Good Morning All !

if anyone is interested in some Flying Circus multiplayer today, I'll be on discord all day and most of the tonight.

One obstacle inhibiting pilots collecting on servers with WW1 options, is the 'size' of the maps.

The bots seem spread out and not overly keen to fight, so you end up flying miles to force a confrontation, then go find another one.

A server with some faster action would stand a better chance of maintaining the single player long enough for player #2 to come along.. and so forth.

Anyway - hope you get some action GCF !

which servers are you playing ? Berloga server has multiplayer for dogfighting one or one or in groups, and I think its the The Unprofecnals has a rather aggressive AI, was flying with a someone the other night and 5 or 6 AI planes where over our airfield, constant dogfight, covering each other when landing to rearm.

the discord channel it just a place to hook up with people who want to fly, so there is no waiting for other players to come along in a server, you just arrange a time meat up and use voice coms in game, the only servers that there are not is more complex server and 1v1 dogfight servers.

hope I understood your post correctly

thanks for reply

Funny, I've just had a 20 minute flight on Berloga and seen absolutely nothing.

Yesterday I tried the Ass Clowns - ran out of 33% fuel and never saw an AI.

Shooting Stars is a bit spaced out, especially compared to their RoF offering, but maybe the best chance of some action for now.

Hopefully options will improve when the map arrives, but for now flying WW1 is getting a tad boring (RoF now included in that statement).. never thought I'd say that.

The problem with Shooting Stars is that it is too far away and is using Lapino, which is an outdated map with less sun reflection on surfaces (last I checked). And most people will have a very high ping.

To gather people, the most important key to me is to have the server listed at barans.ru. Why people are so resistant to it? Do you have to pay a fee to be listed there? Discord seems a good solution for squadrons or friends, or people who play simulators to make friends, but from my experience, people in general just want to log-in and fly without the hassle of having to have an appointment with other people. Hence why I suppose all the servers that are in fact populated are the servers that are listed at barans.ru (or the ones in ROF).

Berloga seems nice for the time being (little lag for me, although the ping is high), but the setback is that you can't tell if the people flying there is flying FC or not (mostly not). It would be nice to have a FC server, only for FC, listed on barans.ru and with "WWI" highlighted for everyone to see. If the server is in Western Europe or in the US, even better! I also saw a server in Brazil last week. It could be an option for the Americas. I've seen some Mexicans, Argentineans and Central America people around, and Brazil might have at least a dozen regular players. Or even an option to Western Europe. I'm not sure, but Brazil and Spain was supposed to lay a new submarine cable before 2020. Pings would supposedly be better.

Anyway, I think things will start to crank when the D7 and the SE5a comes into being (they could add the DVa in the same bunch).

For my 2cnt Ass Clows seems a very nice choise if only can convince others to come along, going the extra yard to select mods-on, while it lets you select your own gas load.

It would even be more convenient if it also sported air-starts )))

Of course you need to find their FC section on the map too.

On this I think Berloga has the huge advantage of having no AIs. I'll try to be at Irregular today (maybe tomorrow), but AI is a novice feature, for novice servers. Do they land if the server gets populated with real players?

@GCF I don't see the Irregular server on the list. Is that a server with mods?

not really sure, we just met up in discord, switch to voice channels and bounce between servers, ww1 is still in its infancy, so servers not to good at moment, so play a bit on any server but in beluga today it needs voise coms to find ech other as it seem to spawn axis in air and allies on ground.

just let me see

LOL sorry my reading its the unprofecionals

sorry

I understand that some don't like AI, but I'm not sure you can call them a 'novice feature'. Try telling that to the majority who play offline.

Yes they're easy to beat, and they can be annoying at times, but when MP numbers are what they are now (Rof and the slow FC start) I also think they're absolutely necessary. Otherwise there's often nothing to do - then someone like me ends up trying to fly a bloody Heinkel in the next war..

If there's going to be a fast food server, the service has to be fast.

And the remaining traditional providers of such in both games have slowed things up considerably.

You said it all (offline). Since I don't play single player, I can't comment on what make people tick flying against AI.

In multiplayer we are not playing offline, so it is indeed a novice feature. It gets in the way, it is moronic, you learn to shoot them down in a week or so after you play the game for the very first time and then it becomes what it is, a nuisance. Like trying to play soccer in a field littered with tree stumps. And if you are a veteran, it is like forcing Real Madrid vs Barcelona in a field littered with tree stumps. It makes no sense and I see no fun in it. In fact, I don't know a true veteran that doesn't get pissed with AI scouts. I would not mind in the case of bomber / recon AIs going on a path that is not directly in front of the dogfights, but I haven't seen them yet.

But I do reckon that a lot of ROF players got used to AI because they started flying in ROF after the debacle, so we had just a few novice servers of the past that held the ground (thanks for that). But what it did was to create this notion in the new fresh players that AI was the norm. It was never the norm since 2013 when I started. In fact, servers with AI scouts had basically novices (usually from 3 to 7 players) flying for a week or two before going to the airquake and full real servers, and we all advice the same - "to fly for a week or two on the novice servers to learn how to shoot down AIs, and then you come to the veterans servers. If you think you are not up to par, go back to the novice servers until you feel confident enough to fly with the crowd".

So the AI thing to me in ROF is an anomaly created by the debacle of 2014.

There are different types of servers, you're not representing all of them with those comments. And server choice says nothing of the indivdual participants' skills.

It might not say 'everything', but it certainly says more than 'nothing'.

While I'm sure they may be a gratifying programming exercise for their creators, such sites could be regarded as counterproductive to the encouragement of multiplayer. Let's take what I assume to be your ideal scenario, namely a site listing all available servers and all players using it to check if anyone is already on. None of them take the trouble to start their game and in the worst case seed a server, instead they just gawp at the listing site waiting for something to happen. Can you see potential downside yet?

No there isn't a fee but it comes at a huge cost; a problem some seem completely unable to grasp.

What you don't seem to grasp is that 99,9% of the populated servers are being listed in these websites.

In BoX, the daily go-to server is Wings of Liberty.  It used to be listed at barans.ru, but it isn't any longer.  I don't think it makes a bit of difference once a server is popular and established enough.  In the case where you have few to nobody online playing a game, being on this listing probably has a positive influence for whoever is lucky enough to have even a few people in it, because it can't get any worse:  It's the difference between people bothering to even boot up their computer at all.  When a game is dead, the barans.ru is a positive, because otherwise people would assume that nobody is on, and not bother.

That is neither proof nor suggestive of anything.

Referring to the title of this thread, the most efficient way to find a combat partner is to start your game, then either find a non-empty server or failing that seed one yourself. To further the latter some servers provide assisted seeding in the form of audio alerts, and in fact there is one for FC that has been ready to go for some time. If only the admin could convince himself that it may be worth starting.

Hi guys, this is the problem (finding multiplayers to play Flying Circus) that I am trying to improve, the discord channel is not a server for the game. it is a chat room designed to find multiplayer company, the is a text chat room IL2 Flying Circus, where you can just go on and ask for opponents / wingmen, arrange times to hook up or just drop in and ask if anyone is up for it. there is no structured play, just hook up and play online together. the discord channel also has flight voice coms channels, so you can find each other to start dogfights in Berloga, or flying together against mass AI in multiplayer, in the unprofessionals server. also you can set discord to notify you on phone when someone chats in which ever text channels in you want to follow.

I have been flying Flying Circus in multiplayer with 3 different people at 3 different times in the last 2 days, through people joining the chat channel, I just have discord running in back ground all day and if someone is looking for games, if they ask I can hear it and deside if I have time to play.

no structure just a place to hook up and deside what to do between yourselves.

You could try the FAC server.  It's mods-on so doesn't show up in the normal list.  It's mainly BoX with PvP and some AI, but there is a separate area for FC (also with AI)
