catchthefoxes Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 is there a way to turn the gamma correction down below 0.8? it's looking a little faded and under contrasted. I remember it used to be able to go lower than that.
Thad Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 Salutations, Yes it can be done by manually adjusting it in a game file.

Here you will find different section, so one for the graphics. To adjust you gamma settings just change the number. Lowest default you can set is 0.8 in the game. In the file you can manually go lower - I'v set it to 0.6. I also did a short cut from this file to my desktop, so I can modify the settings without running and restarting the game after each modification. Cheers PS: Just make sure you have a copy of the original file... just in case. Edited April 22, 2018 by EAF_T_Therion 1 1
Thad Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 (edited) Yes... the gamma setting can be set in the 'startup.cfg'. Edited April 22, 2018 by Thad
catchthefoxes Posted April 22, 2018 Author Posted April 22, 2018 @EAF_T_Therion @Thad Thanks!!! it worked!!
Wolf8312 Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 (edited) It works or worked great but now my gamma settings keep resetting to 0.8 every time I load the game up! Anyone know why? Edit think it was because I was setting it below 0.4. Working now or at least now it only sets to 0.5 Edited April 29, 2018 by Wolf8312
Dakpilot Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Chances are, if you have to run such a low gama correction your monitor probably needs calibration. This will give much better overall results Cheers, Dakpilot

That's odd, I can give you my file in the next few days provided nobody else gets on it (if anyone else intends to do it, make sure your username and PW are not included as I believe these are/were stored in plaintext in the file itself!) Here's a snippet of mine. The section you copied should be there, I've highlighted it. But it should be at the end of a lot of other options. Are you sure this is the game directory the game is launching from? I've seen .cfg files like that when the game has never been launched. If that's the case when you launch the game and change some settings in the graphics menu it should populate the file. You may also want to try opening the file using notepad++ as other programs may take issue with the format.
Natives-Soul_Finger Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 I apologize, I thought I deleted the message, I had used the wrong path and when I went to C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data I found it and set the gamma correction to .6 and can now spot planes a hell of a lot better. I haven't play multiplayer because I thought I just be a target drone for young folks with good eyes. I think I'll finally go to multiplayer. Probably still get punked most of the time but maybe not all of the time now;-) Thanks again for trying to help.
