franx Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I'm sure others have dealt with this, and I could use your help. How do I lock the gunsight in place so I'm not constantly re-centering it as my head moves in TrackIR? Thanks in advance.
clouddancer Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Lean to gunsight I think is what you need bind a key to it or better still a button on your joystick
Warpig Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Lean to gunsight I think is what you need bind a key to it or better still a button on your joystick I think you're referring to IL-2: CloD. There is no "lean to gunsight: control in IL-2 BoS that I'm aware of. @OP: You can try setting up TrackIR axes so there's a minor deadzone. You'll have to move your head a bit further before activation, but it makes it real easy to stay centered in your cockpit without having to re-center the TrackIR software so much.
Finkeren Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 (edited) I use a simpler method: I simply set a dead-zone for head movement in the TrackIR software. That way you don’t have to find the exact “spot” where you’re lined up with the sight but just move your head to the general area of the “neutral” position, and then the sight will pop into view fully aligned. Edit: Warpig beat me to it. Edited January 15, 2018 by Finkeren 1
franx Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 Thanks. But another dumb question, How do I adjust the DZ in TrackIR. It's obvious with my joystick, but I've never done it with my TrackIR software.
Warpig Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 (edited) Refer to this video. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=trackir+tutorial EDIT: This video is much better actually. I would have shown you mine for an example, but I recently removed all my deadzones. And like a dummy, I didn't save my old profile. I'll be remaking mine with deadzones again, because I've learned it was a lot better that way. Edited January 16, 2018 by Warpig
Wedgewood Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 You might also be able to bind a key to pause the TrackIr momentarily while aiming, that way you don't have to deal with the clumsyness of deadzones.
sniperton Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 To whom it may concern, Opentrack users can also define a key or button for "zero" ("keep looking forward until next zero keypress") in Options/Shortcuts. Separate keys can be defined for "zero" (as a toggle) and "zero while held".
Royal_Flight Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 I seem to be going against the grain here, but I would t recommend deadzones. Might work for you so try both ways, but I find it better not to and just lower the sensitivity a bit instead, and change the curves so the view runs a bit slower towards the middle. Overall you can't as easily pull off some of the more 'gamey' tricks (such as snapping your neck back 180 degrees in a nanosecond) but I find that it makes for more stable and less jumpy movement over the full range of motion. I find that having a deadzone taking up a small part of my forward view is more frustrating than helpful, especially when trying to look around the nose, or look st the instruments but keep the horizon in my field of vision, or basically why time you want to be able to see ahead without having your view snap to the default. I think the ability to move your head around is more useful, and especially helps when trying to fire while manoeuvring if the target and the sight and your head don't line up in a straight line along the aircraft centreline. Try both ways and see which suits you, but at least test with no deadzone in case you prefer that.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 (edited) TIR software also has something called precision mode which when activated it limits and smooths movement. If you assign that precision mode button to the trigger or to another button it will stabilise your head when/before shooting. I have it on the trigger and it works well Edited January 16, 2018 by AeroAce
Guest deleted@50488 Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 I've long been using Syn-Requiem's profile and it works like a charm. Check this thread: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/3625-air-combat-tutorials-tir-profile-g940-controls-18-november-2/

Check this thread: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/3625-air-combat-tutorials-tir-profile-g940-controls-18-november-2/ I've never had a problem with this profile. I can see the I-16 instruments, P-40 fuel tank, and Spitfires engine limitations plate with ease.
franx Posted January 18, 2018 Author Posted January 18, 2018 Guys thanks for the good advice. I'm using the Syn-Requiem profile now it works great! Much appreciated!

Check this thread: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/3625-air-combat-tutorials-tir-profile-g940-controls-18-november-2/ Hi, I'd like to try his profile to compare the feeling with mine. Please, where do I need to paste the extracted file ? I found that obvious place (Natural Point > TrackIR 5 > Profiles > ...) but can't even find my own profiles here (one for Il-2 and another one for Assetto Corsa).. Only the default alteration "Smooth" and "one2one". Could you please shed some lights on me ?

Solmyr Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 You can find it in C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Profiles Thank you, I should have thought..
Solmyr Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 (edited) I loaded it but didn't even fire Il-2, seems that profile is not for me. Was worth a try though. Here is mine, in case it could please someone : (Note that I use it with 1.4 speed factor) Edit : I'm not allowed to submit such a file.. It a RAR though so dunno. Edited January 20, 2018 by Solmyr
