I Destroyed a Submarine...

...and it was awesome. This really isn't a noteworthy accomplishment, other than I did it on the Wings of Liberty server.

 

I've been on that server multiple times but the result has been anything from flying around aimlessly lost, to crashing to being shot down out of nowhere. But last night after 60 hours in IL-2 it finally all came together. I successfully took off in a bomb loaded BF-110, navigated to where the suspected sub was without blowing my engine, communicated with another plane on patrol that gave the last sighting via map coordinates, spotted that same plane strafing an object on the water, spotted the sub's wake and then the sub, made a bombing run and dropped two 500 lb bombs (without the HUD bomb sight) that bracketed the sub and destroyed it. Got a congratulations from the other pilot, navigated back to the airfield w/out blowing an engine, and survived a landing (that did damage the plane). 

 

Anyway, it is really cool when everything comes together on a "realistic" server. I encountered no air opposition, but simply the act of searching for and finding the sub, then destroying it was as thrilling as any dogfight I've been in. It certainly helps that I figured out how to check my map and the match took place on the gorgeous Kuban map. Looking forward to more of those small victories. All players were very helpful in the chat, BTW. A great community makes this game fun to play.

It blowed up real good! It was on fire and everything. I didn't see how it sunk. 

 

I know it was a kill because it was the last sub that needed to be killed to "erase" that area of  sea control for the other team, and after I bombed it the Soviets no longer controlled that area on the map. I still am hazy on the rules of these MP games.

BOO right, Porkins you need to dish out the evidences (as in pics dude), so since I want no means of trouble around here I'll savor myself from posting any pics that involves the following: "This is how its done".

lol you mentioned that twice. I know Luftwaffe engines are finicky but they're not hard to manage. Just make sure your radiators (all of them) are open if applicable and control your RPM. With the 110, I think its just radiators. Keep a close eye on your ATA and she'll be right mate
