Yes, they usually bounce you out of the sun when you are at a critical moment. I have a pause button mapped to my throttle just for this reason!

What do I need to do to finish the first mission. I take off, hit 800 meters

altitude, stay behind my flight leader, land somewhat successfully and turn the engine off. I get credit for completion of secondary objective, but not primary. What am I missing?

Hello! I just started playing through the Campaign, I like it a lot so far!

Here is a video I made, planning to follow it up with the rest of the missions if I have time ?

This was the first scripted campaign I ever completed. Thanks BlackSix, it is a great campaign, well scripted, with some variety and substance. I just love the IL-2; I really enjoy ground attack planes. There is a Hs-129 scripted campaign that I haven't tried yet (Panzerknacker). May be I will look at it after I'm done with my Macchi 202 Career mode campaign.

Mission 9 ghosts

Ive flown it several times now.  Almost everybflight Ive gotten almost all secondary ibjectives. I average 4 or 5 vehicles.  Land safely at Gelend. 1.  Yet primary mission isnt accomplished. Whats the primary!? Does abyone have a save so I can skip mission 9? I even stopped bombing vebicles on road and only hitting the stationary vehicles in the town and also strafed n destroyed a Mg34 flak mount.  Still failed!

Ok, I rechecked it in the user version and there is no any problems. Mission main goal: landing in the Gelendzhik-1 airfield.

So, If you can't complete this mission you've two options:

1) Use autopilot. I've successfully completed this missioan right now using this option from the start of the mission till the land on Gelendzhik-1

Spoiler

2020_2_29__8_27_27.thumb.jpg.5a6ad186b48ffed56c6e4751f79677de.jpg

2) You can take-off then land on Gelendzhik-1 and wait about 5-7 minutes using x8 times until you'll see yellow title 'Mission completed".

Just finished this campaign by BlackSix and it's excellent!

Every mission was enjoyable, with a terrific use of the Kuban map and great mission descriptions that fill out your pilot's story.

I made it home from the final mission with at least 90 bullet-holes and an injured gunner but at least I got back. Mission 7 was the hardest for me; I had to repeat it several times. First attempt - blown to bits by flak I hadn't seen. 2nd attempt - shot down by the same flak while I was looking for it. 3rd attempt - hit a tree while trying to avoid the flak. 4th attempt - shot down by the flak while trying to take it out. Etc, etc. I think there were a few more attempts before I got through that one, but most of the missions I was able to accomplish first go.

The AI Sturmoviks are quite reliable and get on with the job, but the dynamic changes slightly when you get to lead a flight. They don't always do exactly what you want, especially when your pilot gives them orders and you didn't. (Note to Devs - the pilot communications and commands need an update as soon as possible.)

There is a lot of action going on in the missions, not all of it close to your aircraft, but I didn't have any problems with FPS or anything else. Each mission was atmospheric because of it, you aren't just flying in your own bubble.

All in all, absolutely terrific. :salute:

If you like the Il-2 then get on and fly it.

If you've never tried the Il-2 then get on and try it - she's a stable old bird without many vices, so you'll be able to enjoy the campaign even if you're a noob with her.

Verdict: highly recommended, BlackSix's best so far.

Cheers.

Thanks for checking. Ok now Im thoroufhly confused. Theres 2x I DEFINITELY destroyed several ground targets and landed at G 1. However I did note no mission accomplished msg.   Did I exit too soon???  Odd. I didnt quit as soon as the wheels hit ground.

After action had secondary 1, 2 3 and 4 no primary.  2 other attempts flak got me.

Ok well your post got me off my ass and starting trackir because I really wanted to continue this excellent campaign.

You did a fantastic job- I mean really I never even had interest in playing the sturmovik. Ive even messed around with the damned thing in career mod because this campaign.

Yes it comes with  BOK.   Dude its a really good campaign . A lot of fun seriously

Also Havoc Over the Kuban is a ball

Oh and BlackSix -  fly auto pilot on those beautiful hand crafted missions are you insane man??? What a sin!

Yes I guess if you quit before mission accomplished flashes the game doesnt care if you bombed landed and stopped.

Got a pitiful number like 2 trucks.  Almost got knocked down by the flak battery near the town - several fist sized holes in both wings, right wing rods broke had to lean left the entire way home.

Attacked by a fighter over the bay. 2nd gunner shot out from under me. Made it home otherwise.

?

worried no ones going to gun for me

I finished this recently and can recommend.  I was my first ground pounding campaign and helped me learn a new skill set.  I racked up a large number of ground kills, mostly artillery, and also got pretty good at taking out AA.  I found that vehicles were more trouble than they were worth, particularly armor, probably because I can't seem to master bombing, getting my best results dropping over lines of artillery.  Minor quibble - some of the flights were quite long.   And I was disappointed that enemy fighters for the most part never engaged my squadron.  My gunner had one air kill, as did I when I caught a 109 coming off the runway.

I've really been enjoying the campaign as a way to dive into the game for the first time.  I love flying in formation and attacking as a group. However, when I became flight lead I just can't seem to convince the flight to stick with me and attack our targets. After take off the flight seems reluctant to fly any faster than 250 kph even though the route is briefed at 330 kph. I circle back to get them, they form up on me, then I slowly accelerate to our briefed speed. They just fall behind again and again.  I'm at 1850 rpm and low throttle, not pushing things at all.  Is there some command I should issue to help this?  Also they seem reluctant to attack ground targets once we arrive.  I'm not sure if this is specific to these missions or just a feature of the overall game.

Thanks!

Been playing this campaign the last couple of days, up to mission 10 at the moment, first scripted campaign i have tried, enjoying it that much (even all the times i have had to restart after going face first into the trees when trying to do a bombing/strafing run)  it made me go and buy Ten Days of Autumn, Havoc Over The Kuban, Achtung Spitfire!, Ice Ring & Hell Hawks Over the Bulge, hopefully i enjoy all those as much as i have this which i'm sure i will, cheers.

Absolutely love this campaign... didn't realize I'd love it so much!  I appreciate the short distances between targets too (although it makes me wish we could take less fuel).

A couple bugs though... in at least missions 6 and 7 (possibly more, but these are the ones where I particularly noticed them), the rest of my flight squadron would fly at about 300m, regardless of how high I would fly, and how many times I'd tell them to get into a different formation with me, every time they would run into the mountain around 1320.5, all because they refuse to climb.

Also in mission #10, one of my wingmen (IL-2 01-07) who is in formation with me, will not bring his landing gear up....

Or is this a new feature I didn't know about, as these are supposed to be rookies that I'm flying with in this mission?!  That could be cool....

Also in this same mision #10, the LaGGs that were escorting us, turned around after just a few minutes to what appears to be towards homebase, less than 50km away, at waypoint #3

Regarding the amount of fuel - then it was always customary to fill up full tanks, because in the event of plane damage and fuel leakage with incompletely filled tanks, you would have much more problems.  Although I may have to reduce the amount of fuel so that the planes can fly over the mountains in missions 6-8

Unfortunately this campaign has never been updated since its release. It is very outdated and may not work correctly in some places. I hope to get permission and time for a complete overhaul next year.

Makes sense.

As far as reducing the amount of fuel so that planes can fly over the mountains, I don't think that's the reason why they were crashing into it, as there was a later mission with the same loadout but the planes would follow me up to whatever altitude I climbed to without issue.

Just read the campaign was never updated, that explains my difficulties finding the 'start' position for the flaps that is still mentioneded in the plane's specifications and is visible by markings on the wing's. But I had a look in the games manual and there it's been explained that there's none.

First time I played the IL-2 in combat in BoX and after I've learnt to keep the RPMs under 2100 after the start and the coolings open, everything runs well so far.

Nice aircraft! I like the small bomb bays, I guess that's quite unique for a single engine plane.

The Il-2 M43 has a takeoff flaps position - it's engaged by pressing and holding the Flaps Down key momentarily.

Thanks, I tried out everything. IIRC even what you just mentioned but apparently not right.

And maybe I've read the manual of an other IL-2 model then where it's stated there's ony one down position for the flaps.

Wasn't aware I'm flyimg the '43 model at all. I've only heard from the field modification for the Il-2 where's a gunner behind the pilot. I have no clue of such things,

Sea Dragon was one of the first, if not the first scripted campaign I completed a year and a half ago. I performed poorly (in terms of targets destroyed) but truly enjoyed the campaign, although some missions are repetitive. I decided to replay it recently and just completed it tonight. Did much better, but nothing to write home about I guess. At least I was only shot down 3 times I think, lol... AAA is deadly, you want to avoid it as much as possible. I was pleased to see that my accuracy with rockets and bombs had improved from 18 months ago. But my favorite weapon was the VYA-23, what a beast. I destroyed 4 light boats with it and quite a few cannons

You will note that I destroyed 29 cannons overall. 4 of them were naval cannons, but 3 of those were mounted on boats that I eventually sunk. Double kills ?? You will also note that my IL-2 shot down 3 light planes, all of them 109's. The credit goes to my rear gunner for 2 of them, but I was lucky enough to shoot one down with a short burst when it passed right in front of me from right to left. What a feeling !

A great campaign indeed @BlackSix

Kudos

A lot of tension and adrenaline, weapon selection is just right and the narrative is immersing. Sometimes RTB is long and uneventful, and you circle around your airfield a while before being authorized to land, but those are minor annoyances.

I just wished career mode would allow us to engage naval targets. Nada... Not implemented

It is now time to play Ice Ring

Just finished the campaign

It was great, I loved the intro text, very good and immersive history and the missions were excellent too.

I have been shot down twice and killed only once (during the last mission, I loitered too long above the targhet and was trapped alone by ennemy fighters).

But my plane often landed heavily damaged.

Thank you very much !!!

I am playing Sea Dragons campaign.

I have completed the first five missions, all successfully, and they are very well done, the briefing, the atmosphere, the map ... it all contributes to immersing you in what you are doing. Then, I particularly like it because it reminds me of some of the missions of Kuban Campaign 1943, my first campaign written for the original IL-2 Sturmovik back in 2008 ...

I intend to complete all the missions, because I believe that also the difficulty, so far quite limited, is also growing ...

I wanted to see what solutions had been adopted for certain situations, but I realize that this campaign, although included in the BoK package, is not present in the Campaign folder (or I am not able to find it...) and therefore cannot be examined. I would like to ask BlackSix if it is possible to find the missions and load them into the M.E., or are they hard coded?

Congratulations on the good job and thank you. Stebas.

Hi! Thank you for your feedback!
This campaign is already outdated in terms of the solutions it uses and I'd like to be able to redo and update it but this is not possible yet.
Unfortunately, there is no way to access the files of the official campaigns, this is our policy, sorry.

I have just finished the campaign.

It has been perhaps a little repetitive and not very imaginative, but still linear and pleasant to play.

I'd recommend you to play "Ice Ring" campaign (IL-2 1942 and winter Stalingrad map and it's included in the current sale). It's made much better technically and has more varied tasks. But in general, I'm very limited in terms of the variety of tasks by operation records books of the current unit and I don't want to create missions that historically this unit has not completed.

Major campaign update in version 5.102:

- all aircraft have tactical numbers assigned;

- new aircraft types added (U-2, А-20, Р-39, Yak-7b, С-47А, Bf 109 G-6);

- all missions were updated and re-tested.

Well now, since it's five years (really? where did that go?) since I played this campaign I think that I'll do it again. Thanks for the updates BlackSix ?

With lessons learned in Ice Ring campaign, I managed to finish this one on first try without death. 15 missions, 15 successful landings with no damage, or only with few small caliber bulletholes here and there...maybe with one exception...

Survival was my priority, so my score is average at most.  As wingman, I always followed my flight, and become more initiative only later in second half...

I considered mod43 version of IL-2 as inferior to lighter, more agile one-seater with better rear visibility, but this campaign changed my mind. With gunner set to "return fire only", he had very good trigger discipline and still called out closing fighters. Even with my zero visibility to the back, I felt safer and could spent more time searching for targets instead watching sky. I don't mind less rockets, they are inaccurate anyway. Bombs and cannons are more my thing.

Overall very well crafted campaign. I like both, short, intensive missions behind the hill (literally) and also long hauls to the target area. This campaign has ideal ratio between the two. Old but gold. I want more.  Next time I'll play Havoc over the Kuban. The A-20 is a plane I've never sat in. I am curious about another plane i have no opinion at.

Thanks BlackSix. :good:
