►Introducing the VPC WarBRD

VPC and BRD are pleased to announce our first collaboration project - the VPC WarBRD!

WARBRDAnnouncement_02.png

The VPC WarBRD is the newest generation of desktop flightsticks perfect for piloting any warbird to it’s highest potential! Featuring the latest iteration of BRD’s world famous compact, all metal, dual-cam mechanics and VPC’s own highly versatile electronic systems.

Being equipped with the same connector standard and electronics as the VPC MongoosT-50®, ensures the VPC WarBRD will have complete compatibility with VPC’s existing and future grips without requiring any adapters or modifications.

The VPC WarBRD will be positioned below the VPC MongoosT-50® in the VPC product lineup to become the ultimate desktop joystick at an affordable price.

Targeted for a release in Q1 2018, more information including a full overview of the VPC WarBRD features, specifications and pricing will be released in the near future.

Stay tuned for more news on the VPC WarBRD!

So a throttle and now this in Q1 2018, any idea which will be first for the mfg process? Hoping for a throttle myself.

Oh dear, I'm waiting impatiently for that T-50CM to come and already know I will be getting throttle. And now this. You guys are fantastic!

I assume this is compatible with the T-50 grip. In this case it sounds about perfect for me.

Some questions:

1. Since this is a desktop joystick are there any mounting holes for fixing it on a stand?

2. Who will be responsible for warranty - Baur or Virpil?

3. Will this be availabel at european resellers (like the T-50)?

Ooooh, a compelling piece of hardware.

A great option for those limited to desk top use only. I will say though once you go center mount with extensions, it will spoil you. The stock Virpil base is great for that.

1. No mounting holes at the front side like the MT-50, however we'll have an adapter plate for mounting to the VPC Desk Mount. If you're going that route though, the MT-50 would be a better choice!

2. VPC!

3. Like all of our products, the VPC WarBRD will be available from our official webstore and our official amazon store!

Pretty much at the same time - we're ramping things up!

Durability Testing of the VPC WarBRD Mechanism

The tests emulated the forces the mechanism will experience in normal use - although obviously exaggerated! The tests simulated what could be considered as 5 years of hard 8-hour day usage.

Baur was sent this sample after the tests and he concluded that the unit was in fact slightly better due to the fact the contact points were slightly more polished after the intense tests! He was very pleased with the results and quality of the construction and encountered no unpleasant wear compared to the untested samples.

It's worth noting that we do not actually recommend using the VPC WarBRD with extensions - this was done in the tests to exaggerate the load.

Do you test for twisting forces?

Obviously the gimbals are designed to move in the lateral X & Y axes and from the video this is what you appear to have tested.  The U2 NXT gimbals on my Cougar (which are otherwise fantastic) are beginning to develop some minor play in the 'Z' plane, so I am interested in understanding how resistant the Virpil design is to unintended twisting of the stick during use.

What is the maximum stick deflection for WarBRD base?

Can you post deflection force graphs for WarBRD base - for both cams: Soft Center and No Center - (like those for MongoosT-50 base)?

Posted

Will there be a dedicated WarBRD stick in the future? Maybe something WW2 style?

Yes, we will give full information later. It's an interesting stick. And he, too, with a twist like Delta.

Lemme butt in - not necessarily sticks buuuut:

MongoosT50 but with analog stick and rumble motors installed (think Nintendo Switch Joycons or Oculus Touch) - ButtKicker has proven to provide superb sensations without the need for FFB - but it's not ideal since it works via sound. Get that rumble going, make it right and there you go, a perfect stick with literally no competition whatsoever.

Independent twist adapter (to make dual Mongoos actually a viable option for space sim)

A Yoke with dampers on both axes, can have P38 grip for those extra karma points when Bodenplatte arrives. Also rumble, because why not?

Mix of joystick and a throttle. Think Microsoft Sidewinder Commander but mash it together with 3Dconnexion Space Navigator.

The question was in fact about what kind of grip.

For this "rumble" work correctly need an API/software like Gametrix JetSeat, for create an proper effect in game - what Bo'X series don't provide.

And very certainly - like FFB this "rubble" is covered by big names patents, requiring expensive license fees/royalties.

Something like the german kg 12-13 grips or the one used in the mig 15 would be great. A full metal version would be extreme.

kg 12-13 grips or the one used in the mig 15

They are all the same stick - with some cosmetic differences. :)

Problem in set a production line for this kind of grip is that most players are biased with their "too few buttons" - will have a little market for justify the investment.

Anyway you have option of get one by order from BRD (well, at least in the past ...) and Cheeb2006 (very small production), all compatible with VPC (and Warthog/Cougar) base.

When you ask for metal, you have to present a BIG price for a product :)

Since I have a CH FighterStick gathering dust in the cupboard, I'm wondering how much work would it be to install its grip to the WarBRD, or would it even be possible.

Edit: Seems it's possible. https://www.reddit.com/r/hotas/comments/7u8rnu/ch_fighterstick_grip_on_vpc_base_repost/

For DIY (almost) not is impossible.

All you need do to this conversion is available in Debolestis or Rely4 Shapeways/OSPark pages.

A friend donated me his F-22 stick project. Now I have to decide which is the least amount of work: replacing bad button switches in the F22 or cannibalize the shift register board from the F22 and connect the FighterStick to it :P

Posted (edited)

I have F-22PRo and FighteStick grips there, don't see much advantage* in use F-22PRO, will be need a mechanical adapter** in the same way and their HAT's and buttons are hard to press.

* But if this matter,  F-22PRO have 2 buttons more than FighterStick, 1 pinky lever and 2nd stage on trigger.

** Debolestis can draw the adapter needed for F-22PRO and upload for Shapeways - if need, talk with him in ED forum.

Both FighterStick and F22 need the adapter. Already been in contact with Debolestis. :) He's looking into the wiring of FighterStick to the F22 shift register board, as he's done the conversion once from FighterStick to FLCS shift register board, and the boards should be pretty much the same in FLCS and F22.

Edit: one advantage of using F22 is that the grip is pretty much a perfect fit for my hand, whereas the FighterStick grip is a bit too large.

How much was it?

I would hope they make a spade style grip, like the spitfire or russian style one day.

For now I'm sticking with the T-50 grip. I've emailed thrustmaster about the warthog grip and they want 175 dollars for it now....tisk tisk. So i'm holding off on getting a US style grip for now.

Right now I would be most interested in a Thrustmaster Cougar MFD Mount for the Virpil Desktop Mounts. Maybe make it so it can hold the Cougar MFDs or a tablet.

The T-50 is designed around the desktop mounts, but now the MFDs are hard to reach without attaching them to the deskmounts.

@-=NT=-Baur You do custom sticks like the one shown above?

@6./ZG76_Archie Did you really order one?!?! I want one too!! Holy *@#$ this looks amazing!

I am also curious about the twist play. I have a TM Warthog which I love to bits, but it's beginning to suffer some twist play from me wrenching it for two years haha!

Yep! Ordered the KG13 to fit my Virpil base, will do a write up on the ACG forum when it arrives. I could be wrong but I think Baur was the first one to make a copy of the KG13 for flight simming.

Besides (Cheeb2006) IL-2 "spade" linked above by Baur, are some guys making Spitfire "spade" - by order, e.g.

https://heritageflightsim.com/home/gallery/

https://79vraf.wordpress.com/author/seaf1refr47/

All compatible with Warthog/Cougar base, what means compatible with VirPil (VPC) base - use same connector.
