Hello all! I will be uploading all future FDR1 4K skins I create in this thread. I will use this first post as a quick reference with all skins listed below. Hope you enjoy and feedback always welcomed! S!

excellent skin and thanks for all the hard work ! Skins are like players the more the better. these new skins everyone i putting out really add a whole new dimention, of realism to the game, not to mention stopping Blue on Blue down to a minimum.

would you mind i included your skins in my FC mass FC file , which i share on the FC skin depo Thread, i am going to be updateing it all the time , i am watching this thread now and will include any further skins you post in the regularly updated FC mass skin folder, just trying to organise all skins from accross the forum FC in to on regularly updated easy to install and allows everyone i game to have a carbon copy of all skins so all are avalible, ingame to all, please let me know if this is ok and i will include your skin and any furure ones, if not good just let me know and i will leave them out.

thanks, no hardship for me i had to do it for myself and my OCD forces me to do it orderly ? so just thought i would post it. so skin wise everyone can stay on same page, what FC does not provide, at the moment, we will do ourselves and find a work around ?

Here is the Jasta 7 late  default Dr1, or more specifically, 470/17 ... as shown in the lower image. S!

Here are a couple (hypothetical) options for the early Jasta 7 default Dr1. Jacobs received his first Dr1 (450/17 - which ended up painted with the famous devil's head design) in Feb '18 and had it painted completely in black, but this was prior to the implementation of the late "balkenkreuz" markings. He likely flew 450/17 before adding the devil's head with late crosses, which were fatter than normal, likely covering the old cross. I'm guessing the FEB18 version is the more likely candidate, but I'm partial to the "Early" version with the classic white banners. S!

So ... working on some of my next few Dr1 skins (one of which being MvR's 152/17), I started to notice how in most photographs, Dr1's with the old cross bordered in white, the white border is much thicker than what was provided in the Dr1 template. The image below of 152/17 is pretty common for most Dr1 photographs I've seen from that period. I've updated my bordered cross (shown in the second image) and I am updating the skins I've already submitted with the old style cross. I also found a couple minor details I wanted to fix on all my Jasta 7 Dr1 skins, so I will finish and upload them shortly. S!

Note: I've updated a lot of minor details to all of my previous skins, mostly shading and texture fixes to the Dr1 template, along with my previously mentioned early cross border thickness. All of the above links have been updated and a few of the preview images have been redone. It's definitely not necessary to download the new skins if already downloaded, but the names are the same so I would recommend just replacing the old ones with the new versions at GCF's next update. S!

nice if they have the original names, ill update the bundle tomorrow, and it will just replace the old files, ill make a note for people to overwrite flies so they get new one, thanks very much, for all your hard work and beautiful skins mate, me hat off to you Sir, might find work.

I expect you already do this, Dude, but when I am making a skin, I load up the main game to view the skin, rather than relying on the viewer.

 

It is a faff, admittedly, but I find that for me, at least, it gives a better idea of the tonal balance.

Ya, this viewer is pretty bad for judging colors and brightness levels. I use it for mostly checking detail alignment and some texture effects. I don't remember the disparity from RoF and its viewer being so bad, but I could be wrong. S!

The lighting seems borked on the FC viewer to me - far too dark.

 

I have a sneaking suspicion it IS the RoF viewer and because the FC skins alpha is much more reflective....who knows???

SP1969, maybe a dumb question, but did you turn on the lighting in the new viewer? It's not on by default. I find it too bright, or (more likely) the FC in-game lighting is too dark, hence all the RoF skins appear dark in FC in comparison to RoF. That's why we have to brighten RoF skins if we want to use them for FC. In fact, early on I thought the shaded areas in FC seem to be lacking ambient light. I thought it was just me or my graphics settings, but I'm starting to wonder if there's something to it. S!

I've tried all the settings now, I think, Dude....something is off - to my eyes, which are nearly sixty years old, it must be pointed out.

 

The Alpha in FC is VERY reflective - almost metallic to my eyes, so light playing over surfaces makes them look almost wet, the effect being most noticeable if you try putting a silver dope on the wings. I was constantly backing it off to make my '20s style Hollywood skins.

 

That being said - the sky itself in FC is quite bright, I think, far brighter than European skies at the heights we are flying.

 

Perhaps the Arras map will introduce a more ' polluted' looking airspace, who knows?

Note: Not much information exists for this aircraft, but it was reported as having standard Jasta 11 markings but with a brushed aluminum cowling similar to the photos below. It was a skin that existed in RoF so I thought I'd try making a 4k version of it. S!

Note: I know there already is an "official" skin of this aircraft in FC, however, it isn't correct as depicted with a white tail and, according to information I discovered from Greg VanWyngarden, it does not have the correct Jasta 11 red colored spars. Note: It is described as having the older Iron Cross on the wing undersides when photographed according the Osprey's Fokker Dr1 Aces of WW1. Since it was an older JG1 aircraft, I used the common white cross field for the underside and the olive cross field for the wing upper since I do not have that photograph. S!

I've been trying to fill out any missing Dr.1 squadron defaults, and I noticed a problem with the Dr.1 template (my old nemesis, the "Grease" layer in the Weathering group), which wouldn't allow colors to be visible on one edge of the elevator surface (see the attached image below). It existed on all of my previous skins that had colored tail surfaces, so I've updated those Dr.1 skins to eliminate this error. Obviously it's not a big deal for those who have previously downloaded any of those old skins, but the names are the same so you can always download and replace any of those old skins if you wish. Some of the older skins may have had a few minor improvements included since my working file has progressed over time. I've noted the skins that have been updated. S!
