Hi, I ask because if not, I will purchase PS and make an attempt.

If one is, please let me know so I'm not wasting cash on something I wouldn't otherwise use.

Cheers

As far as I know, no one has started the job.

Well if you think you can make the template in less than 30 days you don't need to buy PS right away : the free evaluation version is waiting for you !

Thanks Zargos - may I approach you now and then for advice if I start this?

Each to their own but for me, one good template saves moocho buggering about with normal maps from differing sources.

@ICDP, if you are starting the 7b may I ask if you are also taking a look at the 1s69? There is a 4K out I know but it appears to be something of a composite made up from your 1bs127. I'm no expert but the metal tail and stabs from the 777 2K isn't replicated and the rivets from the 1b (the oblong rounded pattern) seem to have replaced the squarer pattern.

If your want any help with any donkey work (like any repetitive, unskilled stuff) id be happy to assist.

Yeah but it also makes you go to sleep with a smile on yer face when you've done one though, dunnit? I aint done any from scratch for ages so this seems like a good place to start (again)... you never know til you give it a go! ;)

You may even be surprised, I emphasise the 'may'!!

The story so far, rife with procrastination about rivetting and such...

Id never dream of stopping anyone - the more choice at least gives options for mixing and matching. The ONLY LITTLE issue comes when you see a skin you like on a template you don't like as much. First world problems easily sorted with OvGME :-) (if you can live with the template choice).

The thing is, if someone is doing a Template and 'puts it out' then fair play to em. If it comes out before I've finished this one then I may just down tools and use that one. Then again I may not and just use mine when It's finished. I aint that bothered about kudos and suchlike. I compliment people on things that are good (yourself included) and, if I feel it needs it and could be taken in good faith, can be constructive and polite about things that I think may have been overlooked or could possibly enhance stuff. I DO like skinning (in a sort of substitute for painting airfix models from days gone by kind of way (and you can fly 'em and shoot at things with 'em!) and I DO like covering the whole aspect(s) of the process instead of just painting over someone else's hard worked template. I am one of the ones incidentally who ALWAYS thanks the Template artist on any skin that I post up, unlike a lot of people who, probably quite innocently, neglect to do these little things ( I do NOT include yourself in that bracket, BOO! ;-)).

Anyway, must get on, I got a ton of things to do. Some good, some tedious but all needing doing!!

Take care

Yak1s69 4K template and normalmap by Pluton.  I sure wish someone would pin this.

YUP!! - I got my original statement about this template totally wrong and now corrected. There is nothing wrong with it apart from it doesn't match the Yak7b which I was stupidly looking at in the viewer thinking it was a Yak1!!

Apologies to @Pluton for my lack of attention and general f-wittedness. .

I asked for this to be pinned a time back when the 4K mods were being done by reporting the post to admin as in need of attention.

JW has asked for anyone with a template to PM him directly so it can be included in the official link.

ALSO -YUP!! - Crack on son!! - id got to about the same stage with the lines before realizing the Germans clearly had future skinners interests more in mind and kindly avoided curvy lines wherever possible in addition to making their fighters small enough to better fit on a square map. Great foresight and one not credited enough by history I feel. :-)

My point of stopping is that I'm terribly unimaginative once I'm set on sommat. Since I prefer the ICDP "touch" personally my work would only emulate his (but in the kinda way "raaid" emulates Picasso :-/)

The point about skinners not crediting.....110% agree. Id go further and say the website doesn't help in that 2 pinned threads for each template and skins (Ie TEMPLATE BY being all about the template and its development with the latest version pinned to the first post and SKINS USING...) from them would really clear things up but then that's for the community to get its act together on also.

Anyhow back to beating myself up for wronging dissing Pluton.

Er....HS129 anyone?

I may be shocking some people, but I find that the Pluton template is not great.
That's why I reiterate my request.

Ha! Ha! I like yer style! Something I hadn't actually thought of... the clever and devious swines (a-la Cpt Mainwairing)!! Lines aint really THAT much of a problem though, are they? You just draw em on with path selection and then apply the brush. I actually really like that bit. At least there's no need to do dmg files which I DO find incredibly tedious, like doing it ALL over again...:(

I thanked him/her for the template when I used it. Credit where credit is due for the hard work. There wasn't any other template around to do the skin I wanted to do at the time (and I didn't really have any comparison chart in my head, not having been 'in the fold' for long) and I couldn't really be arsed to re-educate myself of the non-dds methodology, a thing I am addressing at this very moment in time!

I understand that you want everyone's work to be credited. This is also my case.

I obviously have nothing against Pluton and I do not want to offend him.
I'm just saying that I think that his template
is not at the same skill as those made by ICDP or some other guys.

No problem guys, feel free to enhance my yak1 template if you want. I don’t realy care about being credited on that job, i just wanted to give my two cents in the sim, and i probably did some mistakes. Anyway, i have a lot of work IRL and can’t spend more time on it.

By the way, some decals are still missing on the wing and fuselage, I never found good sources on it.

Have fun on it !

Kudos Pluton. Template and even skins are bitches when you get into the weeds of em. Thank you for putting the time into the 4K.

I have the Yak-7b 4K template and alpha finished and will start working on the bumpamp.  The attached images were taken with a totally flat bumpmap.
