Nibbio Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 RoF Planes and terrains have been merged into the new engine and flying in BoS... also Zeppelins! Yeah, Zeppelins in VR would be just spectacular 2
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Merchandising! Where all the real money is made! - yogurt, spaceballs... ... I want a hat... 1
=SqSq=switch201 Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 I have never played rise of flight, and I don't plan on doing so because I can no longer play flight sims outside of VR (I am spoiled I know), but if they made it VR compatible, I would probably just buy all the planes instantly. I just added them all to my cart just now, and it's really not too expensive considering how many planes you get
TAAC_Blue Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 I would hold off on purchasing all the RoF aircraft unless you want to support the devs. IF RoF is getting brought over to the upgraded engine, I would think we will have to repurchase the aircraft they recreate.
BlueHeron Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 I'd be willing to do that. WWI dog fighting is much more close and personal, this would be incredible in VR! 3
TAAC_Blue Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 I own all but three I think, plus weapons mods. I would buy everything again for RoF 2. 3
CanadaOne Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Merchandising! Where all the real money is made! - yogurt, spaceballs... ... I want a hat... I want an official IL2 "Cosmetic Nonsense Virtual Store", as one of our esteemed fellow forum members named it. Bobble heads & window fringe for me, and a hat for you.
PanzerPajamas Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 But you are in BC???? Formally of said nation.
SeaW0lf Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 I would buy everything again for RoF 2. I would as well, and the map can be shared with Europe 1943/45, which would have a very strong sale I imagine. In a decade (or less) they can have both wars and several theaters. Assuming they will update the engine down the road. 1
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 (edited) I think we're going to finally get Kerbal testing pilots added in for physics... Edited November 16, 2017 by 71st_AH_Mastiff
coconut Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 I haven’t been interested in rof but if it was ported to bos engine and worked with vr, I would get it. The i16 gives the most sensations with its open cockpit, wwi planes are a perfect match for vr. 5
=AGW=Master Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 I own all but three I think, plus weapons mods. I would buy everything again for RoF 2. *sigh* pulls out wallet. but in all seriousness I dont think they are going to bring RoF forward like that. Jason has said a few times that its not really on their current plans, but we can dream. I probably bought and gifted 30+ copies and a ton of planes trying to get my gaming group playing that game. Was easily the best money i ever spent. Managed to get about 8 of them playing and weve been playing games every friday since. Best 8 years of my life lol. 3
Jade_Monkey Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 I doubt it has anything to do with ROF, but the fact that they posted on the ROF forum makes me think it's a larger company-wide announcement and not just pertaining to IL2. I want to think it's a positive announcement, I doubt anyone makes an announcement like this to just deliver the bad news. 1
Mitthrawnuruodo Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Have there been such 'Major Announcements' before? I must admit I do not know what to expect. Of course, even a firm release date or new aircraft announcement is 'major', but could it be something bigger?

Of course, even a firm release date or new aircraft announcement is 'major', but could it be something bigger? I have not followed this game all that closely, but it could just be that they're putting more effort into hyping up (marketing, if you will) their stuff than they previously have. Since it mentions the "future" I'm assuming it's beyond Kuban. I'm expecting official Pacific theatre (unless they chose to go somewhere else) announcement, but I wouldn't rule out some other announcement entirely. Edited November 16, 2017 by Lombra
CanadaOne Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 (edited) Maybe Orbx will start making 3rd party maps for BOX. "Drool..." They are branching out from FSX. Edited November 17, 2017 by CanadaOne 1

Of course, even a firm release date or new aircraft announcement is 'major', but could it be something bigger? This is extremely similar to what was done before IL-2: Battle of Kuban and the 'Spirit of '46' plan was announced including the Rise of Flight forum announcement. Before that there were weeks and months of speculation on what would come next or if the series even had a future. Similarly we're having those same discussions now. I'm upbeat and optimistic that they have something interesting planned... be it what they had planned for originally or something a bit different. Recent dev updates and other comments suggest to me that the news coming is positive in nature. I just have no idea what exactly it will be until tomorrow morning. I went in-depth on my thoughts here BTW: https://stormbirds.blog/2017/11/15/speculating-on-il-2s-future/ 3
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 new Russian Bombers? Lend Lease B17G's?

ShamrockOneFive Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Also, Jason saying he will do a Q&A on saturday makes me think it cant be negative. That's another angle too. Also, the Facebook post came up as a Sponsored one. That means they paid money to make sure that it appeared on my Facebook newsfeed. You tend not to do that when you're about to close up shop or something like that. No, its definitely a big thing and whatever it is it means there will be a future. As always, your site is very well done, enjoyable, and appreciated. Cheers sir! I'm glad the site continues to be useful! 1
CanadaOne Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Cheers sir! I'm glad the site continues to be useful! Your recent article was a good read. The Battle of the Bulge theory, concerning bare metal aircraft, makes sense. No need to develop carriers and the assorted tech, and there will be no shortage of people wanting P47s and P51s (Me262?) at BOX quality. It's a guaranteed winner. 2
Mitthrawnuruodo Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Indeed, I think many people would love a western scenario with Me 262. Sadly, I suspect technical issues would hold back the strategic bombing aspect.
CanadaOne Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Bummer. Because a BOX B-17 would be awesome! But still, a few variants of the B-25 would be pretty sweet.
Mac_Messer Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Probably Africa/MTO in `42/`43. Midwar American and British planes w/ Luftwaffe adversaries is a win/win scenario. 1
Feathered_IV Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 “A joint group of Russian and US Special forces have successfully located and taken down Sigrun. AKA “Mr Bikechat”. His ample hide now decorates one wall in the lobby at 777Central...” 5
Rolling_Thunder Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Probably Africa/MTO in `42/`43. Midwar American and British planes w/ Luftwaffe adversaries is a win/win scenario. not if you're waiting for the zero
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 (edited) My honest guess is that they are funded for X number of expansions and we are looking at mid-war Pacific, as opposed to Okinawa, due to the community push back. The team has been a little hand to mouth on Kuban and Midway. I'm hoping they got a benefactor or an additional investment/revenue stream and they can map out two to four expansions (I do like that Battle of the Bulge idea but am pretty skeptical). Would be nice for the team to move forward with all of their skill and hard work but not needing to look over their shoulder for bean counters in the office every few weeks. I suspect it is just the Kuban final change list/demo - plus the missing AC - plus the Pacific roadmap and what to expect in the Midway release other than, well, Midway Island. If I was gonna hang it out, I'd say Enterprise and Akagi models first showing but that's hanging it WAY out there. Edit: As they are not in any way related, I tried to separate my above thoughts from my Feathered reply but it forces me to combine them. Sorry. “A joint group of Russian and US Special forces have successfully located and taken down Sigrun. AKA “Mr Bikechat”. His ample hide now decorates one wall in the lobby at 777Central...” Yes, I make sideways references to him on occasion as well. Ya gotta be an old hand round these parts to get that inside joke. Although, I suspect he would get an anonymous sea burial like Bin Laden as opposed to hanging his hide anywhere. Edited November 17, 2017 by II/JG17_HerrMurf 2
indiaciki Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Ok so then my guess: Battle of Midway officially announced with date set for pre-order with early access to follow. Next theatre to follow Midway either mentioned or announced, or at least a tentative roadmap based on success of Midway. Midway didn't have the F4U. I want my Corsair badly )))
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Great I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight.... and a lot of us are going to have a hole where f4 used to be
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 It's 17.11 already Not fair... I'm still stuck in the 16th of November.. damn you time travellers! 1
Gort Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 What no one has done yet, is 1950's - 1960's thermo nuclear war. So I could see B29's, progressing to B36, B47, B52 against Bisons, Bears and Badgers. It'll be the biggest thing since "War Games"... 1

Rjel Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 (edited) Wow! We have some folks here who dream very large dreams. Not a bad thing if investors are trying to judge enthusiasm for flight sims. More and more though, I think we will simply get an expanded Midway scenario. Either expandied in its initial release or as the following chapter in this saga. Edited November 17, 2017 by Rjel
indiaciki Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 (edited) I'm not interested in flying Wild Cats. I want a Corsair. Edited November 17, 2017 by indiaciki
itsmecamille Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Battle of Midway with support for direct to brain VR! But you can't disconnect. And it's DiD mode only. Good luck! Can I have a cookie now?
