Hi ZM12CR8

Did you finish the campaign ?  I personaly can't finished it as I am blocked at the last mission ( 19 Escape from Gumrak). I have a pop up telling " Can not open effect. graphic\effects\arm\hit_shell-he-200-1000g_ground.epl" followed by a CTD and I have to use the Task Manager to exit Il-2 . Apart of this I only had a big problem with Mission 6 "Advanced to the Volga" It took me more than 10 minutes to go through Grid 0827/2 ....

Have fun

Hi madcop,

no, i couldn´t finish the campaign yet. At the moment i stick in misson 14. I don´t know, what i have to do to finish succesfully. In full real, i´m able to shoot down 4 to 6 IL2. Don´t know what about the tanks near the stopped train. Do i have to destroy a few of them? It seems to be impossible with only MG151. I return to pitomnik, when i´m out of ammo and out of fuel.

same here. fps went down to 1 -3! When i still stayd in the mission, later i could finish.

What you tell about mission 19 seems to be a problem maybe with different versions or a missing mod, you perhaps need?

If it all works correctly, it is a fantastic campaign. But sometimes i get really desperated.

Have also fun

Jörg

Well dear friends, since I have had a lot of work, I have not been able to dedicate time to correct the problems and I really like this campaign for being my first.
Let's see, there are effects that have disappeared with the updates and that should mean some warnings. Explosion effects have been changed and it is necessary to change each effect for new ones (and test that they are the ideal ones).

So, I have identified missions 6,14 and 19 with problems. I understand that who got the last mission, did  have any inconvenience in the previous ones?
Definitely, the low fps could be the incompatibility of some effects, or also some mobile element that due to the updates has been left with some erroneous behavior and that also generates performance losses (example, a truck stopped in a block trying to move forward)
I have already reviewed these 3 missions and detected the problem. I must have time to correct. I will try today and tomorrow to correct the last mission to see that it looks good and thus correct the others.
Greetings pilots!

You developed this campaign in your spare time and are making it available to the IL2 community for free. You don't have to apologize, we have to say thank you.
You're right, the campaign is really, really good, and I'm really enjoying it. But sometimes there are small technical problems or, as with me, problems in recognizing or achieving the mission goal.
I don't know if Mission 14 is really a problem. I also had big problems with Mission 4 in the beginning, but in the end I passed it.
The fault was mine, not yours.
Speaking of which: Mission 4 also had an fps problem. just before the hill is taken and the yaks emerge.
First it gets very fast and then very slow.
The best thing to do is to get out of the area of the hill quickly, then it works.
The strange accumulation of crashed 111s on the edge of the forest in the target area also seems like it shouldn't be.
There are a few other small bugs that are not that important, so I can't remember exactly.
E.g. the names of the leaders and fellow pilots in one mission got mixed up a bit.
I will definitely continue to play the campaign and I am very grateful for your work.

Te reason is because with updates, information in some commands where changed. In fact in mission 4, some planes are at 860m, when they should be al 1000m. And the next waypoint was in the ground at 45.6m. So, they don´t follow the other waypoints or crush. Some effects are not more in the game, and added others and so on.

Don´t worry. I like create missions

Salute!

There have been similar issues with the effects in Veteranen's JG51 Over Velikie Luki campaign

Same error message:

"Can not open effect. graphic\effects\arm\hit_shell-he-200-1000g_ground.epl"

Which is called from 3  of the files that the campaign adds to Luascripts:

veteran_ari1.txt

037.txt

041.txt

Made a temp fix to allow the missions to be played by commenting out the call to the effects.

But if you can update these files to call new effects they would then work in the other campaigns too, so would be very welcome.

This campaign is really good especially if it is your first.  I did have difficulty on a couple of the missions where a boat load of He111s spawned in a heap on the ground.  It brought my machine to standstill.  Not sure if anyone else has reported this.

I have also encountered the strange fps bug. What's really weird is that i have several fps-counters on that have been rather reliable. They all count in the range of 70-120, but i get one picture every 1-2 seconds.

I'll try again tomorrow, maybe i can finish the mission nonetheless. I'd love to, cause the campaign is great fun and i am really enjoying it! Thanks for all the work that you put in :)

**************************************************************************************************************************************

For new downloaders this is the last version of the campaign with the new version of game 4.701

Open that folder and copy the folder 'data' from the 'Campaign Lost Hope.rar' file into the IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad main directory. This will put all the missions into the 'IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Campaigns\LostHope' folder and the effects into the correct sub-folders in the 'IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\LuaScripts\...' directory.

I tried to correct some veteranen campaign sounds, resave again. The main issue is because the folder in wich all those sounds were stored, does not exist any more from some update in the past. Added manually. If the issue still present, maybe will need to redone the campaign , ufff.

I finally had the time to fly this campaign. Did it in 4.703c. The atmosphere was really great, especially with the new clouds, sky etc. I can't report any mission related issues that would be related to how the environment has changed since the campaign was generated.

Excellent work and I highly recommend the campaign especially if you haven't played it already in the past. You can really feel the pressure of ending up in the pocket in the last missions.

Thanks for your feedback. I haven't had a chance to fly this campaign again since the cloud and sky updates. I am currently working on 2 more campaigns. One from the Me 262 and another from the D9 Dora but now with a Rheinland map since the first campaign (Langnase Dora) was with a Stalingrad map because the Rhineland map had not yet been released.
Greetings!

Just in case anyone has map emitter errors like 'veteran_explosion1.txt' :

This is from Veteranen66 campaign JG51 over veliki luki. extract it in to your Luascripts\worldobjects\mapemitters folder. Might fix it?

Hi Walter. I've really enjoyed the campaign so far, (latest version up to mission 05). However, in mission 06, the moment I hit the first of the attacking Yaks, the game goes into ultra slow motion of about 1 FPS. Tabbing through the allied aircraft I find there has appeared a HUGE pile of He-111 (about 30 of them) all piled up in a burning scrapyard somewhere below in Stalingrad.  I have screenshots of this but they are far too big to attach. This has happened twice now and is clearly the reason for the slide show. I've read through the posts in this thread but no one else seems to have experienced this. Suggestions please, as I cannot progress because of this issue.

Hello, it's strange because I'm checking that mission in the editor and I can't find He111 planes anywhere. Do you have the place where you say that happens?

That is strange! I don't have the exact spot, only that it appears to be in a warehouse in Stalingrad. I will play it again and try to identify it.

So this time, I didn't even attack anything and the same slow down happened. I was able to see the mass of He111 in the oval with all the oil tanks and buildings all on fire. See the screenshot detail below.

Hello gentlemen! I'm a below average pilot, despite my over 2k hrs on all IL-2 Sturmovik games. I never played online, only scripted and generated campaigns and missions, 'cause i enjoy immersion overall. Have a pretty decent setup, virpil @ stuff. Sometimes i had to replay a dozen times a mission, never gave up. Now i'm for the first time really uncertain of myself. Lost Hope, mis 4. Tried like 20 times. Those 3 yaks always shoot me down, even when desperately landing. The question is: is there a glitch, or i should quit this campaign, being tooo difficult for me? For ex, all the german side Jaggmeister campaigns I found difficult, but managed to complete, sometimes having to replay 1-2 mis, once or two. Same with all the Mustang or P-47's.

An onest answer would be much appreciated.

Thx alot @ clear skyes

Just started playing the Lost Hope campaign and was wondering is there is a BF-109-G2 skin pack for it somewhere out there that will work with the campaign. Would be very grateful if someone has one. I would prefer 4K if possible. thank you.

I have some missions in the trunk that I haven't worked on yet. I also want to give my campaigns some new touches since they were created a few years ago. I don't have enough time for that, but I'm looking forward to working on them.

Thank you for your comments. I tried to read them through Google Translate into English since I speak Spanish (Chilean). But I understood despite some strange Google translations.
Indeed, I wanted to present this campaign from the perspective of a pilot without many medals, who would represent the vast majority who flew in Operation Barbarossa. Many pilots arrived with little experience and lower ranks, whose names we will never know, nor will we see their medals and ace ranks on the shelves of history. Many flew alone in vast steppes where getting lost was common.
Best regards!

without receiving any answer :) i've moved towards other missions.

Done most of @CzechTexan campaigns, really good ones, and some particularly hard ones. So i've trained myself into being more inventive, aggressive and agile, thanks to the texan's fantastic works, and with all that gained experience i've returned back to this campaign that has a very different approach to things. There are no waypoints, the unexpected is quite the norm, and the enemies are quite tough (for me).

Have gone so far till mission nr 5, and i'm impressed (although sometimes i tend to.....loose hope).

Spoiler

Mamaiev, second day, was indeed something special. First of all, without being able to communicate by radio, you have to find "your" Ju-88 and help him to destroy some hidden landings. Once you extend your patrol, there's a well camouflaged La just waiting to tear you to pieces. Feeling satisfied with his demise, i proceeded to base, but got called back to the hill: it was attacked by many Il-2 s, escorted by 2 Yak s. A furious battle emerged, and after damaging some Il-s (no ammo left for the pods) i've started a crazy duel with one of those red nosed devils. Man, he was good..... I presumed that being red nosed was the leader, an ace, and did my best. Eventually, with my last cannon shots managed to damage him enough as to crash land, and then returned to Pitomnik, not in flames, but in glory. What a fight. Checking in the editor i was a bit disappointed : yes, the leader he was, but the difficulty level was only "normal"...and the hole fight was so tough....my pride was dented a bit.

thank you, @GOA_Walter_Nowotny for your great work. Much appreciated.

So, i've finished this exceptionally campaign. I will not make a full review, because each view's particular, and what I like in particular might not appeal to another.

But I can tell you is this:

- the missions are so well written that they give you an actual sense of bonding between them. Using real names also contributes to this exceptional sense of immersion.

- you take off with a job, well, as in real life, that might change. There are several twists and turns and happenings and the unexpected is at some corners.

- some missions i've found very, very hard. Like mis 11 and 13 : you have several objectives, somehow linked to each other, and in order to achieve success it is mandatory  to approach the different stages of the mission very thoughtfully and use orders to your teammates wisely. (yes, the AI works pretty well ). Finally succeeded in mis 11 at the 13th attempt.

- there are some missions in which you get the sense of overwhelming (14, for ex) where all of you clearly run out of bullets before the soviets run out of planes.....

- you are informed through messages  what's going on in the area, so you know, for ex, that despite your best efforts the airfield is lost, the medical planes are shot down, and so on. This really gives you a connection with the world around

- the attention to details , especially on the ground, is incredible: on the final mission, while being bombed, there are pieces of aircraft flying around you, gunners from half destroyed planes shooting wildly from the ground at the attackers, and planes with the hoods open (you can see the engine!!) around your path. Oh, and it's also madness. Into all that, the ground controller puts the german efficiency to work to save what still can.

- the lack of waypoints, and so the fact that triggering mission events is not linked to crossing waypoints gives you larger freedom , increases immersion, and of course makes it harder.

So, this is not a review :) , it's a well deserved praise to an challenging, story wise, highly immersive campaign and it's creator.

¡Muchas gracias, Walter, por un trabajo bien hecho!
