Porkins Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 (edited) Kuban looks really interesting, but I'm still on the fence. Some questions I'm hoping to get some help with: Any idea how many different ship types there will be in game? I'm generally interested in how naval focused this game will be. How does multiplayer work with Kuban? Do you have to buy the game to play MP on a Kuban map? Anyplace I can look to learn what they're planning for the campaign? Though I really enjoy Stalingrad, the campaign is not great. I wonder if they're going to make the Kuban campaign better than what is on offer in Stalingrad. Thanks! Edited January 8, 2018 by Porkins

Though I really enjoy Stalingrad, the campaign is not great. I wonder if they're going to make the Kuban campaign better than what is on offer in Stalingrad. Thanks! Hey there Porkins. Will try and answer as best as possible: 1) Ships: The combined total of ships currently in-game is 15. That includes the riverboat and transport ship that was released for use with Stalingrad and the rest that came with Kuban. I'm not sure if they intend to add any more but we do have a reasonably decent selection of ships. They range from the Type 7 destroyer to a U-Boat to torpedo gunships and the like. It's not a fleet action list but it is appropriate for the kind of littoral naval combat that was typical for the battle. The ships themselves are decently well detailed and that includes having some convincing damage effects. I wrote a bunch about ships here: https://stormbirds.blog/2017/09/03/shipping-strikes-in-il-2/ 2) Multiplayer: For the IL-2 Great Battles Series (BoM/BoS/BoK, etc.) multiplayer works like this. You can fly on any map regardless of which module you own. If you don't own Moscow but the Moscow map is playing you'll be able to fly on it... provided that the mission has aircraft in it that you do own. So you're restricted by the aircraft you own but not the battle/map. This seems like a reasonable compromise to me. 3) Campaign: The current single player campaign system is being replaced completely. Career mode will take over in its place when 3.001 releases with the official Battle of Kuban launch. Its also replacing the system for Battle of Moscow and Battle of Stalingrad so this is an across the board upgrade. Best place to read about it is probably the Developer Diary: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/168-developer-diary/page-5 We're also getting another installment from Black Six of his wonderful mission making abilities with an IL-2 Scripted Campaign for the Kuban battle. I'm pretty excited to play that. EDIT: There's also some good looks at what the new Career mode GUI looks like here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/32758-final-release-battle-kuban-delayed-little-bit/ Edited January 8, 2018 by ShamrockOneFive 5
Chief_Mouser Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Hi Porkins. I think that your best bet might be to read over a year of Dev Diaries. Start at 132 and you will be at the beginning of the Battle of Kuban development. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/168-developer-diary/page-4 So many things in these updates are already available, and there are a lot more to come including stuff that was a total surprise when announced. It's a long read, but if you are still on the fence after going through that lot then you'll never decide. Cheers.
Porkins Posted January 8, 2018 Author Posted January 8, 2018 Thanks so much gents for the replies, very helpful!
Cpt_Cool Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Also, while it is on preorder you get a discount, so you got that going for you. Which is nice.
56RAF_Roblex Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 We already have Kuban MP servers, we have done for several months, and everyone with BoS or BoM has been able to fly in them. I am not sure there are any right now as servers tend to rotate their maps and two of the main ones are currently offline being upgraded but take a look through the others and you may find one with Kuban running. I know the Finnish server is not Kuban. Not sure about WoL. 1
Chief_Mouser Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Following on from Roblex's post, definitely take a look at the Kuban map if you can find it online - it's beautiful!
Porkins Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 Will do. I've played a few MP matches over the holidays, but never saw Kuban come up in the rotation.
