Amusing & Unusual Career End

I got hit by ground fire on a hairy bombing mission in my trusty I-16. I was wounded and my engine was hit, so I flew for the lines.  The engine was still producing power so I turned for home.... with an escort.  I couldn't tell what they were, but I assumed they were unfriendly.  En route I got a low fuel warning.

 

As I setup for my landing approach, a -110 goes roaring by, then his wingman.  I got on the ground safely, and here comes one of the 110s again from my 4 o'clock on a strafing run as the "Landing Successful" message flashed.  I don't think he hit me, but he failed to pull out of his dive.  His ramming attack missed me as well, hitting the ground past my airplane by a couple wingspans.  As he hit the ground I died.  My airplane looked intact as the camera pulled back, so I assume my pilot was hit by flying debris.

Yikes, that is a tough one to swallow!

 

Yeah I have had my career ended on more than one occasion by getting hit by the enemy as I was on approach to land. Not fun.

Man's life during war is so fragile. I died many times in my carriers and i had to start again. But playing ironman/hardcore mode is completely different, far more engaging than save/load.

This happens very often on airfields.

I have seen this least 5 times on career mode.

 

AI is bad and not going to list faults here since i hope developers know most of them.

Huh, I had never seen it before, but I generally attempt to discourage creepy stalkers from following me home, and I have never attempted to land while under attack.

I experienced this AI behaviour, too, quite some times, flying for the other side. Migs or Yaks chasing me to my airfield. A few times I didn't even see them before they attacked. But apart from hitting my aircraft a few times, they never did a lot of damage, just a crater in the runway.

I've seen that at least 50 times in multiplayer.

While it looks at first glance that AI is stupid, it is in fact reproducing surprisingly well how a lot of humans are flying in MP.

 

Maybe we don't know it yet and it is so advance that it using deep learning from multiplayer server data. And devs have lost control on it

In servers like TAW, Finnish, Coconut Expert, even WoL i fly i.e. LaGG-3 with open canopy to avoit being killed

Similar in SP career.

Just after I have landed my MiG, a group of Bfs started to attack our airfield.
I taxied and stopped right beside an hangar, it looked safe there.
I fly in VR, and instead of ending the mission right away, I thought of watching the "show" just a little longer. The dogfights, the artillery trying to catch the enemies, it all looked very entertaining.
It had past a few minutes when I turned my head to the left to follow an ongoing fight, and then, zip, zap, bang, boom..I floated. A Messer had past and had left his sayings.
That flight was one of my best, I had shot down 3 Bfs. I got overconfident and died.
I learned a lesson.
But it was fun.

Yea, was landing myself. Didn`t realise I had 2 109s tailing me. One 109 strafed flew over and away and other decided to go up and dive as if dogfighting me and that was the end of it. AI`s not too great on avoiding Earth.
