Do losses effect the available planes for a flight / possible to win a campaign?

If a side sustains heavy losses for many of it's flights, does PWCG prevent them from taking off and is there a win state based on one side being unable to defend itself?

Yes, PWCG prevents them from taking off, just as it prevents your squadron from taking off, if it had too many losses in pilots and/or aircrafts, until the depot can fill up again.

But remember, the air forces don't win battles, they are just supporting the ground troops, to win them. So if the enemy side is unable to take off, your ground troops will have a big advantage, but it is not neccessarily the win of the battle, like you can see in the vietnam war. Here in game you don't have the influence on the ground war, because this aspect is not simulated. The other flights, attacking ground troops are more for the 'entertainment' of the player, that he sees, there is something more going on, not just him, his flight and his enemies. But the influence on the ground war is too small to win the battle, plus the system of unit one loses some vehicles, like it is with the air forces, does not exist, and would defintely be too much work for the effort it would have. So you can destroy 100 enemy tanks in a sortie, but the next day there will be another 100 tanks and so on.

But indeed, you might see less enemy aircrafts, when you were too effective in fighting them.?

PS. You can't really win the battle, as, like IRL, the losses will be replaced, it just needs some time.

@runsilent additionally you might want to check the 'Inteligence Report' and the 'Equipment Depot Report' of your campaign, to see what pilots and aircrafts the squadrons, that take part in your campaign currently have available and what aircrafts the two sides have stored in their depots. You can see getting them 'thinner' over time.
