Sybreed Posted October 28, 2018 Posted October 28, 2018 Hey guys, so far, my friends and I are still playing DCS a lot because it's a bit easier to setup a campaign for it and play it in co-op mode. But, we all agreed that being able to play IL-2's careers in co-op would be fantastic. How feasible would such a feature be? Could we, say, jump in and take the "place" of an AI teammate ? In other word, 1 player "has" the career and the other players jump in planes and help him out? MP servers are nice, but we're more PVE oriented than PVP, and the PVE servers feel kind of empty.
PatrickAWlson Posted October 28, 2018 Posted October 28, 2018 PWCG currently supports coop campaigns. The limitation at the moment is that all human pilots have to belong to the same squadron. If a pilot is wounded then he is out of action until the wound heals. If he is killed then that persona is gone. The player can have one or more personas active at any time or make a new persona at any time, so if your persona is seriously wounded you can make another one and not miss three months worth of flying. If killed, you make a new persona and start from zero kills. I am not a coop player, so despite writing the code I am probably not the best person to ask about getting the most out of it. I don't even know what PWCG is but I'll check it out for sure, thx. but hmm, since PWCG does pretty much what I wish 1C would do with IL-2, does that mean it's pretty feasible actually? Seems like a nice feature to have honestly.

The project that has been in continuous development since 2009. starting with RoF. Some years ago I did PWCG for Box. PWCG is a Java application,currently at over 100K lines of code. It does a lot. Coop was added in version 5.0, pretty recently. It is a free download, so you can check it out risk free. See the PWCG subsection for more information. 1

I talk to Jason often enough, but there are some challenges with tighter integration. The 1C code is C++, mine is Java. I do this in my spare time (9 years worth ) so there are limits as to committing to a schedule. They are in Russia and I am in the US. They do have access to my code, so they can look at it any time. However, since their campaign code and mine are completely independently written they can't just take a bit of code, convert it to C++ and ship it. When I made the coop changes they were pervasive, thus the major version bump. If 1C was to take on this task they would really have to code it from scratch.

Still, I still hope 1C sees the potential in this and get workings on this feature to make it work on every map. My friend downloaded your App. and we'll probably try it in the coming days/weeks (we're all adults with a busy schedule so gaming time is at a premium nowadays) Edited October 30, 2018 by Sybreed
