pilotpierre Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 Have been in the back blocks of Morocco (e.g. Sahara desert, Atlas Mountains) since prior to the launch. Wifi has been non existent or very patchy and slow. We get back to Australia on the 27th March. Wifi as it is makes it a slooooow laborious job trying to work through the forum. Apart from selecting 4K textures, any other hints for what I should be doing/selecting after downloading for the rig in my sig would be greatly appreciated as I only have 1 day home to attempt to download and set up before hospitalisation for prostate removal.
BOO Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 Hello Mate - I have a 1060 also but a 6600K at 4.4ghz. Ive not ventured into MP only SP. Its playing smooth in career with 6 A20s, 6 spitfires, some blue AI and ground inits about with cloud X3 terrain detail (not tried X4), HDR on, SSAO on, Mirrors Medium. Other In game settings - High Preset ( see later item about Coconuts cloud fix - I was happt with high before but ill be delighted if this works for me), Vsync on (Per JW) Fullscreen unticked (Per JW) Shadows High (perhaps medium I can check right now) Cloud detail High, Distance 130km (or whatever the one down from the very top one is). From the Nvidia Inspector I had nothing but single screen and optimal performance set. but Lemon hit on a potential fix for some of the AA issues with the cloud and stuttering You will see his post some way towards the bottom of the first page. Not tested yet but in short its: selecting "Enhance Game Settings"" in the AA mode, Selecting "on" in the AA transparency multisampling, Enable MFAA to "on", Anisotropic filtering to "user defined and then X16 (although m using X8 to start with), Texture filtering "High Performance" Trilinear Optimization to "on" Coconuts clouds fix - an altered config file that increases the cloud quality render BEYOND what is available in game on ULTRA (96) but also makes the same high setting available on Low - primarily to help VR users I think but the idea is that the clouds click less on the higher rendering settings than on lower and that this setting is a discrete item within each preset that can be independently altered. Ive not tested but since its Coconut I have faith. Ive also altered the settings in all my presets to the 128 used by Coconut for now. Panthercules and Thrawns work on enabling historical markings (IN MOD SECTION) - Some done - more being done. Finally - if you are going to use mods ENABLE the "Use Mods" in the game settings and invest some time into learning the basics of either JGSME or OvGME (I use the latter) - using these programs will really help you manage mods quickly, troubleshoot problems and save a lot of reconfiguring time if big updates clean the altered files. hope some of this helps Fella. 2
No_85_Gramps Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 I probably can't add any more to what Boo commented. But, dang, you must be a hardcore fan! One day to update prior to surgery??? Wish you the best and hope you have a speedy recovery!
BOO Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 (edited) So.....a little more testing (BOO style - no science, no graphs - gut feelings only :-)) The cloud fix by coconut works very well, rendering very smooth cloud transitions at all angles of view. The side effect also appears to be an improvment in the AA of aircraft seen in front of them. It doesn't fix the AA completely but, to me, it goes a long way to helping. Personally I think this is the best solution to the clicking clouds proposed to date and one that really improves their look overall. Its actually a very important reveal full stop as that file also opens up access to most of the important preset settings that many have wanted to be able to tweak for years - I'm currently running a balanced pre-set but with many elements from the higher ones inserted to my taste. Lemon's suggestions - I'm less convinced here. Certainly the MFAA being engaged would appear to be at odds with the convention that only games listed as using MFAA will benefit from it (I cannot see BOX listed). There is little performance impact either suggesting it has no effect. I saw no difference on or off. What I'm less sure about is the mode and transparency settings. If these work then it is subtle - I couldn't make my mind up after an hour but left on them on as I'm swayed to the "perhaps" camp. The biggest impact the NI settings have is Ansiotropic filters and perhaps the texture quality - The former does appear to improve the visual effect of aircraft against the clouds but it still not startling. In intense scenes (16 aircraft inc 8 multi crew AI, clouds, ground units) the high preset does clip into sub 60fps frame rates (1080P on a monitor) - Selecting Balanced (remembering I altered the config file to keep the clouds at the same render value as the ultra setting for all presents) offers a very good compromise though and one that may potentially be able to be tweaked further to suit. jaydee Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Hi Pierre ! Give it to you straight regarding your PC. 4k textures are going to hurt you in framerates (no mater what you set your Nvidia settings to.) If you settle for normal textures, you should be able to run Bos quite well. Pierre, I wish you a speedy recovery mate. ~S~
pilotpierre Posted March 26, 2018 Author Posted March 26, 2018 Ah thanks jaydee, that’s disappointing but what wil be will be until the next upgrade.
Ribbon Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 On 1440p monitor i only had to enable 4k field in settings and everything was flawless, on the other hand VR had more issues and tweaking. I wish you fast recovery!

After ticking the 4k and vsync boxes the stutters are gone.
pilotpierre Posted March 28, 2018 Author Posted March 28, 2018 Got home midnight on the 26th. Couldn’t sleep because of jet lag. Started download 0415 on the 27th. Had breakfast then started chores I won’t be able to do for next couple of months. Finished chores around 1500. Set game on Ultra with 4K textures, SSAO, HDR, fullscreen and Vsinc selected. No problem with QMB with up to 8 a/c in air. Started a career flying Mig escorting IL2’s. Got shot down on first mission but smooth all the way except for the fuzziness of a/c with a cloud in the background. Pleased as punch, can now head off happy shortly for the chop. (Biggest downside appears to be a shorted old fella which is a bit of a bummer.when one is not over endowed to start with). Becausethe surgery is robotic it’s only an overnight stay in hospital am hoping to get some air time over the Easter weekend starting this Friday. Thanks all for advice and well wishes. Happy flying comrades. Pete 1
dburne Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Best of luck!! Look forward to some great flying time in IL-2 3.001 here soon!

When I was 16 years old and joining the RAF, during the medical the doctor advised “ you’re lucky son, another inch and you would have been in the WRAF” (Woman's Royal Air Force). Seriously, get yourself sorted and a speedy recovery..... best wishes! Edited March 28, 2018 by Pajeka
pilotpierre Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 All done and dusted, now legal to walk around house singing the Village Peoples “macho macho man, I wish I could be a macho man” Expensive evolution, about $2,000 for specialist appointments and MRI, PET Scan and CT Scans, then $25,000 for the robotic operation. Fortunately if you have served in a war zone with the Australian Defence Forces once you turn 70 the Defence Veteran Affairs pays for all medical, dental, ambulance and hospital costs for the rest of your life. pajeka - the doc said dick shortening is minimal, but not to worry about that as more concerning is the possibility of not being able to get it up. 1

Feathered_IV Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Indeed, I hope you are on the mend soon PP and singing along to the Village People in a rich fruity baritone.
