Thrustmaster T16000 FCS Issue

Hi guys!
The throttle potentiometer of my Thrustmaster T16000 FCS is crazy, impossible to fly with it.

I could to know what model of potentiometer can i buy to be replaced.

First the bad news:

 

Joysticks use a special kind o potentiometer, that different from types common available in electronic stores, eBay, Aliexpress...  have a limited "effective electric angle" of 30º to 60º. Common pot' available have 270, 300º. *

 

This "effective electric angle is the black part (A) in this drawing (of Polishyne F10KV pot used in some Saitek's).

 

 

Due this particularity this type of pot is rarely available in mentioned stores - they are made under order for industry manufacturers.

 

BTW - Thrustmaster don't provide replacement parts for T.16000M, consider this stick disposable if have issues outside of warranty period.

 

Now the "good" news:

 

PS3 like gamepads mini-sticks (thumbstick) use the same kind of potentiometer, and so can be a source for replacement parts.

For replace is required a iron solder (cheap) and ability in make solders - see tutorial in Youtube if have no experience.

 

Other options is install contactless sensor like HALL sensor, Bi-tech 6127,  GVL224 MagRez, MLX90333 in analog mode, but this require more adaptations and so "advanced" DIY skill.

 

Before replace try a internal cleanup of pot - this require caution because risk in destroy the pot when disassembly. See this video:

* And if you just install a 270/300º degree pot in place of "joystick pot", will work?

 

Will work, but result in reduced resolution in that axis. 

Pot in joy work as voltage divider,  so voltage from 0 5v (or 3.5 in Saiteks) in all their angular movement - or in 30º , may vary depends on josytick. 

A 270º pot in a circuit that expect a 30º pot for vary voltage from 0 to 5v, will vary only 0 to 0,55V in 30º,  so the resolution of T.16000M throttle axes - that is already low 8 bits (256 steeps), will be reduced too and you may notice in game throttle advancing in steeps.

You can try to submerge the potentiometer in isopropyl alcohol and give it a shake.

I worked for me...

And since i had to dissemble it to cleany, i also repositioned it.

 

I will send you a pic later how it end up.
