Key binding woes

Asking here and seeing if anyone else has this problem. I have Kanttori´s throttle that has a lot of functions, windows sees some 100 buttons +several axes. I use Joystick Gremlin to get them all used and seen in BoX. But now I also want to fly Cliffs of Dover and it naturally needs to be mapped properly. My question is that how many buttons does CloD see or recognize? It seems that if I try to map them "off the bat" it is around 30 or so, rest are not seen at all. Axis mapping goes fine as does stick mapping, no problem there. It is just the amount of buttons CloD "understands" that is a bit undocumented. Hopefully the number can be increased as there are quite a few things you could map making flying easier. Anyone found a solution or any tips from TF?

32, I found that info somewhere when I was trying to program a T-50 throttle to handle both CloD and BoX.

So the same as old IL-2 had. Thanks for the information! I hope TF can at some point add support for more, when they have time and resources and if it is feasible.

Please post that on our bugtracker.

Is matter of use - in game code, the  latest DImput DLL and increase buttons support up to 128.

Filed a Feature Request #1121. Sokol1, what do you mean? That TF could do that or a player can do it? Would that be approved by TF? I would be happy with a fix from TF :)

This  version of Direct Input with support for more buttons need be integrated in game code by game developers.

Meanwhile you need use keymapper with this support - Joystick Gremlin, Joy2key...

Hi,

IMHO the Key shortcut story/struggle of COD (Blitz) has 2 sides to it ...

Great flexibility of course ... so much can be controlled/changed it seems (compared to BOX?).

OTOH I, personally, would love to have (nearly) the exact same key-assignments as the IL-2 BOX defaults but

it doesn't seem to be that easy to me at least.

Please, can anyone who uses both IL-2 COD-Blitz as well as BOX help me with e.g. the 4.55 COD-Blitz 'keyboard.ini' file like that (of course

 joysticks settings may/will differ) ?

Does anyone have a comparable IL-2-BOX keyboard assignment list for those 36 'Essential'  keys mentioned in the IL-2-COD-Blitz FAQ at ...

Thanks a lot !

Stefaan

Basic difference is that Bo'X have poor support for ON-OFF, ON-OFF-ON latch switches - only Flaps have functions separated for Up and Down, all other commands is done for keyboard operation, e.g. press G once for landing gear Down, press G again for landing gear Up what is not friendly for ON-OFF, ON-OFF-ON switches because thighs can became inverted.

CloD is more flexible in this aspect, anyway it matters only for players with controllers with latching toggle switches like Warthog, VPC T50 throttle, GVL224, Kanttorini throttles (EDIT) or button/switch box.

CloD keymap assignments is stored in the file ConfUser.ini inside ...Documents\1c soft club... dover\

But format is different than Bo'X and more confuse for identify commands, see landing gear example:

Bo'X

gear,                                             key_g,                                            0| // Gear up/down

CloD

G=uc_toggle

NunPad-=uc_up

NumPad+=uc_down

Option for "toggle" and for Up and Down friendly for ON-OFF, ON-OFF-ON switches.

NumPad keys is not default assignment.

I know well both and though your idea a bit unpractical.

Hi Sokol1,

Thank you so much for your in-depth clarification !

I already added it to my personal "CLOD documentation summary ".

This is most valuable because it perfectly illustrates the WHY of the matter.

FWIW beating a dead horse -still-makes no sense so I will, like everyone, live with it and start further key assignment and ... learning.

Kind regards,

Stefaan

@LLv34_Flanker, did you ever find a solid solution to using  Kanttori´s throttle in CLoD?   I'm using one too.

I'm diving into it for the first time with the release of Tobruk and I'm finding that even with using Joystick gremlin, more than half of my inputs are dead when trying to map them.

Hello Whitecrow!

I have bought the Cliffs of Dover Blitz last Tuesday and I have now checked how to map my console with it (and Tobruk). As LLv34_Flanker wrote the CloD supports only 32 button USB devices.  If you’ve followed my Joystick Gremlin (JS) instructions on my Kanttorin Kone website, then you’ve probably got your console already running in the IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles game. GB supports 64 button USB devices and that's the main reason why the same JS profile don't work with the CloD.

I have now a totally new JS testing profile which works very good with the CloD. I share the instructions (and maybe the whole profile file if possible) very soon in my Kanttorin Kone thread in this IL-2 Sturmovik forum and also in my Kanttorin Kone official website.

The trick is that I have used the physic console's (which USB device name is MJ16 or OJ16) 32 first buttons as a "first mapping device". Then I created a new MJ16 - vJoy virtual device (with the Joystick Gremlin) where I have mapped the next MJ16 buttons 33-64 as vJoy buttons 1-32. Finally I have mapped the rest 65-112 buttons as Key Commands. Notice that not all of the MJ16 Circuit Board 112 button slots are not in use, there are together up to 72 different switch, pulse and button functions.

EDIT: The new CloD JS profile instructions for Kanttorin Kone Throttle Console are ready and tested. After it there is also a text file which all my throttle owners can copy and paste to their new CloD Joystick Gremlin profile. :salute:

Thanks for your work on this Kanttori!  ?

We do hope to introduce 64 button support in the future for the game.... was not possible for TF 5.0.

Hello Buzzaw,

With the Button mapping software like Joystick Gremlin it's easy and very quickly done. I use now my console's 72 available button functions with the CloD and don't need keyboard at all when flying (as with the Great Battles series too). Every problem have always some very simple solution! ;)

Buzzaw, if you are member of the Team Fusion (?) I like to thank you for your hard work and great Cliffs of Dover Blitz + Tobruk releases! I have flown and learned the BLITZ whole last week and I really love it! After four years and thousands of fligh hours with the Great Battles series and before it 15 years of Aces High and IL-2 1946 CloD is a really a new and fresh simulator to me. As you can see from these cockpit picture below I really take virtual piloting seriously but always twinkle in the eye... ;)

Thank you Kanttori for your kind words...  everyone at TF is also a Flight Sim enthusiast and we appreciate positive comments from other members of the community.

I am glad you are enjoying the game and hope it provides many interesting hours... we hope it is a good complement to the excellent GREAT BATTLES series.

PS:  That is an impressive setup!  ?

Thanks Kanttori!   Your console has been working great for me.   Your setup looks almost exactly like mine too - we're using the same gear.  :)  My Baur KG-13 is just one of his very early versions retrofitted with updated electronics.

Yesterday I used joy2key to map a number of functions on the console to key commands, which has worked in CloD for the time being, but any solutions you come up with would be great!  Thanks for taking the time to do that.

I have almost finished my instructions in the Kanttorin Kone Throttle Console thread (link below). There are many CloD and Joystick Gremlin / vJoy mapping picture examples and you can judge from that thread some hints and tips to your multi button devices. You can also ask there anything from my console's functions or Joystick Gremlin applications. My consoles 72 button functions are now mapped with the Cliffs of Dover Blitz and Tobruk and they really work! :)
