1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 There is also the issue of the AI diving into the ground if they have too much energy - but they seem to be addressing that already? Unfortunately they still do it.
Semor76 Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 There are many serious AI issues what needs to be fixed with patch 3.001. Period! Look a these 3 threads, that says all. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/31321-special-topic-work-ai-ai-behavior-commands-wingman/ https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/12258-autopilot-and-ai/page-4?do=findComment&comment=558010 https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/32011-scripted-campaigns-will-never-be-excellent-until-ai-improved/ The new campain and Coop mode stand and fall with a proper AI. I have spend hundreds of hours in SP and what we have currently is catastrophic. If the AI don´t get improved, the new campaign system could be a desaster for us single players. 1
Mac_Messer Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Not to be a wiseguy, but the AI in old IL2 were krap too. But still we managed. Not to say there shouldn`t be improvements ofcourse.
OrLoK Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I'm positive any flaws in the AI are well known to the devs and if it was a quick and easy fix, well, it would have been implemented by now. I'm not expecting a major AI improvement in the next patch but I bet its under constant scrutiny and high on the dev todo list. Personally, like every other game, I find the AI to be desperately stupid or an absolute ACE at times. What we tend not to notice is when the AI is working as it should. Which in my limited experience is most of the time 3
unlikely_spider Posted January 24, 2018 Author Posted January 24, 2018 What we tend not to notice is when the AI is working as it should. Which in my limited experience is most of the time Well, sure. I don't mean to take away from the fact that this sim is a tremendous accomplishment, and the developers should receive acclaim for that and for their dedication. However, reading most memoirs from period pilots, it seems that the majority of fighter-to-fighter kills (and certainly the bulk of the kills from the most successful aces) were sneak attacks where the victim never saw the attack coming. That means that the most common type of air encounter between WW2 fighters simply is not possible in this sim in single player, due to the radar that the AI seems to have equipped.

Oh, I can understand the frustration! And yes, this may be an issue (and an important one) but I bet the devs are more than aware (not that this should stop us discussing it.) I was just concerned at the tone and direction the thread seemed to be going in some quarters. It's great to bring up these issues and be constructively critical (and propose possible solutions) but when folk seem to get a bit demanding of the devs I start to worry! Gambit21 Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Thinking more about this, I don't want the AI "shifted" (Low becomes High etc) because it would mess up every mission we've created and spent so long testing. Rather additional settings, one below the current "low" and one between the current "low' and "normal" would suffice as even "normal" is pretty damn accurate. Ace can stay but shouldn't be used unless you want that supernatural effect for some reason.
Feathered_IV Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I really do hope the AI chatter gets some sensible redesign. I just can't deal with it anymore.
blitze Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 With a recent intercept mission, flight of 4, me leading, I was pretty annoyed when instructing my AI flight to engage nearest air target they just flew around and didn't engage the 4 il2's we were tasked with bringing down. The reformed formation when ordered and also headed for home when told to as well which can be a hep when you get a little lost on the map after an engagement )) I concur with the having a lower level of AI from novice and then an in between level between this current novice and normal. Especially for AA
