EAF19_Marsh Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 I appreciate how busy you guys must be, but any news on the Tempest? Jason asked for sources a while back and hopefully received what he needed so it would be just great if there were a little update, even: "Don't worry. all coming along but still a long way off". Respectfully yours, etc. 1
Smis Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 Yea, would be nice to see how is my most favorite ww2 fighter doing :-)
Talisman Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 Yes, some news regarding the Tempest would be very gratefully received ☺️ My virtual 56 squadron RAF is extremely keen to fly this aircraft as it was flown in real life by 56 Sqn RAF. Happy landings, 56RAF_Talisman 1
ShamrockOneFive Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 I'm pretty stoked about any news on the Tempest V. Can't wait to fly the Tempest again... easily one of my top favourite aircraft of all time.
SCG_Tzigy Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 Just framed me this print. Getting in the mood.. 4
Finkeren Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 I wouldn’t be too worried about the Tempest. Mind you: We haven’t seen anything on the P-51 or P-38 either. They’ll show us, when they have something to show. 1

Danziger Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 Some news on P51 and P38 would also be nice. 2
Finkeren Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 We really haven’t seen anything about the Brisfit either. MOAR BRISTOL FIGHTER NEWS PLZ! 1

Tyberan Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 I'm curious to know how they are going to get the engine noise. I don't think there are any running sabres left, that and didn't it have an unique sound?

Tyberan Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 (edited) Wow that was pretty underwhelming. Was just curious as they did a great job with the spitfire and 109's Edited October 24, 2018 by Tyberan
sevenless Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 This is how the Tempest engine sounds: http://www.hawkertempest.se/index.php/multimedia/sound-files 1
unreasonable Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Now I have heard that, I want the Tempest even more, if that were possible!

EAF19_Marsh Posted October 24, 2018 Author Posted October 24, 2018 (edited) Yes, yes, yes, but apart from the Brisfit, the B-25, the P-38, the P-51, the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, I would like a tinsy-winsy bit o’ Tempest news. Alright? Edited October 24, 2018 by EAF19_Marsh 1
Jason_Williams Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 Tempest hasn't been started yet and I'm still missing detailed photos of the cockpit. The person who has them won't send them to me and the RAF museum has refused to help me after many requests. The Tempests in Florida might be possible to document, but I'm having trouble arranging the time to see them. We'll get it done one way or another, but it's not been easy to get good info on the cockpit from existing real-life sources. Jason 7
Diggun Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 It sucks that some institutions / individuals are being so uncooperative. 1
ZachariasX Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 Thank you for your reply Jason! Just now, Diggun said: It sucks that some institutions / individuals are being so uncooperative. Yes, this is something I really don't understand. It's not that they have something to hide. I full well understand that they don't want "some people" touching their exhibits. But for some money, they should have someone recording the pictures asked. It could also be a form of advertisement for themselves.
[PFR]Sarpalaxan Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 Don't we have someon on the Forum that volunteers at the Spitfire Museum? Maybe if he would ask them they would give them out.
Diggun Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 (edited) It's more that, esp with the London tempest, the rational & reasoning given are very similar to the kinds of things that we say in the library world when something has been declared 'off limits' (usually for the best possible reasons - conservation, contamination, etc) to the general public. If another library person wants to see the material though, it's usually never a problem... It's frustrating because, as with so much, it all comes down to having the right contacts or finding a suitable 'in'... Has anyone contacted these guys? https://hawkertyphoon.com/gallery/first-open-day-october-2017/# i kow it's a tiffy not a tempest, but they might be close enough to be some use? unreasonable Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 The Tempest V PN AP 2458C has reasonably clear contemporary cockpit photographs front and both sides - would make a decent start, although I expect you want more than that. Maybe this time next year we will get there.

Could have been that the two museums work together or are more open to someone from another museum than some developer of a Russian studio they never heared of.

Herne Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 searching for hawker I found :- http://hawkerrestorations.co.uk/our-restorations/ which is literally a few miles from where I work, and a few more from where I live. I reached out to these guys via email because although the tempest is not in their portfolio of birds that they have restored, they may well have easier access to find the information than we do. I deliberately tried to keep the real reason for my interest vague, in the hope that any info may be volunteered rather than sold. I'll report back should I get a response 3

-TBC-AeroAce Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 If only it was the tank museum. They let people climb all over those if you are a youtuber. I wonder why.
SqueakyS Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 @AeroAce - Pretty sure its because tanks are far far more durable than planes therefore easier to maintain and restore. There is a Tempest MK.V cockpit in the Yorkshire Air Museum (Doncaster) but it is very stripped down. Don't know if that would be any use to you Jason https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/registration/SN280 Seems to be very accessable so anyone with a decent camera and a ruler could get some pictures.
Lusekofte Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 I think this can be sorted out like Jason said, of all those planes coming this is the one interesting me most , Typhoon being the reason for that . I think there will be a solution in the end
