet, its on allied side and its historicly good for SP part of game.

I'm hoping he means server performance? I have no problems with my FPS, but adding several AI bombers kills my DServer performance as one core hits the ceiling. If the workload could be shared to several cores, that would be stellar and (I guess) would make larger bombers and formations possible.

About additional planesets: I would buy a late war pack, that is for sure, but I've always liked early/mid war stuff more. As aircraft speeds are not too great, flying and fighting is much more engaging and fun.

Yes. Reading the interview gave me hope they do the Meteor Mk III which saw action with 616 Sqd. That would be a great plane to add besides the Spit XIV.

Yep meteor would be nice too, but I would like to have Ta152H more.

I would love to do a Typhoon as well, but as part of an earlier plane-set.

I sincerely hope I'm reading too much into this. I can see why they settled for the Tempest, but the Typhoon Ib was too important during the BoBP timeframe to not add it as a collector aircraft. Moreover, I hope this isn't meant to indicate further postponement or even a cancellation of Asiatic-Pacific-Theatre content.

I think a Hurricane would serve the series better than a Meteor.

Nice to read that rendering is on to do list as ships are difficult to spot over greater distance.

Sad to read that 150 octane fuel and spit boost are under "maybe" and not WIP as they were widely used.

Spit XIV with teardrop canopy and cutback fuselage as collector plane is something i hope for the most, along with flyable B25 and AR234.

So much on the wish list while devs being streched on 3 projects makes me regret i supported Flying Circus (i like it but not much as ww2).

I hope in the future 3rd party studios will be independent in developing ww1 and TC not delaying ww2 content.

I realy hope they consider making just maps of some areas that have good overlap of existing airplanes in game, they could sell map and acompanie it with carieer or campaign for SP (95% of users as they say) for lets say 29.98$, and still have this system working for MP where if you dont have map but you have airplanes you can play on it ( they could live without 5% of MP ppl not needing to buy new maps). It would expand game easyer then full DLC 5x5 and map, and maps in this game are realy great and you cant realy fined any problems with them, and with new tech they have for BoBp map they could probably make them faster then before.

If they make a Typhoon I hope it's the later variant with four blade propeller and the Tempest tail, or maybe have those features as a mod. I also read somewhere they had armor plates at the side of the cowling, but couldn't find any detailed diagrams of it.

The Meteor never saw air to air combat.... when it did deploy to France it was used in the ground attack role.

Meteors moved to Belgium 3 weeks after the Bodenplatte affair.

They were used as recce and ground attack and only scored 'kills' on aircraft on the ground... they never shot down an enemy aircraft.

If they sold map packs separately, using the same planesets, I would absolutely purchase them, as long as they had a career option. I spend 90% of my time in Career mode.

If they wanted to take some time after BoBp to work on extra maps and collector planes I wouldn't object.

OMG, Jason mentioned the P-80 as a possibility!?!?!? I know some will squawk at that but boy it would be a great addition in my mind. Great interviews again.

Always good to have the thoughts of the development team particularly those hints at possible additions.;)

I would like to see the Meteor but I think a Mosquito overall could be considered a better return on development funds for the theater and possible further expansions, maybe they could also modify the A-20 for Europe as it is already available, anyway, time will tell.

Thank you very much for the interviews, really appreciated.:drinks:

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

When I read that my first thought was: WOW, we might get something like the planeset back then in SWOTL, which was a lot of fun in the 90s and had a great Career/Campaign, almost a game within the game.

It wasn´t the fault of the Meteors. Almost nothing was left of the GAF in the air which faced 2nd TAF in 1945.

A player controlled B-25 eventually...awesome! My favorite looking medium bomber of all time.

They can have ground attack misions for them ( like they do for other ground attack airplanes in SP ) , its great chance to include other iconic jet airplane, and it was there so no need to make new map for it. And no other sim will have it and you can get jet vs jet scenarious.

That plane always reminds me of the Catch-22 movie playing in Italy 43/44. Treacherous old man: "But I'm afraid you have it backward. It is better to live on one's feet than die on one's knees.”

I'd rather have aircraft that served in greater numbers in the proper theater than "1946ish" aircraft. Great interview!

Quote from the interview:

If anyone has detailed info about American turrets like drawings, manuals, pictures etc. please send them to me. Proper references material 90% of the battle.

If anyone can relate this info to Jason .. this guy has it all, all manuals, references and hand-on experience

I was thinking the same thing. Also, the team that made the B-24D for the old game must have a whole lot of info on turrets, I remember one of them chewing the fat with our bomber expert over at A&A long ago and I seem to recall a lot of highly technical and interesting info going to and fro.

Love the prospect of having more jets in the Sim, the thing that has always made il2 more fun was all the "what if" stuff you could do. They currently have the perfect platform for this and can't wait for what the future holds!

Thanks for doing this interview.

Good to hear about all those planes coming.

Same here, I will buy any WWII stuff, any front, but not later 1946 planes or Korea and later stuff, they dont have the historic feel.

A Meteor would be fun if we could also get some V-1 emplacements with some missiles to shoot down, I know we don't have English bases for them to take off from but it'd still be fun! V-1s were operated from the low countries with some attacks directed at ports across the coast, so it's not ahistorical for them to be a target in our map and timeframe
