I think what @392FS_Jred is trying to say that if we had VoIP in game you'd have a lot more people on comms, in a squad, for flight coordination. I don't think the feature alone would draw anyone to the game though. It's a commodity that Il2 simply lacks. I fly in VR and for me to get on TS or Discord while I'm already in game is a big PITA, especially if I just met a new pilot who wants to get on comms. We need to settle on the app, then exchange the address/or/invite, which I see inside the HMD and there's no way to copy/paste it out of the chat, i.e. I need to remember it, write it down, open the app.. bla bla bla.. It's annoying to the Nth degree. So instead I just use IM and after 5 mins I stop even using that. For the pancake players it's less cumbersome, but for VR is the biggest pain the in the ass.
Leon_Portier Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 @moosya Can you just alt tab in VR? I have no clue how VR works.

It's just a very finicky affair. When folks get VR they want to get a cockpit as close to being comfortable as possible, realistic and ergonomically effective. I have a small wrist keyboard for system controls mostly (esc/mouse/occasional key presses), mostly everything is bound to hotas buttons. A monitor is pretty far away too, just enough to see what buttons i'm pressing to launch the game, and there's no table, etc. etc.. It's a 'sit yourself in and feel the immersion' kind of a setup. Hence, any interruption introduces a rather unpleasant sensation to my Mu Shu palace.. ?
Leon_Portier Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 (edited) @moosya I do agree that the ingame chat is a big big PITA, but I´m no fan of a ingame VOIP either because of my experiences in other games. Besides a more customizable and easy to use chat, I would love to see the ability just to copy paste into and out of the ingame chat. A really nice feature I think you would like is also join a TS, Mumble or Discord server just by clicking the address in the ingame chat without needing to leave the game. But that'd mean the devs would 'endorse' these clients.. and that'll never happen. ?

Look at every server on DCS and you'll see everyone using comms. What is the issue here? I haven't played for about a year and was excited to come back, but in the two days I've been flying I haven't seen a single person that speaks English on Discord or TS for the server. The Russians seem to have it together. What's going on? A few years ago there was one player with a major drinking problem that used to come on and either make people really uncomfortable or otherwise just be really obnoxious and slowly killed the public TS. Everyone flies on private/squadron comms now.
