With the new shadow tech I want to find the sweet spot between a good FPS and good looking graphics.

I play usually at high with HDR and SSAO unchecked but set the shadows to "high" my VRam melt like butter in the sun.(GTX 750 2 Gig)

New Graphics card will not arrive till end of September,so want to go a step back to medium. I like to know whats the exact difference between overall Medium -high settings?

Did I loose some Buildings & Textures in game,or did the texture quality goes down?

FPS are locked at 50

With high settings and shadows to medium I can maintain around 40-50FPS on WOL (50+ players) and in SP campaign around 40-35 with much Fireworks around me,but smooth gameplay most of the time.

The same with high shadows gave me 30 FPS on ground level (empty map) 50 FPs on +1000m alt. With lots of stutters and lags. Not testet online or SP but the results will be worse as well.

I haven't check the update yet, does the medium shadow in cockpit look better than before?

and what's ur cpu?

I think there is no obvious difference between balance and high option but balance may save a lot of performance

yup. shadows in cockpit looks much better than before.Even at medium. My CPU is a AMD FX 6400 OC to 4.1 GHZ. Thats not the problem. I have not enough VRam. ;)

Back to topic. Can somebody please explain the difference between overall Medium & High settings?

Nobody?

I searched in vain for specific info on graphics presets. Nobody knows, and apparently those who know won't tell...

I play in VR on low or balanced, doesn't seem anything important is really missing.

Over 300 views...at least one reply regarding the topic. Dont know why is so less interest in this.

I did some test flights on medium settings and something is missing but I cant tell exactly what it is. Some Textures seems more blurry,a few buildings and trees are not there?

AFAIK the differences in the graphical presets has never really been defined for us, so likely reason is we don't really know in order to explain.

Might be a good one to post in the Questions to Developers thread and see if you get any feedback from them on it.

I think roads and forests get rendered in shorter distance in balanced settings. Trees in towns are also drawn at shorter distance. Clouds seem to be in lower resolution also and can be bit pixelated sometimes. With low settings you loose details in plane textures, but I dont't know if that happens with high->balanced.

That's my impression too, however it doesn't seem enough to justify the huge boost in performance one gets when going from ultra or high to balanced or low, especially in VR

I have found that there's something between high and ultra that affects the "bubble of blur" with the trees - at Ultra, it's quite minimized and almost gone, whereas at High or less it reappears.  I wish I knew what it was and that it was separately selectable, as it's forcing me to fly with Ultra in VR despite the sizable performance hit (can't stand looking at that blur bubble).

This post from 2016 is giving some explanation and images about that:

I think the Low-Balanced-High-Ultra defines the radius of the detailed render sphere, but have not specific data for distances.

I also don´t know if this affects to distant planes or if this is only for the landscape.

I also could see that some shadows and textures are different, but I would really like to have a formal explanation from Devs about that. They really impact the performance in VR.
