this is one of the best simulators when it come to this. absolutely stunning flying low over rivers

Personally I was not aware of the facts you presented , all though they are quite obvious, but I am not known to notice such things. I see the improvements and cheer those. I have learned that my perspective of things is not the one reflecting by most people, I do not expect much to begin with, and everything better than expected get cheered by me, if anything there was a slight negative tone to your post in the beginning of it, all though in my opinion it was constructive and very polite. I think Jason overreacted.

If any lessons have to be learned from it, I would have turned your post upside down, start with the positive and end with constructive part.

Thanks LuseKofte, I'll keep that in mind :)

-snip

Also thanks, I now do know how to behave properly and I'll never bring up something again that can be dispatched by "it would need too many ressources". Lesson learned.

Let's now focus on improvements that need no ressources (such as your roads...?), and pc power at all.

Cheers

No, you are flat wrong...

...ignorant organism that is worth less than a used Q-tip...

...Seems like everything needs fixing except one. Community...

I think everything else is in good and capable hands of developers.

...Some of these filthy individuals are just riot starters that stur up other content users to think such a AAA game is flawed...

...Nothing wrong with JU52, a great plane.

Do u have one?

...lala dreamers who asked for it, thought it brought high sales and asked for another transport...

Now, go contribute with gifts my friend.

I'm on a mobile so I'll go thorough the points I want to address; I'm not selectively quoting out of context to try to make you look bad.

That said - chill your baps, m8. The insults are not necessary or appropriate. I understand that tempers can run high as we're all a disparate group united by a passion about aviation and we all want this sim to succeed, but going out of one's way to create division and antipathy won't be good for the long-term survival of this sim.

That's not just aimed at you either - some days this community is great, open, friendly and helpful, and there are a lot of knowledgeable and creative people here. Other days it's so vituperative and toxic that I have to take a break. I'm a long-time lurker if this forum so although I've got a low post history I've been here longer than my registration date would suggest.

Also, unsettling is if the toxic atmosphere wasn't limited to the player base... I've noticed several occasions where comments have been met by abrupt responses and rudeness from the people running the show. We're all invested in making this work, its disappointing if the brand ambassadors were contributing to a negative atmosphere where anything that could be taken as critical has to be caveated with fawning praise.

About the Ju52 - Yes, I have it and I'm a big fan. And it's why I keep asking for more non-combat aircraft to be included in the sim as it adds so much depth. Transport/recon/communications/light aircraft... I'd be happy to see them all and ultimately have a sim environment where fighters duel above bomber and strike aircraft while transports drop paratroopers on targets identified by recon as artillery spotters pick targets.

Combat flight simulators are a broad church... what you want is an environment where the combat guys can fight each other and hit targets for skill and adrenaline, the flight guys can enjoy the thrill of being airborne and the sim crew can dig into systems and processes modelled in detail. Il-2 provides a lot of that in spades, but more depth would add to more space for more people to participate even more fully.

The devs want to recreate the 'spirit of 46' and that gives me hope. But if you remember, there was much more to '46 than just stats and furballs.

And I own everything released, and through my own promotion of the game the only person I know with an interest in flight simming have also purchased first BoS, then BoM and now Kuban, along with all the premiums. Although the release of the BoK Spitfire in RAF colours helped that last one. So two Ju52 sales plus all content x2.

Like you say yourself I'd rather not go around boasting about it, but also don't make yourself out to be a martyr for gifting it while running around trashing everyone else.

TL;DR Il-2 is great, the community has ups and downs but we should all meet in the middle and respect difference of opinion. And open, free discussion should be encouraged and allowed without criticism being taken personally and jumped on.

JG4_Spermleak,

Let me also make comments that furnish me with taste of satisfaction.

Your current and past "negativity on purpose" shows that you are a nothing but a cimex, a parasite insect that only survives by sucking blood of a host.

Your claim that snarky and pedantic criticism aimed to improve the sim is equalvent to a cimex claiming its parasitic activity is to improve victim's immunity.

Your comment didnt hit any delicate topic. It is merely a pile of feces that attracts flies, maggots and other filthy disease contracting abominations - the likes of you.

Jason has just taken out the garbage to keep out other filthy organisms.

You want to contribute to the better future of this sim and do something that give you satisfaction? Go wash some dishes, earn some money and gift out BOM.

Damn, I'd hate to see what you're like when people disagree with you on things that matter.

At this point, I'm pretty sure that you're a kid with high-functioning autism, because I have high-functioning autism, and you're reminding me quite a bit of myself on this forum three years ago. I mean, the snark, the attitude, the use of big words and impressive-but-misused wordsmithing... oh yeah, that's giving me some embarrassing flashbacks, let me tell you.

If I were you, I'd stop with all this crap about calling people "disease contracting abominations", because you're going to look back at this when you're older, and think to yourself, "why was I such an idiot?". Trust me. I know.

Also, why not just call a Cimex what everyone else calls it - a Bed Bug? I don't go around telling people about how cute my two Canis lupus familiarises are, and how I used to have a pet Latrodectus hasseltii, and would really like to adopt a Gongylophis colubrinus one day.

But thanks for giving me a reason to look up the scientific names of a bunch of animals, I do appreciate that :)

They have no clue but they are "pretty sure". You need to study Maslow btw.

Btw, where i come from cimex is a commonly used terminology... maybe not where you come from. Stop your insult based on your tier of "needs".

Yikes...

This all went bad quickly. I guess I should've asked for P-39 pics instead of map pics...

You want to kill people based on what they think about a video game?

... as far as troll accounts go, this one actually had me fooled, good job.

Ok your point taken, i will not comment further here unless i see more [Edited] who pretend they are doing more good than bad.

There will be no dev diary 172 if no sales. Remember that.

No need for name calling.

Haha, thinking that a few negative forum posts will completely kill the game's sales... you've done a great job on this troll account. it's really quite masterful.

Seriously, this is better than Brittany Venti. You really had me going there.

Anyway, back on topic...

The map looks superb. The Moscow and Stalingrad maps had great detail, but the Kuban map is beautiful. I can't wait to be flying through those mountains

I'm sure sinned's several sophisticated posts did boost the sales of this sim significantly.

Does anyone know if BoS and BoM also have a 50m mesh like Kuban? Or does Kuban come with a new mesh density?

Cheers

Kuban map is beautiful (I know).
Don't forget we are supposed to fly/fight not go sightseeing over it.
To me it has a very good quality/performance ratio.

Hello mr recapitulate, there wont be a dev diary 175 if sales dont pick up if you dont notice.

Speaking of negativity on purpose. If I was a new player, these statements would be more likely to turn me off to the game than any minor criticisms about the map would.

Just like to thank the developers. Latest version has fixed the 2 fps I was experiencing. Can't wait to try the Spitfire tonight!

I've been coming back to these screen shots since they arrived and I'm still blown away by how good they are making things look.

I'm thinking back to when IL-2: Battle of Moscow got the map update and that really cemented the whole product for me. The Moscow map had been my favourite... as much as I thought Stalingrad looked good, Moscow looked better. This seems like the next evolution. The art and technical teams have really found a good connection here and I'm still drooling over the diversity of backdrops. While Stalingrad is somewhat uniform (though not completely... especially the summer version of the map) and Moscow differs mostly in vegetation, Kuban really has a whole bunch of different things going on.

Really going to have a great time flying (and fighting) over these terrains. So much so that it not looking like a 100% recreation of whatever location is not going to break the immersion in the slightest. This is very likely going to my my favoured playground in the near future!

I mused about it before but I'm incredibly curious to see what the spring/summer/autumn variances are going to look like here. I'm imagining that a fall version of this map with the blue waters and fall colours is going to be pretty incredible for sightseeing!

Especially in VR 8)

Flying around in my A20 or P-39 (when I'm flying red) and the new SP campaign! Soon looking forward!

Hmmm... nothing changes. I remember similar and regular exchanges on the old IL2 forums.

Has anyone yet seen an image of the overall map area? Whilst these screenshots of the terrain are lovely and I'm genuinely excited for what is on the way, they don't help with trying to work out exactly which area mission designers will be playing with once the map is released.

Posted

Thanks very much BlackSix - not sure how I missed that one.

Posted

Yep - Battle for the Cacusus.

It's going to be interesting placing waypoints for the AI and seeing how they handle flying in and out of those valleys, and how Attack Are commands etc are handled in that terrain.

I'd love to be starting to work that stuff out already - but alas I must wait.

I've got to be honest, my main thoughts were around where the front lines will be/were and where some of the key actions took place.

And where the Spitfires were based of course... Popovicheskaya/Slavyanskaya for 57 GIAP and Tikhoretskaya (I think) for 821 IAP  Source = http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/spit/

I have some nice maps that I can send you later Silk. Front lines during various periods.

I'm still looking for more mysel, but this is a good start.

The retreat from Kuban was well a well executed withdrawal under great pressure especially along the southern coast. After a great battle for Novorossihyk, many attempts by the Soviets to establish beachheads were contained or wiped out completely. Fierce fighting in and around Anapa(II.& III.JG 52 stationed here?) after the retreat to Siegfried checkpoint and abandoning the Large Gothic positions.

I should say they're OK maps, but the best I've found so far.

is it mandatory to have Battle of Kuban to play this map online?

Nope, you can fly in a server mission with this map as long as you have the planes featured in the mission. You won't be able to fly the map in single player though.
