Trainee2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Sorry if this has been raised before, but the IL-2 manual says "you can take up control of the flight at any time and continue on your own" I'm sure this is something simple but I can't see how you do this ? I have the joystick (T.1600M) set up and functioning if flying single missions. Can you help please. Thanks Jim
Stig Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Is it from this manual https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/17572-il2-user-manual/ ? If so, p.45 has something about both single missions and campaign mode, but I don't see the text you quote being mentioned?
Wester Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 you can take up control of the flight at any time and continue on your own I completely lost to your question, I assume you are referring to free roaming on a mission, completely ignoring any objectives. Yes you can free roam but this is not an open world game, you only see what each mission has set up for you. It is possible to take up control of your flight at any time and fly wherever you want (on your own) within the limits of the map (when you reach the maps borders you are forcefully turned around).
1CGS LukeFF Posted November 29, 2017 1CGS Posted November 29, 2017 I am at a loss here as well, and I wrote the darn manual! @Trainee2017, are you referring to the CloD manual, perhaps?
Trainee2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Author Posted November 30, 2017 the game is il-2 1946, but the manual i refer to (88 pages) is from an original version of the game. Page 45 says you can take control of the training flights at any time so that you can learn to take off ,land etc.
Stig Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 I haven't fired up IL- 2 '46 in years, but I do happen to have the original manual that you refer to. As I read it, the Training missions are flown by the Autopilot, so I would think that to take control, you need to toggle off Autopilot. The default key to toggle Autopilot is A.
Trainee2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Author Posted December 1, 2017 That makes sense but I just tried key A but it had no effect. I'm really keen to learn but this is very strange. Many years ago I had the original game for a short while, and i do remember that taking control was very simple but I can't recall how you did it.
Stig Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Ok, I found my copy of IL2 '46 in some remote corner of an external backup hardisk and gave it a try. You are right, nothing happens when you press A to toggle Autopilot. It looks to me that the Training in '46 are just tracks or videos explaining how to fly, etc. The manual is from the original game where their were training missions that you flew and could take control at any time....I guess.
Trainee2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Author Posted December 1, 2017 that's a shame as i found that facility very helpful in learning to take off, land etc. Thank you so much for looking for me.
