BMA_Hellbender Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 100 years ago the guns finally fell silent after four long and brutal years of war. 40 million combatants and non-combatants died or were wounded during this period of time. We will remember them. If you have some time tonight, join the Rise of Flight community on the Cuban Syndicate Vintage Mission server for a commemorative flight. https://riseofflight.com/forum/topic/52687-11-11-18-armistice-day-100-year-commemorative-mission/ 4 10
Cybermat47 Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 100 years ago, the guns fell silent on the western front. The four years of slaughter that took the lives of over 17 million servicemen and civilians was finally over. But lives would continue to be lost to PTSD, and those who survived would be forever changed. Today, 100 years later, we remember the fallen, and reflect on their sacrifices. We remember the soldiers who charged from the trenches again and again, and those who held the line again and again. We remember the sailors who fought in the line of battle and under the sea. We remember the men who flew above the trenches and cities, photographing and bombing them, and those who shot them down. We remember the merchant sailors who struggled to get their precious cargo where it was needed. We remember the firefighters who doused the flames of incendiary bombs, the ambulance drivers who rescued the victims, and the doctors and nurses who did all they could for the injured and dying. We remember the reserved occupation holders, whose unglamorous toil made everything possible. We remember the innocents, caught in the crossfire of emperors and kings. We remember the horrors and tragedies that came afterwards and that we know today, as those who did not learn from history plunged the world back into the hell of war, again and again. But perhaps saddest of all, we think of the horrors and tragedies still to come. 5 1 2
BMA_Hellbender Posted November 12, 2018 Author Posted November 12, 2018 Thank you all for participating! What a memorable occasion to be experienced with friends from around the world. Salute to all of you! Sadly I kept crashing out of the game with memory errors before the actual formation flight took place. If you were ever on the fence about buying Flying Circus, know at least that the migration to a 64bit game engine should mean the end of the nasty "Out of Buffer memory g_atBonestates.alloc():" memory errors that happen when too many planes (or bits of planes) are rendered at the same time. As it stands, RoF will crash if it uses more than 4GB of memory (the absolute limit for a 32bit application running on 64bit Windows). The official explanation from @Han from way back when: Quote Too much plane models in one DF mission may cause an Out Of Memory error. It's up to hoster problem (appears only on custom missions). Also, in 1.012 4GB of RAM supporting was enabled for x64 OS. So guys with x64 should have no more out of memory problems in any case."Out of Buffer memory g_atBonestates.alloc():" - this may be caused by situation when too much planes figting in one planes plus some of them have been broken to pieces simultaneously. It's engine limitation. This situation is less possible on DEFAULT missions becourse airfields are located far awat from eachother and the dogfight density is reduced. Also, Hoster may reduce the max clients setting to reduce the possibility of this problem. 4GB is quite a bit, but obviously on missions like this with many plane types, objects and custom skins, not quite enough. For reference: a 64bit application such as IL-2 Great Battles / Flying Circus has an absolute memory limit of 16GB on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and 128GB on Windows 10 Home 64bit. The theoretical limits on a 64bit OS are astronomical to say the least (in the order of exabytes). 1
BMA_FlyingShark Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 It was nice to fire up the old game again, unfortunately I couldn't stay long because of work (early one the day after). RoF is still a great sim in its own right. Thank you for setting the mission up. Have a nice day. 1
Sotka94 Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 (edited) Recorded most of it, though had to break it into two recordings due to length. Might use them to get some nice pics. Here's some screenshots taken right during the event: Edited November 12, 2018 by Sotka94 2 4
Beazil Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Sorry I missed it but really nice write ups and pics, thank you.
