adler_1 Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 hello attached are 3 images of Kozhedubs aircraft , there is no camo dark grey just AMT11 blue grey all over as per print below , in one image taken at 4 pm i feel it looks bare and very light in tone while in hangar the color looks acceptable . What are your opinions and should there be camo on the wings ? 1
Frenchy56 Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 (edited) Your grey is too light. Darken it a little. By the way, on the 109 skins I've seen from you, the green is way too dark. And the numbers look like they're too narrow, I've seen this on all your skins that have numbers on them. Here's a quote from this site http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Markings/Kozhedubs_White27/index.php "However, IF Kozhedub acquired a new aircraft during this pause--a newly manufactured aircraft with all of the modifications included--then the colouration would be quite different. Virtually all of the La-7s produced between November 1944 and February 1945 were completed in a single-colour upper surface scheme of AMT-11. We know this to be true not only from the factory records, but also from the anecdotal reports of pilots (like Alelyukhin and Dolgushin) who acquired La-7s from the factories at this time in person, and painted them with their own creations. In that case, "White 27" would have looked like this when delivered to the Regiment." By that we can guess that the additional camo was added on the field, so if you want to make a solid color skin, make everything solid color. Edited December 2, 2018 by Frenchy56
adler_1 Posted December 2, 2018 Author Posted December 2, 2018 (edited) LA5FN thanks comments Frenchy ,i thought the only solution would be to darken . I am relatively new to VVS aircraft and only recently began compiling books and illustrations so i'm still in the dark . As for the Luftwaffe greens as you know RLM colors are interpreted differently by various critics not to mention early and late , also i find monitors , light and pc's can display differently , here is the link to give you an idea off how complex it can get , up to today there is still confusion over RLM 82 ans 83 , i have been using this for years . As for numbers i find mine are proportionate to the images i copy . http://penelope.uchicago.edu/~grout/encyclopaedia_romana/luftwaffe/colors.html Edited December 2, 2018 by dog1
Frenchy56 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 (edited) Well, alright, if you say so. It makes your Luftwaffe planes look like toys, in my opinion it just doesn't look right. Maybe some weathering would help if you want to keep the original shade anyway. I'd say you should dilute it, because a plane seeing action on the Eastern Front will definitely lose its original paint shade. You can spot a few things with the numbers: the top of the 2 is supposed to be more elongated, as is the 7. I guess it's hard to describe, but just take a step back and take a good look at them. Often when I used to draw I made things look too small because I didn't take my head out of the drawing and concentrating too much on the smaller details. Thanks for the link though, I've been trying to make some things in GIMP, like uncensoring swastikas from existing skins, however I'm not really used to it. Edited December 3, 2018 by Frenchy56
adler_1 Posted December 3, 2018 Author Posted December 3, 2018 (edited) depending on the theater off operation we take into account light , dust , weather , time , ware and tear , maintenance , conditions and so on . Pacific is different from North Africa , Burma Europe and the Russian winter . If we were really to depict what an BF109 looked like one year into the Russian winter nobody would fly the plane in this sim . I like colors , i want them to stand out in the game , Some aces wanted that until the battles got really cruel towards the end and they removed all kill marks etc incase they bailed out on the wrong side . I have started enlarging the numbers of the germans as per your recomendation ,pls take a look at my recent F2 off Hans Phillip . Edited December 3, 2018 by dog1
Raptorattacker Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 (edited) @dog1 Try THESE and THESE You may find them useful... The La definitely looks too light to me as well. Oh yeah, and THESE. Have fun. Rap Edited December 3, 2018 by Raptorattacker

By the way, lately I've been thinking about the idea of drawing an airplane using this palette - https://create.vista.com/colors/palettes/spring/, I think it would look funny :) On 12/2/2018 at 6:37 PM, adler_1 said: Good day. Your stormtrooper looks pretty cool, but I'd probably try making your gray a half tone darker. It seems to me that in this situation your work will look more cool.
