So something really weird just happened to me and I'm hoping there's a logical explanation. I'm flying my 109G-2, last patrol of the evening, completely uneventful so far. I see some bombers down low, returning to base, and figure I can ruin someone's day before I RTB myself and log off. So I dive, go below them, line up to shoot them on the way up... pull the trigger... nothing. !!!?!?!?! try again, nothing. I break off the attack and RTB.

On my way back, I noticed that the little markers above my ammo counters are all black, no white segments, as if my engine was off. My ammo is full, I can see the bars are solid, I didn't fire a single shot all flight. I didn't take any damage or do anything unusual. But my guns were disabled. I tried pressing the trigger more, I could definitely hear the *click* each time, again as if the engine was off (it obviously wasn't I was still flying). I was so busy checking this I missed the MiG-3 following me (doh).

Anyway, what could have cause this? Is there a random chance of total gun failure somewhere? Is there a button I could have accidentally pressed to disable the guns? This is going to make me really paranoid now...

Its a bug with the game m8.

It happens in multiplayer a lot also.

In multiplayer you have to re-spawn to sort it :)

Generally look at the ammo counters to see if something is off before taking off. Had the same thing after a 30+ minute patrol attacking an A-20. Picture perfect attack too.

Yes, and in a quite correct game, we souldn't have that sort of bug.

Yes, this was on WoL. That's... quite a bad bug.

OK this is reassuring. So if it happens, it happens when you spawn, not mid-flight? What about planes without ammo counters?

Sometime just respawning doesn't help, so deselect your ammo, then reselect it. That usually fixes it for me.

Yep, pretty notorious in our squadron.... seems to happen mostly in Wings of Liberty server. Just happened to us tonight

I wonder if somehow the bug involves the startup process and for some reason the guns don't get charged? Or the ammo just isn't loaded. The devs surely know more about where the potential failure points are but they may not have had time to try and figure out the bug.

I'd love to know if we can somehow track how this happens and send them the reports. Would a track file recording do it? How much of the flight would they need? Etc.

They could make one themselves mate.
As it happens soo often (like every 3-5th spawn in every german fighter or even the DUCK had it happen now)

So they would only have to play on wings for 1 mission and they will get it..
Such a Major game breaking bug imho should mean the Entire 20 people on 777 Team get pulled off all other duties (those who can code/fix code/bugs)
and try to fix it (even if that means all other content creation is stopped for 2 weeks)

Whole team working 5-8 hours per day 5-6days per week and bug be fixed in 1 week
?

Edit: IMHO that how bug fixing should be period (atleast 1 week a month where entire team who knows how works on BUGS only 9-5.)

Before going into the mission did you verify the ammunition load of you plane? It is easy to select empty in place of another ammo load. :salute:

Had it happen yesterday on La5. I noticed that a different button still worked though, just my primary trigger did not.

What trigger stopped working for you guys? For me it was button joystick button 0.0.

thats a different bug maybe related to you..

the bug for the German fighters is not guns not working its a complete LACK of ammo in the plane.
All ammo counters show Zero ammo and its like not loading the guns.

Also the bug in question while some VVS flyer have claimed its effected a yak or Lagg there has been no proof posted.
so i think many are trolling to make the bug repair harder and keep LW at a disadvantage longer due to a bug.

I and my buddy had this bug in first 109 sortie (WOL server) , I checked - guns were loaded on menu and in cockpit but when I was pressing fire button there were no trigger animation no click sound.

I usually don't touch that because there's nothing to select ammo wise on a 109. I had already flown a mission and the setup screen remembers my defaults (e.g. glass headrest) so I just clicked through to start.

I should know this but I can't remember. Do the ammo bars on the 109 return to full when it's empty? Because that's what was most weird to me. The bars were full, only the indicators at the top of each bar were blank (the ones that look like little radioactive warning logos for lack of a better description).

It's weird that everybody knows about this bug but I couldn't find another thread on it.

I know what to look out for now though, thanks :salute:

To be honest, it's appalling this of all bugs hasn't yet been fixed.

This is a critical bug and it's been a long time now, through different updates as well. Happens to a tremendous amount of people on multiplayer, but having said that, multiplayer has generally been in a state of disrepair for quite some time.

I had the same problem, but when i fire only the cannon without the mg it works

Posted (edited)

This now is getting on my nerves. I was diving on a guy unaware of me and when I get close guns didnt fire. All the ammo bars were at full.

@Uranium45 Thanks. I will try that as temorary solution though I like to use all my guns at once.

Its not only BF109. Happened to me in the SpitV tonite..Just when I had that 190 on the sight. I was so upset that the whole evening I was performing bad. Bloody bug. I found out that All guns fire key is bugge and doesnt work always. If you want to fire all guns at once you need to designate the same key (trigger on joystick on example) twice. Once for Fire weapon group 1 and again to Fire weapon group 2. Then it works.

See this thread for temporary fix

As a new flier I ran into this bug recently and found this thread before I found the above fix so for anyone that finds this post before the fix see the embeded thread for the fix. It works.  Thanks to LukeFF for the fix.

Thanks for confirming this works. 🙂

Just to chime in, this also fixed this specific problem for me, too.

Also, and almost more important for me, it also fixed an issue with my BF109 wingmates also not having ammunition after a while in career mode (BoS, around 33% progress). With me being flight lead, my wingmates would try to engage an enemy but would not fire their weapons at all. After inserting the files into the stated location above this issue seemingly went away, too

Big thanks!

I'm having this issue of guns not firing in the Bf-109 F-4.  The F-2 is working just fine, but no matter what I do, the F-4 doesn't fire even though rounds are loaded, the guns are on, and the gun switch activated to both systems.  I am also noticing that the AI appears to have the same issue as they are not firing their guns when in the ideal firing solutions.

Unfortunately, this did not work.  The Bf-109 F-4 guns will fire in Quick Mission, but not in the Career mode -- at least not in the Battle of Moscow phase.

I did download the zip file you referenced, and I also enabled the mods option and restarted the game to ensure it was working (got the message advising of only being able to use online groups that allow mods).

I also copied and pasted the three files in the zip file to the path you specified, which to confirm is the IL-2 Great Battles folder, then creating a series of sub folders named: data/scg/scripts

Again, this was in the main IL-2 Great Battles folder.  Tried to fly the Bf-109 F-4 in the career and again no guns fired.

Any other thoughts, or ideas?

Thanks!

It is not clear in your post where you pasted the files. So just to clarify.

The files should go in the folder you created named "scripts".

Folder structure is as follows.

IL-2 Great Battles main folder/date/scg/scripts <-files in here.

Have a fine flying day. :fly:

I am sure you made a typo when you wrote "date" vice "data" as the first of the three sub folders in the main IL-2 Great Battles folder.

I followed the suggested folder path and setup.  Yes, the three files went into the scripts folder.  Again, unfortunately without success.  So far, only the Bf-109 F-4 is having the issue.  I haven't flow every airplane in the career campaigns however, so perhaps there are other aircraft with this bug.  The issue for the campaign career I'm currently flying (Battle of Moscow for the Luftwaffe) my squadron is starting to get more F-4 types than F-2.  So, if this doesn't get fixed soon (or before the G model appears) then I'll have to end the campaign prematurely.

Honestly, with the company working the next iteration for Korea, it seems like this is a major bug issue that has been reported about two years ago.  This really should have been fixed already by the company.

Sorry for any confusion caused.  What I reported last night was and remains accurate.  However, there is a critical step in the mod/patch process that needs emphasizing.  I restarted the game twice before testing out the zip file modification.  However, I did NOT restart my PC.  That omission seems to have prevented the files from taking proper effect in the game.

Tonight, I went back into the game and played a mission in the Career mode for Battle of Moscow and the guns on the Bf-109 F-4 worked just fine.  I then played multiple additional missions in the F-4 and the guns worked each time.

So, in addition to the steps of downloading the zip file, unzipping it to obtain the three files, and then creating these sub folders in your main IL-2 Main Battles folder (/data/scg/scripts) and putting the three files in the scripts folder, you also need to restart your computer.  However, before taking the steps on installing the zip files, you do need to select "Enable Mods" within the game and restart to game to make that change effective.  You should then on the restart of the game see the message that mods have been enabled, and you can only play games with online groups that allow mods in their games.

Appreciate the help.  Wish the actual company would have gotten onboard fixing this with a patch.

I have the same problem and it's really annoying! Whenever I play a career the guns sometimes work yes and sometimes no. The ammunition display is always full.

It's being investigated for a more permanent fix, hopefully for the next update.
