In the plane settings view, allow to view the plane from more angles

Unless I'm missing something (which is totally possibly knowing me), we can only preview how a plane looks on a horizontal axis in the plane settings view. It would be great if we could look at planes from different angles, which is especially nice when checking out different paint schemes or weapons loadouts.

I'm sure it would be low on priority with all the great work you guys are doing. I'd just love to look at planes from more angles and we can only do that during flight or records.

Just before you start your mission or flight, click on the button "Plane setup" where you can

choose the payload and the skin you prefer:

In this screen you can use your mouse wheel to rotate your plane, allowing you to see it from different

angles and you also see your modifications you previously selected.

*Plane = actual model you choose to fly

Right, but what I meant was that you can't view it from different angles. You can only spin around the plane at the same height. It would be nice to be able to see it from different angles, like above it etc.

It's not like a major issue or anything, just a suggestion so we can view the plane from better angles, especially for the larger planes.

OK, sorry, didn't get it that way.

No worries. I might not have clarified it well.

In your main Il-2 folder/bin/viewer folder there is the skin viewer:  called Viewer.exe IIRC.  You can look at all plane models and skins - including your custom skins - using that utility, and the angle can be rotated how you like. It even has a canopy opening and gear lowering animation.

Awesome. Thanks! I'll check that out when I'm playing again.

Hey, @unreasonable, I forgot to check this out. Thanks for this awesome find! It definitely helps to check out the planes this way.

I do still think it would be nice feature if you could change the view angle in-game when you're selecting paint and loadout, but it's by no means a huge issue or anything. Just a simple suggestion to devs, but your answer helps a lot. Thanks again.

Glad that helps. I agree it would be useful to have a better viewer in the game as well, but not essential.   Having the viewer.exe outside the game is helpful for skinners to check a new skin under construction while using paintshop or GIMP;  loading the game often to check progress is a pain.

Yeah makes sense.
