How to Save a Broken Career (automission start failed, mission save error, statsubmitstatfailed)

I had a strange incident I'll recount here.

I had a career I'd carried over from Moscow, into Stalingrad (with the intention of going on to Kuban and Bodenplatte). Towards the end of Stalingrad, I had the option of ending the career and moving on to Kuban, but I decided to transfer to the Ring of Death just for... well, 'fun' might not apply in that instance, but you get my point. I assumed the missions would be endless bomber and ground attack plane intercepts (which I like), but instead it was missions I decidedly do not like. I figured rather than endure the waiting of sending my wingmen on every mission until the campaign ended, I'd just quit, delete the old career file, and copy my backup (which was made the same day) into the proper Sturmovik folder.

I did so, and it caused errors on every career I had. Eventually, after trying various ineffectual fixes, I did the database editing bit and moved the day forward. This worked for a few days, until the error popped up again, and I bypassed it once again. Then I moved on to Kuban, and now everything seems fine.

So on one hand, I'm disappointed that simply backing up my career file wasn't as useful and straightforward as it should be; but I was able to get around it anyway, thanks to this thread.

maybe you've just to open cp file and modify the last date of career file with DB Browser to one day forward. hope this helps

good flights

Does anyone know if this workaround has been closed off now? I'm trying it but to no avail; if I bring the date forward from when I was captured I get a 'Proceed next day Failed' message, and if I move it after I get an 'Autostart mission failed' message. I've followed the instructions in the video and the thread carefully (as well as tried a few other things that look like they might work) but have had no joy.

I note as late as May last year it was working so am wondering if there has been a change since then. Thanks for any help and I appreciate the work already done on this!

EDIT: For anyone else following this I'll outline how I solved my own problem as stated above. In the end I went and adjusted another coupe of things. In the cp.bd file I followed the instructions as outlined above (throwing the date forward a couple of days). When I was getting the errors I noted above I fiddled with another couple of things.

1. In the 'mission' table in the database editor I deleted the missions records flown on the date of my capture.

2. Then in the user save data for the respective career [...IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\swf\il2\usersave\ ... datesourcecache] I deleted the .txt records from the day of capture as well. Needless to say I was backing it up as I went.

Now I'm not a computer guy so it may be that these solutions didn't affect the outcome (or maybe only one was necessary), but the next time I tried to run my campaign it worked. Maybe it will help you if you're having the same problems I was in getting it back up and running. BTW, the first day back my pilot wasn't on the roster so you may have to go a day or two to get put on a mission.

I know this thread is really old, but I just wanted to let players know that I used this program/method that GiftZahnSteigern posted above in order to revive a dead pilot. You just have to adjust some settings in the career, pilot, and mission tables to go back in time before the mission where he was KIA.

A couple of things to add to this, to make things a bit cleaner so that you minimize the chance for bugs later on:

- In addition to the missions table there is a sortie table that has to be edited/cleaned up.

- It also doesn't hurt to set the pilot and career status to 0 in the respective tables.

- There is also a log file called events.txt that should be edited to remove the events related to the specific sortie/date.

If this is the second sortie of the day, it may be safer to wipe the entire day than to try to reset just that one sortie. Having said that I have just managed to save even the mission I accidentally killed myself by judicious editing of the log files and database. It seems to have worked but there is always the chance that some corruption will come back to bite me down the line. Also I work with computer and databases professionally so I definitely recommend the "wipe the whole last day" approach for anyone who isn't comfortable with these topics.

It worked, thanks.

But it's very sad we have to do this when the game meshs it up, and you don't wanna replay a long mission you consider yo did correctly

I wonder what % of users will be able to do this

How to get back after you screwed up your career.......

Step 1:  Please see PAGE 1 of this thread (HOW TO SAVE A BROKEN CAREER ) and follow the steps ( by Talon_) to learn how and what to change within the Database - DB Browser SQLite...etc. And YES, make a copy of the DB file just in case.

Step 2: While you are in the database = Changing the STATE to 0 in CAREER and PILOT. Works wonderfully.

In my case the STATE was set to 2 due to my death on the battlefield. Upon my demise, I incorrectly hit Proceed and not RESTART Mission - me bad. By changing the STATE you will be able to continue on the Carrer with all your history and awards.

Good Flying........

Now if I can figure out how to change my profile picture, I'll be really happy........

Would it work when "Executed for comitting war crimes" as my pilot was?

Thank you so much.

Why in single player career mode this isn't a defacto is beyond me.

Most play this mode for period experience hence one upset green highlighted box click

instead of a greyed out restart selection should not have such repercussions.

Might finally finish a career now on the  4th try.

Bestest all.

Man - I hit a 109 with my prop - he went down and I had to bail. Was captured. "I GOT IT ON TRACK! I WANNA SEE IT!"

So I hit exit to see the track ... sadly I forgot to record ... double sadly ... my pilot is of course now "captured". Thanks to this thread I have changed his status to MIA ... and I am right now clicking mission through mission ... hoping he will find home, while missing the very thing I looked forward to: The airbridge in Stalingrad.

"You can refly a mission that goes wrong - but only if you do it immediately. You CAN'T do it the next day or any other time you'd prefer" ... what kind of logic is that?

By the looks of it, I can now click my way through - all the way to the war ends, and it turns out that my pilot died in a german POW-camp

Edit: I found a backup-file from yesterday, YEAH!  - but nope "proceed to next day failed". That's probably the reason you have to be online to play offline-career: So it can be policed how you play the game. Perhaps there is some official contest? I've never seen it, but if so, it's strange to leave a wide-open database on the users harddisk ... I'll now have to do Stalingrad all over again, even though I am not the kind of person who thinks that surviving a campaign somehow makes things more realistic.

That's partly right, you can refly mission anytime you want, but you need to restart it right away after mission ends.

So you died or get captured, but didn't want to end career, so you have to refly that mission again, but ain't have time or you don't desire to do it at that moment. You hit restart mission and after you get the map screen again, choose cancel to exit that mission and it will be saved and wait for your next play time.

Yeah, so it's a "now or never" deal. I think it should be more optional. It doesn't make sense that you "can have that choice, but only if you do it now". If people want restraints on the career I can understand that, so let them choose the restraints for themselves, like they can choose "Ironman". I made a mistake, and that means my whole career is flushed down the thing that you can flush.

At any rate, I realised that I could just start a new pilot at the time of operation Uranus, which is four days after my first pilot bailed, so I'm hunky dory. I lost my medals and my kills, which is kinda' irritating, but not too  important.

I noticed when clicking through one mission after another, hoping that my MIA-pilot would return, that "Airbridge" - the one were Luftwaffe looses more than 200 Ju-52s - is a series of bombing missions, and it ain't Ju-52s u're bombing. It seems to be the case with my new pilot as well. I'm really puzzled by some of the choices in this sim. Still - it's not only the only WW2 sim around - it's the best :)

On the first mission with my new pilot I shot down 4 planes, two were interfering with our escortees, and I just swooped down and PK'ed the first - it was perfect. I've never done that before, and the other three were great too, one more PK and an engine fire. The fourth was more like the usual ... chase and shoot for ever, until his engine finally can't take any more (I fly with unlimited ammo until I get better at shooting). I really love to fly this sim.

Well, I tried all suggestions, but I cannot able to recovery my previous career. I think restarting career with the same carachter, I lost all my previous data in BOM, BOS and BOK....

I attach the current files if someone want to try...

Well, thanks to an unaspected stroke of luck I had a copy of my career on my job pc.  Maybe I copied it months ago for some reasons...but now I don't remember.

I put a copy on the career folder on the game and it worked! I re-started from 1943-08-12 and I played a couple of missions. All seems works fine ?.

I losted a couple of mission months but it is better than lost the entire career. ?

From now on I must to have the habit to do a copy very frequently to avoid these heart attacks!

Ciao!

Guys sorry for necro move, but I may have the simplest suggestion for those that yet have "healthy" Careers; go to your root game folder and copy/paste swf and Career folders to somewhere safe. And do it often, every 10 or so missions.

That way when something goes wrong, you can replace corrupted Career with backup that will back you 10 missions, but works.
