JonRedcorn Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 (edited) Apparently I can run the game nearly maxed out now with no issues, had 2xAA on and 160% ss on steam VR and was getting near constant 90 fps in multiplayer. What the heck did they do? I am talking sitting on the runway with like 7 planes around me and trees everywhere, were the trees hammering performance that hard? Guest deleted@134347 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 you on Balanced or High? .. or dare I say.. the ULTRA?
JonRedcorn Posted November 20, 2018 Author Posted November 20, 2018 (edited) High, high shadows, 100km distance, 3x scenery distance, normal grass, simple mirrors, 2xAA HDR, SSAO both on, blurred ground, trying to think of what else I am missing. I was shocked quite frankly. Gunna give ultra a try. Edited November 20, 2018 by 15th_JonRedcorn
kissklas Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Noticed this as well. Ran Ultra with everything full without AA, SteamVR SS at 200%. Managed a stable 65-70fps down low without ASW. I think the vegitation rendering optimization has had something to do with it.
chiliwili69 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Try to run run the benchmark, just to be sure it is real.
OrangeNoise Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Can anyone else comment on this, or am I going to have to leave work early to investigate myself...?
chiliwili69 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Maybe due to this: 27. FPS in forest areas with lots of trees visible has been improved a lot thanks to the tree rendering optimization;

I would think significant performance increase whilst actually playing the game would be as real as it gets. I look forward to trying it out - got company for the holiday this week so very limited on time for now augh. Maybe I can squeeze a little in tomorrow.
chiliwili69 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Jason confirmed the new trees rendering boost performance. I can not test this until the end of the month, when I expect to get again my PC from the storage room... (my son´s penitence) These news arrives just at the right time, when the Pimax5k+ is around the corner...
Alonzo Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 It definitely seems better for me too. Kuban is now not a total pig in VR, and I can reliably get 90 FPS even close to the ground once I switch off the HUD (and flying the P-47 you need to fly it on the gauges anyhow, no need for technochat). I didn't change my settings, just enjoyed the performance improvement. Maybe I will try cranking the settings a bit -- looks like @15th_JonRedcorn has his shadows and some other stuff higher than I do currently. Thumbs up from me but I don't have hard numbers. Unsure if the old Spitfire track will load into the new version of the game.
SCG_motoadve Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 We didn't fix VR performance. Wasn't broken in the first place. We improved how some things are drawn boosting performance. VR was never broken, so don't refer to it that way please. Jason So what happened? I thought you had same system as mine but was impossible to get smooth play even with the 2080 Ti I have. You have been a pain with all your comments. Now you say its fixed, but it wasnt fixed by developers. Glad its working for you now, so you will stop whining, and complaining because I had good performance. 1

"We improved how some things are drawn boosting performance". Can't be any clearer than that, the guys hard up for anyone claiming anything is wrong with his game. Everyone else in this thread seeing performance increases must be delusional as well. Stop posting at me. Edited November 21, 2018 by 15th_JonRedcorn 1
Alonzo Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I mean, "broken" is a subjective thing, but multiple people were measuring that even with today's fastest CPUs the game could not hold 90 FPS in a gen-1 VR headset even with the RTX 2080ti, the world's most powerful graphics card. In fact, because of the CPU-limited nature of the game, you needed a 5ghz+ CPU to mostly hit 90 and none of us have found a CPU fast enough to guarantee 90, *and* most GPUs are utilized in the 50% range unless you push insane amounts of supersample. "Broken" is a bit harsh but "not very well optimized" is totally fair. Either way we got a boost in today's patch which is very good news, thank you to the devs and good work! 1 2

ironk79 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 very noticeable improvement! now i am able to go from low to ultra shadows, but i have to drop SS from 90% to 70%. Still looks great and getting 90fps on my Kuban QMB 4vs4 Test over tree covered hills. The disatant shadows make a huge difference in giving depth to the landscape.
AristocratPanda Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I replaced my old ryzen with a 8600k yesterday, oc'ed it to 4.8 ghz, reinstalled windows and everything, launched IL2 and thought immediately, wow what a nice boost!. But I hadn't realized that the game was updated meanwhile with some performance improvements as well. Well, 8600k improved the game a lot I'm sure, but I'll never know by how much. It's sad...
ironk79 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 perfect timing i would say - only solution, back to ryzen and clean reinstall ? 3
