In May 1917 this was delivered and spent most of the month at Manston with the Handley Page Squadron of the Royal Naval Air Service. In early June arrived at Mudros in the Aegean assigned to 2 Wing of Royal Naval Air Service. On the night of 9th July the aircraft bombed the battlecruiser Goeben at Stenia Bay and claiming some hits. The crew (Savory, MacLelland and Rawlings) each received awards for the mission.

 

Also on 2nd September (Alcock and Gaskell as it's crew) carried out an attack on a submarine near Samothraki Island dropping two bombs on this. The aircraft ended it's career on 30th September 1917 after having to ditch in the sea near Suvla Bay when hit from anti-aircraft fire during a bombing sortie on Haida Pasha. The crew (Alcock, Aird and Wise) managed to swim ashore becoming prisoners of war.

Circa 1920.

The Gotha 100/17 is the only German bomber of Gotha G.IV type that was used provable by the Polish Air Service. By the way, the serial G.IV 100/17 belongs to a machine build under license by LVG (Luft Verkehrs Gesellschaft); it is not a SSW build (Siemens Schuckert Werke). In fact, SSW also build two batches of 40 planes each, their serials were 1055 to 1094/16 (first batch ordered December 1916) and 200 to 239/17 (second batch ordered May 1917). LVG also build two batches under license. First of them, of 50 planes in December 1916, serials 980 to 1029/16 and the second batch in August 1917, serials 100 to 149/17. The machine shown in profile must be the first one of the second LVG build batch.
