Are you sure you are not having problems with another game?

You say you have BLITZ and it works fine... there is no other program... if you have TOBRUK, it is a DLC for BLITZ and therefore launches with BLITZ.

Are you having problems with the other STURMOVIK games like STALINGRAD or others? Those are separate games... different game engine... please see their forums.

Whatever game it is, your problem in any case very much resembles what happens when the AV blocks an .exe.

You also could be having a problem with STEAM... you should not have the overlay enabled.

If in fact the problem is with CLIFFS OF DOVER - BLITZ, then please see the 'Getting Started and Troubleshooting Guide'.

CLOD/DWT , File integrity checked tonight. It said 647 files were updated. What's up with that? CLOD/DWT has been working and performing good in sim, 160-185 FPS and running real smoothly in battles and solo flying.

Loading missions is strange. At random times during initial load into plane skin select and map screen I have to click the Windows key on my keyboard and then click on the Laucher64 shortcut on my my quickstart taskbar to progress further. When I click 'fly', at random times the mission will not start until I preform the windows key operation described in the last sentence. The mission will start fine and work fine and then at random times it will crash somewhere in the mission. usually about 20+ minutes into the mission. This does not happen every mission.

Hello Blademeister

Our coder who usually handles analyzing crash files is on vacation with his family till the 25th... when he gets back I will pass your file on to him.

It would seem you have had a corruption of your install at some point... as seen by the verification changing the files.

Whether that was a one time thing or there is a program changing the files is a question which needs the coder to look at.

In the meantime, I would recommend you do the following:

- Make sure you are running the latest official, (not beta) NVidia drivers.

- That old standard... Delete the cache file. ?

I also notice you have a lot of programs running which are unnecessary while playing the game and which could interrupt and crash the game.

For example:

YourPhone.exe

Is it possible to turn this and other unnecessary 3rd party programs off when playing?

Regarding your monitor:

Are you running 240 hz and the same resolution in the game settings? If this is not available, then that might be part of the problem. Try running 60hz.

Ty you Buzzsaw. I went through and found the Apps running in background menu and cut out a whole host of stuff. I am trying different settings in NCP, but it seems changing the launcher64 to Win7 compatibility mode has allowed CLOD to function normally for me again, i.e. , once clicking the fly button in a single mission it shows the loading bar like normal and then the plane skin & map screen. I can actually grab and move the plane in the skin viewer screen and zoom in on it in real time. Before, trying to manipulate the plane in skin viewer literally had like 10 seconds lag and loading a skin probably 8 secs lag. When I click the actually fly button to enter the mission everything is working as expected. I did have 2 crashes mid mission during my initial adjustment of the Refresh Rate down to 60hz and application controlled Refresh Rate, but after a couple more adjustments in NVCP, changing refresh back to 240hz and changing refresh from App controlled back to fastest possible rate, I had a complete mission and no crash. I am out of time to test tonight but I will do some more poking around tomorrow night. I am curious to see what your crash analyzer has to say about the crash files. I will update here when i feel I have a stable situation, which I may already have, but I need more time to confirm. I must say though, I have had a fair bit of problems trying to really get things squared away for a hassle free CLOD, but, and this is a BIG Butt, I really enjoy what TFS has done with the DWT map and especially the SP missions, the few I have flown. I am really getting the feel for the Tomahawk and/or Kittyhawk and I am really beginning to enjoy it and become a lethal adversary for the macaronis and the huns! :good: Here is a pic of appreciation. :cool:

Thank you for your earlier comments. This is the only Steam game that will not start. I am not having any problems with any other steam games including il2 . Only IL2 Cliffs of Dover does not start. All other steam games work perfectly.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled/rebooted many times but IL2 Sutmovick: Cliffs of Dover will not start. Quite a puzzle. I checked and all IL-2 games have identical firewall/anti-virus permissions.

Again--no problem starting IL-2 Sturmovik: (1946/Battle of Stalingrad/Cliffs of Dover Blitz). Only IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover will not start.

Any ideas?

Yesterday I tried starting CloD Blitz and it wouldn‘t get past the banner. Tried deleting the CloD folder under Documents and it didn‘t help (this usually helps restoring any corrupted file).

Turns out I had TeamSpeak Overlay on, which has always worked, and it wouldn’t work anymore after Win10 21H1 update and Nvidia‘s latest drivers. I turned it off and it worked.

So, a few things you can try. Some might have been mentioned (definitely by me in earlier posts) and tried before, but here goes:

-Set your Launcher to Win7 compatibility (right click it, under properties/compatibility)

-Disable overlays, like Geforce Experience, Steam or TeamSpeak

-Delete the Documents/1C SoftClub/Cliffs of Dover folder (save your ini files before doing it so you can put them back after testing)

-Disable SteamCloud for the game (this can sync wrong config files and make your game not work).

(I suspect you are talking about CloD in its original form, not Blitz. In which case I would suggest ditch old CloD and stick to Blitz, since it‘s usually more stable in current systems).

As Hat mentioned,, it seems you are having problems with the old game, not the updated BLITZ version.

As you should know, BLITZ is available for free to all those who own the original game... it is a free update on STEAM.

BLITZ has additional new aircraft and a multitude of improvements and fixes over the original. It is continually being updated... it will be updated with VR in 2022.

TF does not support the old CLIFFS OF DOVER game... we did not publish it, we had nothing to do with its original development, we picked development of the game engine after 1C abandoned CLIFFS. In our opinion, it has too many bugs and issues. CLIFFS can cause issues with BLITZ when it is installed, we recommend you uninstall it and focus on BLITZ.

BLITZ has all the aircraft which came with the original CLIFFS game as well as all the original campaigns etc.

You do not lose anything when you run BLITZ instead of CLIFFS.

A follow up to my October 13th post on Squaring CLOD away for hassle free use. At least for me. :cool:

For me and my system, Win10 64bit, AMD 5600x, EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 XC Ultra this is what works.

This is for those who have CTD and other procedure problems with CLOD/DWT normally or after an update applied through Steam. Obviously this may not be needed by everyone and it may not work for everyone, but it is a good starting point and it resolved my major procedure issues and random CTDs with my install.

1. First and foremost run laucher64.exe as an administrator. Run it in either WIN 8 or WIN 7 compatibility mode. I use WIN 8 compatibility mode.

2. After any update on Steam, clear the cppcrash folder(delete contents not the folder), delete the cache folder(CLOD will rebuild the folder and contents on next startup) found in the

your Windows install drive/users/(your name)/ documents/1c SoftClub/ il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder.

3. Shut Steam down and restart your computer.

4. If you use a monitor with144hz or higher refresh rate. Start CLOD/DWT and go into options and set your resolution to the one you normally use but with 60hz refresh rate. Start a mission and fly around in it a few minutes. Maybe you don't need to fly around, but that is what I do. Exit the mission and exit CLOD/DWT. Shut Steam down. I restart my computer once again. You may or may not want to restart your computer this time. Again, I do.

5. Delete the cache folder one more time in the your Windows install drive/users/(your name)/ documents/1c SoftClub/ il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder.

6. If you use a monitor with144hz or higher refresh rate. Start CLOD/DWT and go into options and set your resolution to the one you normally use with the refresh rate you normally use. In my case 240hz and fly a mission.

You should be good to go. ?

This process has worked for me in 2 updates now and at least one hotfix.

A couple other observations I have learned concerning updates and Custom Campaigns.

1. In my install, in the

E:\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz\parts\bob\mission\campaign folder

there should be nothing. Custom Campaigns are no longer stored here nor should custom campaigns be installed here.

2. Most All of the 3rd party Custom Campaigns should reside in

your Windows install drive\Users\(your name)Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\mission\campaign\custom

Exceptions in my install. Desastersoft, Hun In The Sun, TEF Campaign, Wurzelbrunft. These require a different install procedure.

3. Keep a backup copy of your campaigns.ini file preferably outside your CLOD/DWT install because during an update or file integrity check this file will be replaced with the stock file that does not contain your custom entries. You will need to copy your custom campaigns.ini file over the stock one installed during the update to be able to see your custom campaigns in CLOD/DWT again.

A Question I still have.

1. Do paintschemes only reside in the

C:\Users\Blade\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\PaintSchemes\Skins

folder?

I still have skins in my

E:\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz\PaintSchemes\Skins

folder. I am not sure if I can safely delete the ones in my Steam folder?

I am just posting this in the hopes that it might help pull together some of the know possibilities to remedy CTDs as of late with CLOD/DWT. If I have made any mistakes please let me know and I will amend this post.

You have a very large number of 3rd party programs running in the background.

Any of these has the potential to cause crashes.

For example, what are these?... and is it necessary they are running when you play the game?

Known Crash or failure to launch causes:

- Anti-Virus deleting parts of the install... disable or turn off completely AV prior to install. Install game as Admin.

- Anti-Virus blocking launcher64.exe... put exceptions for launcher into Windows Defender and/or any other AV program you are running.

- Latest version of Microsoft Net Framework not installed... Install.

- If you are running a super wide screen monitor, maximum refresh rate should be 60 hz.

- Win10 Controlled Folder Access is turned on. It blocks Launcher. Turn it off or add exception for CoD BLITZ.

- Steering Wheels: Logitech G27 MoMo, etc. Unplug the wheel, or unplug, then start the game, plug in the wheel immediately after game launch.

- Steam Overlay running: Turn it off.

- MSI Afterburner if running prior to game launch will sometimes cause crashes... can be started after launch.

- Check to see what 3rd party programs you are running.... turn them off... game has issues with 3rd Party, especially 32 bit programs.

- Multi Screen management programs. Any program which manages multiple screens can cause a crash... turn off.

- MS Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable not installed on laptop... install.

- Gaijin.net from War Thunder. If installed, causes crashes. If you got War Thunder outside of Steam this is installed. If you installed WT through Steam, it is not.

I'm running and AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX and 3080 GPU.

Reading your post, I have no idea what all those things are and no idea how I can close them all? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a former PS5 gamer and only last september moved into the world of PC Gaming so all this sort of thing is new to me.

I do have a wide screen though (3440x1440) which was set in game to 100mhz. Should I be reducing that down to 60mhz or is mine not classed as "super wide"?

Not sure if it is worth mentioning but it doesn't crash *every* time I load in, it's about 1 in 3 or 4 times that it does. All my graphics drivers are up to date.

You use Task Manager.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Delete and it will come up.

Then you can use 'End Task' to shut down various programs.

Make sure you don't shut down anything which relates to Windows or what is actually needed to run the game.

So for example, Steam does need to be running... but not the Steam Overlay.

Your could try resetting your screen refresh rate to 60 hz, but may not be necessary.

Your could try resetting your screen refresh rate to 60 hz, but may not be necessary.

I stopped all of those background tasks and also reduced to 60mhz and still it is crashing.

Did you go into Steam and turn off the Steam Overlay in Steam settings?

2nd: Do you have your CLIFFS OF DOVER log recording?

If you can enable your logfile... see the configs file and place '1' need to logging.'

Then play the game till it crashes and send the logfile to me.

I to am having problems running CLOD Blitz. I installed as windows admin, set compatablity to windows 7, turned off AV when downloading and installing, latest driver etc.

It starts loading then stops.

MSI Afterburner on.... switch off prior to launch... you can turn it back on after launch. As mentioned in this thread:

Also, do you have the Steam Overlay on? This should be off.

You are running a ton of programs in the background which are unnecessary to the game... for example, Skype... DipAwayMode????... consider turning them off.

Regarding Anti-Virus... first I would recommend you put in an exception in your Windows Defender for both the launch .exe for CLIFFS as well as the entire CLIFFS install folder. Second, do you have a 3rd party AV running in addition to Windows Defender? I see something called: "SecurityHealth'. What is this? Make sure it is not blocking your launch.

If you are still having problems... I would enable your logfile and see what it displays after a crash.

I can't even find Skype on my computer. WTF?!

Any clue how I get rid of this stuff? I went through all the apps.

I would just like to add that I have a Simucube direct drive steering wheel attached that was causing the game to be unable to launch and produce any sort of log.

A can connect all other usb peripherals including g25 pedals, thrustmaster th8 shifter, logitech mouse and keyboard along with my vkb flight gear and the game launches fine.

Thought it might be of help adding it to the list of devices not liked by the game.

Yes, any steering wheel types will mess with the game launch. I will add this to the list. ?

I've had this game since before Blitz, since Blitz I have less than 2 hours in game because that's all I could ever get to play. Why is this such an issue? I've never had any other game have this many issues or problems just to run it.

Also disable steam input for controllers (as well as steam overlay, do both) it's in the "Getting Started And Troubleshooting Guide.pdf" (found in game install "manuals" folder

If you have not already. (This really messes with blitz)

I also found on windows 10 , using win 7 compatibility mode fixes freezing/lag starting sp missions (ands loading/starting MP servers), esp when using higher than 60hz monitors. I have 1440p and 165hz monitor , and this made big dif for me.

You obviously did not read my post and just skimmed over it. But that is okay.. BTW None of that works.

real question is why do I need to do any of this to start with in the first place? Why is it such an issue just to get it to work that this is a common place for players? None of this should need to be done at all. It should just work right after install, just like every other game does. Not jumping thru 50 hoops and doing this and that just to make it work maybe. No other game I have makes me go thru this or anything remotely close to this.

I read your post, but its not the only post here and you are not the only person reading this for help. (what i posted does work, it's just not your particular issue)

and to answer your question, the game was written for an older version of windows much of the code base is still the same so it doesn't play nice with later windows versions...

Through trial and error Blitz might eventually begin to function on your machine and you might still not know why Blitz finally threw in the towel and began to run. Win7 compatibility mode helped in my situation but I suspect that there might also be undocumented code changes from time to time that also make a difference. There were times when Blitz would randomly freeze when attempting starting a track replay requiring Task Manager to close it. That no longer happens for me. Blitz is what it is.

3rd Party programs can be an issue if you are running them in tandem with the game. Especially 32 bit programs.

Please read the initial post in this thread, follow the directions and post your results.

That will give us a chance to see what you are running on your PC.

Can I also confirm you are not running the original version of CLIFFS?... you should only be running BLITZ. Uninstall original CLIFFS from STEAM prior to running game and then be sure to delete the cache folder in Documents/1C SoftClub/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover/

Hey, i'm having compatibility issues, i've tried to uninstall, run as admin, install with AV disabled, deleted 1c folder, Exceptions for steamapps, the folder (il-2 sturmovik cliffs ofdover blitz) the launcher (launcher 64) read the common sources of launcher crashes like thrice,, unplugged EVERYTHING BUT my mouse and keyboard, uninstalled War Thunder, and when reinstalling i have erased every. single. vestige. of. this. game.

I am sorry to hear you have not found the solution. There is nothing I would like more than to see players enjoy the game without issues.

I understand you are frustrated, but the facts are, in ALL the examples we at TF have encountered, there are only two main reasons why the game fails to launch.

1) The player has a third party program installed which is blocking the launch.

2) The player has not updated his Microsoft programs.

There is nothing which will cause the BLITZ/TOBRUK program itself to fail to launch... it functions correctly unless one of the above two issues are present.

From what you have said and what I see in your program list, your problem is most likely a result of a third party programs interfering with the game's launch.

You have a LOT of third party programs running in the background. Which one is causing the problem is the difficult point.

I do not have the time to go through every one of your listed programs running and ask you about them.

What I will say is that Anti-Virus is by far the most common cause of the game not running correctly.

You mention you put in an exception for the game in the AV... but did you also shut down your AV when installing... and did you install the game as an Administrator?

So that means, uninstall the game from STEAM, delete any folders... then turn off your AV and install again. (Please follow the 'Getting Started and Troubleshooting Guide' step by instructions for installing) Then start the AV add the exception for the entire game folder and the .exe, then finally launch the game.

2nd most common issue is the player is enabing the STEAM overlay, enabling STEAM cloud, allowing the use of STEAM to control the players joystick/controller. (should be disabled), etc. STEAM should not be enabled for anything other than updates and verifying files.

Couple programs which I will mention:

You have a RealTek Audio driver enabled.... not sure if you have an independent audio card or built in card. Make sure the Audio drivers are up to date. They can also interfere.

As I said before, you have Lavasoft running in the background... several instances... shut them all down.

Again, you have a ton of programs running in the background which are unnecessary... I would recommend when you install programs... they only start up when you start the program... not when you start your computer.... they are just an unnecessary load on your CPU and clutter up your system)

Most importantly, you have third party anti-virus, anti-malware programs running... these need to be shut down when you install the game... and preferably when the game is running as they will often block launches.

Couple programs:

RZTHXHelper.exe (both this and all below are cr*p third party programs which supposedly removes malware, cleans registry, etc... but which are worse than the standard Windows system clean up... shut the Mofo's down! or better yet uninstall. All could f*ck up your install or launch)

As mentioned, if you have a third party program... don't set it to auto start when your PC starts... but only when you actually want to use and start it up yourself.
