I know lots of people are having problems, but if you are not having problems they are amazing specially the 2 layer, real nice and great job, the crossing of the clouds and getting the mist water on the windshield is the best of any flight sim including civilian.

Only disappointment is overcast when you are under it, the sky looks kind of light blue above you, like if it is just a think layer and you are almost on the top of it, and when you climb the blue turn into a thick cloud crossing. I imagine developers are aware of this.

In the meantime , loving the new clouds :)

How do you get the two layers. Is there a particular parameter or parameter combination.

Its random when you select heavy clouds. Sometimes there are small double layered clouds, sometimes big. I encountered big ones only once in quick mission builder.

My clouds are fizzing and swirling like they are engaged in some vast chemical reaction.  Is that normal?

I think most of us - so not all of us- suffer from it. The clouds issue pops up in several topic.

In some occasions like from further distance they seem to behave in a normal way.

I call them Samba Clouds.

Sometimes I caught myself thinking ROF clouds are the best ones ever bulit in a sim, good looking and no performance problems in game.

The clouds in BoX seem really devisive; I know people who are mainly DCS or CloD flyers who hate the clouds in BoX, but other than the shimmering around contacts in front of clouds and the slight motion you see sometimes, I think they are amazing and somthing where this sim is well ahead of those other two games. An added good thing is that in MP heveryone sees the same clouds. In CloD currently and DCS the clouds are random for each MP participant, so if you see a cloud, your wingman won't.

Is there any other setting that should be tweaked other than "clouds" quality selector in the graphics options? In my career (about 7 missions so far) I have only ever had one layer. And I have never seen anything like this, the detail in the below video is incredible, but my clouds never seem to achieve the same kind of fidelity.

I know something about the clouds changed with the switch to DX11. After the switch I always get concentric ring lines in the clouds from certain angles.

I was getting those ring lines prior to 3.001 on a fairly regular basis ( usually early morning flights), for whatever reason I have not see them yet in the new Career. May be due to the timing and maybe not flown any early morning missions yet...

Multilayer clouds on Wings of Liberty tonight.  Pretty fantastic effect:salute:

I absolutely love the new two layered cloud effect. IL-2s clouds themselves look really good especially when you take screenshots. In motion its a little more difficult to pull off.

They have switched from popping to a blended animation to make them look as good as they do. Its a mixed effect that sometimes blends in but sometimes also sticks out at times. I think the devs have made difficult choices to get this to work better and the outcome is still a little uncertain.

When I do see the new two layer clouds I definitely go on a screenshot shooting spree as they look so good.

The clouds can be amazing, especially when in two layers. But they seem too inconsistent. I'm running on Ultra, and I get the same cloud texture rotating, swirling effect that others get (not to mention worsened anti aliasing).

Overall, and I hate to say it, given the work that has gone into the new clouds, I prefer the Rise of Flight cumulus clouds. They have more detail when close up, and have much more vertical depth to them. They're much thicker, and extend both vertically as well as laterally. That being said, at a distance, IL2's clouds look a lot better, so I suppose it's a trade-off.

The current clouds look fantastic, but only sometimes, or only for some, which is a shame.

Just for comparison, here's RoF's rendition of clouds, 9 years ago.

I continue to maintain that Rise of Flight was ahead of its time with so many things.

Those clouds look really good (and I've seen them for myself in Rise of Flight) and there are some things about those clouds that do look a little better than what we have. Some things that don't too. Those have an odd rotation at times that we don't have anymore. They don't have as sophisticated a shading effect on the light and dark sides as we do now. It's a mixed bag.

Being a new guy here and never playing pre 3.001 BoX, or any 777 product before, I find it really interesting to observe how each developer tackles the problem of rendering various parts of the scenery.

For a single cumulus cell, I still think CloD v4.53 literally mops the floor with BoX and DCS from strictly visual point of view (size, volume, shading). On the other hand, cloud popping in the distance is a nightmare in CloD, there are no other types of clouds at all and I'm fairly sure they're not synchronized in MP, nor do they affect AI.

DCS cumulus clouds after v.2.5 shading tweaks are OK'ish, closer to BoX now I guess, but with no layers and no synchro plus some popping in they only "do the job" of being there and are not useful for much else really. And why oh why does the overcast sky always look as if the thunderstorm was coming with big dark grey, heavy layer above my head?

Flying amongst the clouds in BoK for the very first time couple of days ago, I was rather a bit disappointed by their poor shading, coupled with low framerate animation and "swirling samba" effect everywhere (one of those "Ummm, this game looked better on youtube than in real life" moments ). Not to mention bad overcast effect when looked from below - when I first loaded overcast sky I thought I did something wrong, because there was clearly a blue sky above me - it wasn't a couple of minutes in the flight until I figured this all-blue thing is 777's very peculiar interpretation of how overcast looks like from below . However, I do admire the darkening effect when piercing through overcast, I like the density of clouds in "heavy weather" preset (not possible to emulate in DCS), I like the slightly towering upper sides of cumuli - looks impressive when skimming atop of them; and I'm sure the fact they're synchronized is a BIG thing for online players, so even if they're not impressive from visual point of view, they're number on in the business from functional one.

Still waiting to catch the lovely double layer layout in the quick missions, but unlucky so far.

Love the clouds in BOX, luckily for me they are working fine.

Only disappointment is overcast , when you are below it looking up, shows blue ski.

hello guys, am i the only one who have bad picture of the distant clouds near the horizon when i'm between them and the ground??? like no anti aliasing... all is ok if i put the distant landscape to 40km because they disappear...

every settings are on ultra.
Config: RTX 2070 with latest drivers

              I7 6700K

              16Go

              2 SSD

if i zoom in it 's very better.
it's like artificial horizon: if zoom out: bad antialiasing

if zoom in: all is ok

Better overcast mod is great.

Much better than default overcast.

Yes, I get that a bit for clouds near the horizon. Not sure what setting causes it. It's like you describe - like no anti-aliasing is being applied.

That sound crazy cause with smaller PC config some guys do better!! Don’t know the cause...?

Maybe there is an AA setting in the Nvidia video card settings somewhere that does it? As far as I can tell I've always had it a little bit. Your rig is better than mine. its not a huge hit to the look of the game for me so I just haven't spent any time to try fixing it.

It’s not a huge hit for sure but...

I’ll try with AA on Nvidia panel too.

Game does not support AA forced through control panel
without hacking drivers with Nvidia Inspector.

Even then as its DX11 you cannot for true AA as not compatibility Bits for it.

Game supports ingame 2 x and 4x MSAA (hardware)
Or External SMAA or FXAA Via Reshade (software Post AA)

you can however run the Game at 1440P or 2160P DSR Resolution on a 1080P Screen with Nvidia
if using 2160P will give great results and often no need for Any Anti Aliasing.
if using 1440P it will be slightly blurry (can be fixed with sharperning filter in reshade)

Not agree with that..

if I put on « improve game AA » in the Nvidia control panel with x4 or x8 it’s better...

but harder to find enemy contacts..

DSR work well and prove that the screen definition may be the problem...

but I don’t like menu’s deformation, I need my magnifying glass ^^ahahah

Maybe this game is developed  for the 4K... strange that in downer résolutions we got such aliasing...

Nb: i don’t play with VR I’m talking about 2D ;)
(sorry for my English;) )
