keeno Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Brilliant update!! sexy plane and the new skin textures and reflections...........WOW!!!
Finkeren Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Does anybody know what the deal is with this skin? It's got old markings painted over but the green on green camo and two roundels on top of the wings don't look USAAF to me. Is it a transfer from the UK? edit: the internet answered my question - this has "former RAF" written all over it (didn't see the painted-over tail flash at first). IMG_1685.JPG Almost all the discarded British P-400s eventually found their way to the VVS I think.
Riderocket Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) Excited for next update ! Edited January 26, 2018 by Riderocket
mpdugas Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 so much shiny new stuff to play with, and even more to come!! many, many thanks!
scrapmetal Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I say "rendering", but TBH I don't know what the hell I'm talking about from a technical standpoint I just recall they were doing something to make the metaly bits shine more realistically. I see a reflection and normal map in play in that texture. Looks good.

IMG_1685.JPG Yeah, you beat me to it. It'll be a former 601 Sqn Airacobra mk I. P39 looks great + other features will be nice. Shame no RAF skin thou If I remember correctly, they flew a single combat mission before being replaced almost immediately, so there's not really any RAF service to speak of. The bare metal finish looks killer though. And I'm quite drawn to the sandy desert ones as well... 1
smink1701 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Just took another look at the P 39 skins. They are gorgeous!
Warpig Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I was never a P-39 fan, but I gotta say, them pictures are beautiful! 1
Thad Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) Salutations all, Yes, the P39 looks great. I'm looking forward to discovering how well it flies and fights. Edited January 26, 2018 by Thad

No matter anyway, it looks great and can't wait for that bare metal P-47 (with plenty of weathering of course) 1
sport02 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 something strange with the look of the clouds for me
Buglord Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 That P39 looks good looking forward to its release... today is a good day also my Thrustmaster twcs & vkb gladiator mk.ii arrived today
Danziger Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 something strange with the look of the clouds for me It's been like this since the DX11 update. The previous clouds were great. I'm sure they will work something out to get the clouds nice again eventually.
Gambit21 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 It's been like this since the DX11 update. The previous clouds were great. I'm sure they will work something out to get the clouds nice again eventually. Current release version clouds are still normal for me. 1
Danziger Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 At first I was thinking it was an AMD issue but my laptop is Intel and nvidia and the clouds are still the same. I know when the DX11 update released there were huge problems with AMD cards and a patch was released that cured the problem but was a compromise on the graphic quality in order to do so. I can't remember if Jason said it affected the clouds as well or just the smoke effects. Anyway you can see even in a lot of screenshots some circle pattern in the clouds when seen from certain angles. Pretty sure there is a report in the bugs section about it but I don't know what they could really do about it.
FuriousMeow Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) Pretty sure that compromise was removed after AMD fixed their drivers. 2.010: 9. Thanks to AMD software engineers who fixed the addressing in certain situations, we were able to return more optimized particle effects rendering. This might give you a minor performance boost; Edited January 26, 2018 by FuriousMeow
pilotpierre Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 All good, roll on the P39 and A-20 for moi.
Rolling_Thunder Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I was never a P-39 fan, but I gotta say, them pictures are beautiful!Just thinking the same.I always thought it was an ugly weird looking airplane. Changing my mind now.
kestrel79 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Hope we get many new bare metal skins with that new tech...looks great! I'm so excited for the Bodenplatte planes just to see a P-51/P-47/P-38 with that bare metal skin
Winglesschip209 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Great updates! I'm astounded at the levels of detail that Pretrovich has been working on in areas that I just wouldn't even think of. That's why he is doing the systems engineering stuff and I'm just typing this message Great work guys! Also... THIS looks amazing. I mean.... Look at that. Stunning! Last night before I went to bed I was thinking on the P-40E how theirs that American skin that looks aluminum color I was thinking how cool it would be if they made it more shinny and look what I find after work looks very nice
KaC_Richard_Rogers Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 7.2 It is impossible to open or close the canopy at speeds higher than 600 km/h. WooHoo I presume this means while the Russian planes will not be on par with the German's it will allow Russian pilots a better chance to bail... especially the La5.
FuriousMeow Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 The 190 had charges to blow the canopy off to bail out. I think, but not sure, the 109 did as well.
von_Greiff Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 The 190 had charges to blow the canopy off to bail out. I think, but not sure, the 109 did as well. ...as far as I know,109 did not, heard an interview, were a 109 pilot mentioned, they even dried to flip the plane on its back to open it easier and more likely prevent to fall against the rudder! yours v.Greiff

NO_SQDeriku777 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 End of January was Jason's personal earliest estimate, if they encountered no issues or there was no feature creep. I gotta say that the features have crept pretty far with 3.001 - boy is there a lot of content coming in this one. Off the top of my head: Career mode for all three (4?) chapters Coop mode Nearly 40 different mission types P-39L A-20B Yak-7B La-5FN Bf 109G6 New ship models (I think?) Increased render distance for landscape Improved clouds Improved weather effects Rain on the canopy glass a host of small improvements in engine models and DM EDIT: Forgot improved ground rendering and FX. Does anyone know what COOP will be like? People reference ROF-style COOP, but since I never owned or played ROF I have no frame of reference here. As much as I enjoy the details of the planes I would really like to know what interface changes are in the works to facilitate multiplayer. There was much talk of something resembling Hyperlobby but I have yet to see anything about these features in recent dev diaries. Have I missed something?
FuriousMeow Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 MP interface changes to include chat and alternate match making is post-Kuban official release.
NO_SQDeriku777 Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 MP interface changes to include chat and alternate match making is post-Kuban official release. What about COOP details?
FuriousMeow Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 RoF needed at least 2 people to start. The only difference between Coop and what we have right now is rather than the start of the mission not happening until it is started from the person running the Coop, the current MP can allow people and AI to take off right when they join. Although timers can be set to delay when AI take off, and gentleman's rules apply for people to agree to not take off before the mission is agreed to start by all participants. Coops just hold the start of the mission until everyone is joined. Plenty of wars were done with RoF's multiplayer mode that is the base for the current MP mode in BoX, so wars and missions can be done with the current MP it just requires timer delays on AI and people agree to not start until everyone is ready.

Looks very weird in some situations.

Pail Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 (edited) all inspired now; will have to re-read soon, great writing/aviation book!! "a temperamental P-39 Airacobra, ............. she was a `sexy machine, and rotten.' Together they flew countless wartime missions, so vividly described here that the reader sighs with relief when Nanette and her pilot return safely'' hehehe "However, the Airacobra was never a popular aircraft with the U.S. Army Air Force. Its short cruising ... It was variously described as "disappointing," of no use for operations "except in an emergency," "suited for wide, low and slow circles," and the "widow maker" by pilots and historians of the army air force." "Why then did the Airacobra suffer such a “bad press” when compared with the P40? Rather than technical difficulties, the P39 was beset with psychological misgivings on the part of the average pilot who disliked knowing that the heavy Allison engine, mounted just behind the cockpit, poised behind him was ready to crush him in case of a belly landing." from Flying American Combat Aircraft of World War II: 1939-1945 https://books.google.com.au/books?id=P0KiPMJuXkUC&pg=PA107&lpg=PA107&dq=widowmaker+airacobra&source=bl&ots=bSYTRkUfZx&sig=MspoD4Cs44wJeaycHzDtjg2dRe0&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiF78G_9fbYAhUKfLwKHZ7rDwEQ6AEIPzAJ#v=onepage&q=widowmaker%20airacobra&f=false "Despite the bad press which later dogged it" https://www.awm.gov.au/articles/blog/p-39-airacobras-defence-australia The internet is confused and thinks the widowmaker was the B-26.... Pail Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Lord lord, I cant wait! Yep I'm getting a little concerned about a peasant revolt and cases of spontaneous combustion in association with the anticipation for this patch.
Pail Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Front-mounted engines are for people who can't commit. We have to be satisfied with vicarious pleasures for now.... 1
wombatBritishBulldogs Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Hopefully the team kill percentages will drop off a little given the unique design / profile of the p-39 But the Molotov cocktail in the backseat is a wee concerning given the hunks of metal the opposition toss around ! even if self sealing Skins and screenshots looking nice .
