I didn't know the difference till this day. :) And in the Soviet/Russian military historical books it's always written as Голландия (Holland)

Hi BlackSix,

I live in Belgium. It is important to understand that there were and are three languages spoken in the country. French to the South, Dutch in the North and German in a little area to the East. The naming of towns should be according to the language spoken in the region in question.

For example, in the lower left corner of the map you have a town called, in French, Mons. This is the correct name to use since the town is placed in the French-speaking part of Belgium. In Dutch the same town is called Bergen. The two words mean the same, namely "Mountains".

I am very glad to see that the map you show in the update has the names correctly: in Dutch in the northern part, in French in the Southern part and in German in the small area to the East.

Just make sure you stay on top of this rather confusing situation.

Here is a list of municipality names in the three languages (Wallonia is the French-speaking region and includes the small German-speaking part, Vlaanderen is the Dutch-speaking region):

https://www.lexilogos.com/belgique_communes.htm

BTW, Belgium has some quite spectacular mountains and gorges in the Ardennes region. I really look forward to flying through them!

I think by the time they switched to the Mustang IV with the bubble top they had switched to operations over Norway, having moved back to Britain in late '44.

Yeah, I think you're right. They were flying escort for Mossies at that time, I believe.

I can't wait to start dropping 1000 pounders on German convoys...that's going to be epic.

Coming in low and strafing German airfields, troops, and truck convoys in a P-47! Oh damn...I think I'm salivating. Is that normal?

Reminds me of a stock P-47 airfield attack mission in Jane's WW II Fighters called "Wake-up Call." Absolutely loved that one.

One of my all time favorite flight sims. Flew it for years. Got it the day it day it came out. Janes made all of my favorite games at that time.

Li-2 is planned, and Jason already addressed this comment on the previous page with: 'not necessarily'.

Indeed, its a matter of time and resources. I don't necessarily envy Jason's position, we can just dream, but he and the team has to make the choices :).

Isn't the Li-2 a 3rd party effort?

The thing that this person does forget so easily is that before the war, yes there was a movement (minority) in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium that asked for equal rights but no real response to this. All Belgium was still Under French speaking administration. And to make it easier to play all places names should be in English… so everyone is unhappy in Belgium how is full of stupid people. You have set foot into a hornet nest if you begin to name towns/cities following the artificial frontiers of politics.

IL2 is an AIR battle game and in the air only the twitter of birds can be listen to or the roar of the engines of the warplanes.

Also let us not forget that in those times the languages adopted where those of the soldiers occupying the country at the moment.

Have a nice day trying to understand this! :salute:

Regarding possible 3rd Party mods.

Are there plans to extend the existing models with in game Options or really with new models?

For examble a Fw-190 F8/G8 is avaliable in the carreer für BOBP as mentioned by the devs?

A cooperation between 1C and a third party, does it make a difference?

Yup, you just bounce that nice and juicy P-47 so that I will bounce you in my P-51. Low flying Dora needs some browning love :)

How is everyone unhappy and full of stupid people in Begium? All borders are artificial if you follow that logic, borders are political.. Yes it's a flight sim but people get excited when they get to fly in the area they grew up in and still living in; stop trying to appear as white knight all of the sudden. And no the occupied countries did not switch to german once they surrendered, the only people speaking it were the soldiers themselves, towns and cities weren't renamed.  Also comment was addressed at black six, are you his spokesperson?

But the Li-2 is already planned, which is a license built version of the DC3

We don't know which Li-2 version we will get yet (there are at least 13 different versions)... there are differences from the standard DC3... for instance, we may get a bomber, or the version with a large upper turret.

Anyway, Jason confirmed to me that there is no Dakota, Stirling or gliders for Market Garden battle phase.

Li-2 is a third party effort I believe... but that doesn't guarantee we will get it.

That aircraft and the Po-2 have to pass the developers approval, so it's not definite.

I hope you're kidding. The 1915 reference concerned the fact that back then, pilots were still going out on patrols alone. Not in P-47's.

To be honest, that FW190D of yours doesn't scare me at all. In DCS I shoot them down consistantly. It's that 109K that's a royal pain in the ass! We'll see how that works out in here. We have some very interesting and fun flight simming coming our way.

Me-262 A-1a and A-2a, FW-190A-8 / F8 and may be more (L.F and F or clipped wing for Mark.IX). This approach begins to be really interesting.

Is there any kind of stated ballpark for the various stages of release for Bodenplatte, similar to what there was for Kuban?

The virtual cojones are strong on this website.

Informative DD all the same. (Im)patiently waiting for the USAAF big three. I am not getting any younger here people. ;)

Not seen anything yet, but I'm keeping my eyes open. My gut feeling is that as 1C/777 have so much on their plate with the various announced projects (Bodenplatte, Tank Crew, Flying Circus, collaborative release of collector a/c), and as the end release for Kuban slipped just a little (still well within expectations though) they are probably being a little cautious about announcing any form of time-frame further than they know that they can reasonably hit.

I bought the last 1/72 scale target-towing Stirling from Sprue Brothers not so long ago (I had some parts my grand dad pulled from a crashed one), but yeah, cannot imagine we'll see that in-game. I hope they're third party endeavors pull it off, I have digits crossed for that, helps spread development in theory and we know how they can help. Done wrong though...

Looking forward to driving a tank around the Nurburgring :P

In all seriousness though, that's going to be one amazing map. Can't wait for it.

Regarding languages in Belgium, I remember the first time I was driving from Spa to Ypres and then when I got to within 30km all the signs stopped showing Ypres. I had no idea I should have been following the ones to Ieper instead...

So I came across another question. Jason sain the the planes will go Beta this weekend, but on the website there is no Beta mentioned anywhere. I have preordered, so I have early access. is that the same as beta or if not how to get beta

All our beta-tests are internal, you'll get official update with these new planes

March '45. Nice, so we will definitely be seeing 150 octane fuel on the Spit IX, Tempest V, P-38, P-47 and P-51.

It depends how historically accurate the devs wish to be, the 9th AF never used 150 octane.

1. There were 8th AF planes involved in the Operation Bodenplattte attack (352nd FG, Asch).

2. There were 8th AF planes involved in anteceent (Operation Market Garden, Battle of the Scheldt) and subsequent operations (Operation Clarion) as quoted in the news post.

3. Your argument isn't even invalid, it doesn't exist.
