Nic727 Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Hi, I finally got my new laptop with GTX 960m and installed Il2 BOS/BOM on it. It run pretty well on high settings. I tried a couple of stuffs like changing HDR, distant grass and put on ultra, but the last one I don't know what's the difference. So what's the difference between low, high and ultra? Thank you
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 distant grass??Various levels effect the distance that grass is rendered ..
Nic727 Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 distant grass?? Various levels effect the distance that grass is rendered .. No I want to know what's the difference between high and ultra. It looks very similar.
BornToBattle Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Had distant grass but with my 780ti I found some flickering with that setting on so I had to back it out. Problem solved.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 The difference between low, balanced, high, and ultra is the distance the detail of landscape resolves. The lower the setting the closer the proximity. Also shadows are affected at lower settings. Here are examples of the two extremes. Only change was the preset. Look at the forest from close toward the horizon. There is a clear demarcation in the tree detail in the low setting at this altitude. Low: Ultra: 3
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 There also seems to be a big difference in the Anti-aliasing. Look at the shadow of the aerial on the wing. Also subtle differences in the textures of the metal cockpit parts,
BuzzU Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 I run the highest settings, but I have to question if I should be now. I don't see a difference in those screenshots. If there is some I don't see them and consider them unimportant.
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 (edited) I run the highest settings, but I have to question if I should be now. I don't see a difference in those screenshots. If there is some I don't see them and consider them unimportant. If you look at the shadow of the aerial on the wing in 'Ultra' it has a straight edge. If you look at the same shadow in 'Low' it looks like the shadow of a timbersaw blade:-) The main difference though is the trees. In 'Low' you can see the nearby trees are detailed then suddenly as they approach the two small lakes the trees are replaced by a uniform green sludge like it is a swamp. In 'Ultra' the detailed trees keep going out to half way through the big loop in the river before becoming featureless. I could live with the trees not being drawn properly further out but the question is 'Does it also not draw ground objects unless they are very close?' If it does not then it makes it harder to see enemy targets and harder to seee your airfield until you are nearly over them. Edited September 18, 2017 by 56RAF_Roblex
BuzzU Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 Ok, I see the difference in the trees that you pointed it out. The jaggy shadow would seem to be more in the AA and AF settings no?
