In an attempt to outdo one another they came up with what were termed the "showbirds" Hello Fighter .. I'm sorry that it took a while.Maybe you have noticed ... the ROF version had to be improved, because the side stripes are not the original position. The lighting / Bumpmap conditions of the ROF/BoS version have been modifight / adjusted to fit. Avimimus 615
I wonder if the blue was lighter? It certainly doesn't look dark in the photos. Anyway - impressive work!
Tomi_099 1297
If I take a closer look at the picture, I have to agree with you! Thank you !I think that's what it should look like! Criticism is gladly accepted! This explains itself in the picture that these strips could be black, but are dark red Edited September 20, 2018 by Tomi_099
TG-55Panthercules 550
I'd be wary of trying to judge the shade of blue from looking at the old B&W photos - lots of colors were rendered very oddly in terms of lightness/darkness in those old film stocks. The one thing that struck me about the original version (and even more so about the latest one) is that the blue seems to be too light. If you think about it, he's obviously trying to pattern the color scheme after the American flag, so it seems almost certain that he would have used a darker blue, one more closely matching the blue in the flag itself (e.g., much more like the darker blue on the Hat in the Ring symbol, which was also drawn from the American flag). senseispcc 274
Take care when comparing B/W photos and trying to find the colours rendering there are multiple type of mistakes that one can make. In some picture’s photos of the same aircraft the blue can be darker than the red and on other with a different type of film the red is the darker one?! Strange but true. But in most case of airplanes we now were the red or blue is on the roundels but in early WW1 it is not Always true…

FurphyForum 181
Tomi, Ref the SPAD, personally I would go back to the original blue in your first skin, as I agree with what Panthercules has stated in trying to replicate their National Flag colours on the AC. End of the Day, it's your choice.

Lt. Harvey Weir Cook - 94th Aero Squadron Good things take time! Lt. Harvey Weir Cook - 94th Aero Squadron Captain Weir Cook was credited with seven victories, including 4 enemy balloons and was promoted to captain in 1919. He was honorably discharged from the 94th Aero Squadron on 2 Jun 1919 and assumed command of the 147th Aero Squadron on 18 Sep 1919. On 26 Dec 1919 Cook was relieved of command of 147th Aero Squadron and honorably discharged. Cook and Rickenbacker became friends, known to each other as "Weird" and "Rick." Both were strong proponents of more adequate training for rookie combat pilots, having themselves benefited from aerial combat training by Lafayette Escadrille veteran Raoul Lufbery and others.
