FTC_ChilliBalls Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 this is really awesome, I really hope you´ll find the time to continue this! Though I´m assuming it´s impossible to fly with this online?
SJ_Butcher Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Cant wait for this to be a standard in all planes, it's a shame that we still don't have 4k textures resolution
TheSNAFU Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 I’m assuming the mod does not currently include 109’s. Is that right?
Thad Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Your assumption, after obviously reading the mods forum posts, is correct and indicates that Bf109s cockpits have not been updated to 4k yet. ?
TheSNAFU Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 (edited) Many thanks for your helpful response! Edited December 30, 2018 by TheSNAFU
LizLemon Posted December 31, 2018 Author Posted December 31, 2018 The 109 pits are the biggest pain in the ___ because; 1. the weathering is way overdone and doesnt make sense in a lot of places and 2. pretty much every 109 sans the E uses the same cockpit texture. Making a new 109 pit consists of creating a clean mostly wear free texture, which I am doing now. Then once that is done applying wear to that texture in different patterns for all the subtypes of 109. 1 10
TheSNAFU Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 (edited) Thanks LizLemon I appreciate your update on the 109 and more so the cockpit improvements you’re making. Great work indeed! Edited December 31, 2018 by TheSNAFU
SJ_Butcher Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 (edited) I have found that always IL2 game cockpits looks bad and should be where most of the effort should be put, you spent the entire flytime looking at cockpit and not enjoying the look is a big bummer for me, men I even can't read the controls right without zoom in it... Well, sorry man, but if you can't read the controls and instruments in the cockpit without zoom in, then you might have a serious problem with your eyes or - and I really hope that for you - your resolution setup is completely wrong. I mean, see my system specs in my signature and I wear reading glasses, but still I can read my instruments perfectly without zoom in. I think you FOV might be too wide too. 2 1

Or, as is the case for me, he has a small monitor. 23in just isn´t enough too see anything honestly. Anyway, love what you are doing here LizLemon, can´t wait for the 109 in 4K. BTW, since the G14 came out these black "holes" on the struts just bother me to death, would it be possible to also edit the normal map texture? Edited January 12, 2019 by So_ein_Feuerball

FTC_ChilliBalls Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Hey LizLemon, is there any news regarding the 109 cockpit? Not that I want to hurry you in any way, it would just be nice to hear if there´s been progress since you wrote last time 1

Also, a quick question: which file do the F and G series (G 6 and 14 excluded, they do have their own file) use for cockpit instruments? Edited February 27, 2019 by Picchio
Jade_Monkey Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 Any updates? I really like all the work done so far. After jumping into DCS WWII i'm craving some higher res cockpits in IL2, I really hope this can some day be incorporated to the base game, the same way ICDP and other skin makers are contributing with their 4K skins. 2
Boomerang Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 4k CP's, on the wish list of wish lists and /or the *.psd's at some point, just like what we have with for the exteriors would be great! Q: How do mods like this fair with a new game updates? Are files over written?

I was aiming for a dirtier overall look and I also had the (vain) ambition of painting every texture from scratch, but I gave up on it for the moment. In this version I kept some of the new textures I made for the front dash and a few hood frame elements. I'd like to share the humble result here, I hope you don't mind! I.JG3_CDRSEABEE Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 Are the 4k skins and cockpits noticeable in VR?

LizLemon Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 17 hours ago, Picchio said: Good Jesus, how did you do that? And... does it also work consistently? A scaling neural net like sftgan/esrgan/waifu2x but trained with video game textures. The end goal is something that can batch process an entire games textures after the right parameters have been chosen for that texture set; stuff like art style(photoish, animated, hyperreal), noise reduction, sharpening, ect. You can see that it does a better job with some things than others. That is because I used the same parameters for all of them. Textures that have different artstyles or are a mix of very different materials trip it up right now. For example in BOX I can get very good results with the 190 cockpit on everything but the leather, or good results with the leather and iffy results on everything else. Because of that most cockpit textures will have to be run with at least two passes, and then the best of each will be combined in photoshop by hand. But for other stuff like buildings the same settings work pretty much across the board. Note that in this example noise reduction and sharpening were a bit too low. But it still worked pretty well. https://i.imgur.com/rl1lf5N.png [/img] 1 1
Picchio Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I'm impressed by the level of cleanliness you achieved for the numbers and letters! How are you handling Alpha textures?
von_Michelstamm Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 for the 109, i'd settle for just a fix for that ugly, lo rez looking headrest. Seems lower quality than anything else in the pit.

Tapi Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 THX for sharing. Just a question: should I rename your bf109f4_c.DDS and/or bf109f4_c_1.DDS? In the Bf109F4 folder I have already these files: bf109f4_1.DDS, bf109f4_B.DDS and bf109f4_d.DDS Which one is used by the game and what logic is behind the different names of DDS for each plane?
Picchio Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) You shouldn't rename anything, just copy-paste the folder structure. The files you have in your folder belong to other modifications you have installed (a default texture, a normal map, and a damage texture map). The ones that are present here are read and used by the game as long as Mods-on is active. Each filename uses a suffix and a number that matches a specific part (skin, cockpit, glass, prop blur, damage etc.) but the numbering sequence isn't always the same. You can easily take a look into the .gtp archives and see for yourself. As you see I had deleted my post. I will reupload the files later, I must check a few things. Edited August 16, 2019 by Picchio

FTC_ChilliBalls Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 (edited) @LizLemon Just out of curiosity, how much work is it to upscale these textures? Is it more a question of computing time needed to complete since the algorythm handles the work, or is more manual input required? Edited August 19, 2019 by So_ein_Feuerball
