FodderMonkey Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 I'm having graphics issues after update 4.601. I'm running a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950A, and everything was fine (for an older, slower machine) before the update, but afterward my visibility (render distance?) has dropped to almost nothing. Aircraft over 200m away are ghosts, and the ground has no texture. Visibility is pretty much zero.

Props Posted May 1, 2021 Posted May 1, 2021 Just a quick note: There have been a number of updates to my system this last week - Windows, IL-2, and Nvidia's latest driver. Yesterday morning I could not get better than 55 FPS on my PC in IL-2 where I usually experience 143-144 FPS on my 1440 monitor (PC specs below). After repeatedly restarting and fooling around, some web searches, etc. I finally rolled back the latest Nvidia driver and that fixed the issue immediately. I suspected the latest Windows update as there has been a lot mention on the web of FPS drops, but got no relief using the suggestions I found and reinstalled those updates with no issues. Just noting for Nvidia users. PC: AMD Ryzen 5800x on Asus B550-F mobo 32GB DDR 3200Mhz Patriot Viper Steel 3 NVMe SSDs on mobo (Seagate, Samsung, and Sabrent- one is in a PCIe 3 slot) EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra (undervolted) Asus 27" 1440p monitor Sunflower Leadex III 850W PSU Pretty powerful and stable setup for Ultra graphics settings in BoX so I knew it had to be something in one of the updates. Running fine now.

I have occasional stuttering events; IL2 runs fine, and then after a few minutes really slow, only for a while, and then all of a sudden it's normal again. Only with a few missions, and i think it's with Rheinland map home made mission stuff only. Other programs running at the same time work fine, and opening taskmanager while stuttering it looks like the i7s core 4 is far too busy. Can this be due a windows setting? It was with 4.506, and now in 4.601 it seems worse. Also i begin to think it's mission programming related, starts f.i. suddenly during a dog fight over Antwerp. But i experienced it with another Rheinland mission too. Attached mission is home made, and adapted partly with imported groups, as target practice stuff. Thanks for looking .... PS i will post here if i find out more. ADDED 1: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/283079/major-stuttering-with-all-games-rtx-2080/ ADDED2: Been running a pretty intensive mission on the Kuban map, with no stutter problems .. BUMP: Sofar i tried different drivers, 411.63 won't install any more (LTSC relaied, sinc update i think). Advice on a NVDIA forum was use 451,85. Stiil the same, tried different settings It is still only with the Rheinland map it seems. The mission posted above; after about 2minutes the game slows down, and stays that way. No MODS, fresh install same thing, deinstalled Geoforce Experience (again) also. Disabled the NVDIA Audio drivers as i have a small Stenberg USB interface. With the last hangup the overload was with core 3 instead of 4. PS been using the Kuban map quit a bit, and have no problems with that. Can it be that there are texture issues with Rheinland spring or summer? I also begin to think it might be related to the mission above and some Rheinland stuff, i'll test some other Rheinland IL2's QMB missions. ADDED 3; 03-may 2021: i reworked the whole mission, grouped a lot, checked integrity stuff, i don't know what fixed it, but the cause was this mission. Uploaded a seemingly OK one instead, version 2h. Though i had the (at least for a while) stutter thing also with a totally different Rheinland mission. OR because of the DIFFERENT 451,85 NVDIA drivers as was recommended on another game forum about stutters with 20 series cards ??? ADDED 4: working with another Rheinland mission: Spit-MkiXe Flanders Shootout JJ v2h.zip Edited May 3, 2021 by jollyjack

IckyATLAS Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 (edited) It seems that there is a Windows 10 issue with some of the latest KB updates updates that impacts FPS with Nvidia/AMD cards. Same with the Windows latest build 21H1. It can create important loss of frame rate, stuttering and various graphic issues. Nvidia has released a statement saying that it is better to come back to an earlier version. It impacts also some AMD cards. It is not clear what type of hardware configuration is impacted. It has a larger impact than only for gamers. Its not clear when these issues will be resolved. Edited May 6, 2021 by IckyATLAS

Or could be a problem with your install of Il-2. So don't panic yet, but if you can see if your card is overheating during play with Afterburner or a similar app that might be useful. When it happens you should get a crash dump and submit it in the thread in this forum about "FInding the cause of a random crash...", then the devs can analyze the crash dump and see what it triggering it. There are instructions in how to do that in the first post of the thread.

I think there are 22 3090 cards on Newegg's website as of today so saying 3090 alone doesn't help as this maybe a card specific issue and not all 3090's are equal. Hope you sort it out.

jokerBR Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 The black frame on the right side of your screen suggest that you have some kind of overlay or recording software running in the background? Hoss Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Is it on your C drive?, or on a seperate games drive?. If so I would delete and reinstall, turn off Firewall and antivirus, and try it again, make sure you let it install what it needs to. I keep mine on a games drive, once I have it all set up I copy that to my Dump Truck as a know good install, so if the game messes up, I can delete it and just copy the good install over to the games drive.
fubar_2_niner Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 @Rapax007 Couple of quick suggestions. Set your 'Target FPS' to 'Off'. Try the Nvidia Control panel settings in the screenshots. Also as Hoss said, if you haven't already get BoX off your c:\ drive if possible and out of program files. I am using Geforce drivers 471.22 and getting a constant 60 FPS in 4K, and 144 FPS not in 4K at 3840x2160 res. Hope this helps a little. Fube

=RAW=Orinoco Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Good morning all, I’m not sure if I am in the right place to post but I am having a consistent issue with IL-2 and streaming with OBS Studio. I have a good PC: Intel I9, 32gb RAM, 2080ti (no overclocking) and have had no issues playing IL-2 on ultra, as well as DCS,MSF and many more new games. I twitch stream when I can (shameless plug: https://www.twitch.tv/orinocoz ) I can play IL-2 for hours when not streaming but when I do stream, I get a hard crash with the blue screen of death saying KERNAL MODE HEAP CORRUPTION. When googling this failure, I am told to reinstall drivers which I have done many a time and even tried rolling back to previous drivers. The issue only started in January this year according to events manager. I can stream DCS, MSF all on ultra with no issues and I can play IL-2 without streaming fine but the two together I crash at odd times. Sometimes just as I’ve spawned, or it’ll be 45 mins into a flight while I’m cruising or the most irritating time is after a long hour of bombing and dogfighting and just as I’m about touch down at base it crashes. I can’t see a correlation to loads on the GPU to the crash and I have kept a close eye on heat and that’s not an issue either. I have tried many different things but to no success. Unfortunately, it’s putting me off IL-2 and actually pushing me to DCS because its more stable…. (I know, how ironic) If anyone has any advice or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks all Noco

jokerBR Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Hi Orinoco, heap corruption occurs when software tries to write to a location in memory outside boundaries. Yes, it can be the graphics driver, but it can also be any other software that you have running at the time - like for instance your streaming software. This can be driver related, or memory (hardware) related, or system related... it's one of the most difficult problems to track down and solve. I'm assuming you already tested your system with the "sfc /scannow" and "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" commands? Since it is only occurring when both processes (stream + IL2) are working, I would start to check the streaming software. Maybe trying with something else than OBS?

I have done the commands and each time they come back with no corruption detected which is good I guess but still no luck. I think im thrown by it because I only have this issue with IL-2, I have verified the files of il-2 to make sure nothings missing, im tempted to try a fresh install of il-2 but not sure that will solve anything. I am reluctant to change the streaming software due to the time it takes to set it all up, especially as it works for everything else. So far im left with a brick wall and my head! Cheers Noco

jokerBR Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 With latest nvidia drivers I have had a lot of issues, until I began to restart the driver prior gaming. I do this by using the restart64.exe program that comes with the CRU package ( the package is used to adjust some things on monitors and it is free, just google it ). This particular utility restarts the video driver without needing to reboot machine. Don't ask me why, it just works in my case. You may try it as well?
MajorMagee Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 To restart your graphics driver at any time, just press Win+Ctrl+Shift+B: the screen flickers, there's a beep, and everything is back to normal immediately. 1

Nice, didn't know this. Seems to work just as fine, and without the need of the utility (although I use the restart from command line inside a batch file that loads several other things, so it is still useful). MadMike32 Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 (edited) I'm having some severe performance issues with the new patch. I've literally lost 100fps for my given settings (from about 120fps to <20fps). It looks like my RAM usage has increased, but it still isn't using all 16GB I have available. Everything else looks normal. I have an Intel i5-8600K, GTX 1070, and 16GB of RAM, and I'm running on a single in 1080p, so this shouldn't be taxing my rig this hard. Edit: I updated my GeForce driver to be safe, and gained a whole 1fps. The issue definitely seems to lie with the GPU, although my RAM usage is also higher than it should be. Dagwoodyt Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 About a week ago I experienced this problem and it went on for several days. At first I thought it might be due to a bad 3080Ti undervolt . I am using a Valve Index. The problem eventually disappeared for no reason I can be sure of. Things I tried for a fix included a "clean" install of Nvidia 471.68. The Nvidia download menu seems a bit more confusing now so I made sure to download the appropriate version for the 3080Ti. I also disabled all OSD's for Afterburner Riva Tuner and other monitoring software I had installed. I conpletely uninstalled Riva Tuner. I also temporarily set the bios back to default settings but don't remember that doing that had any useful effect. I did not reinstall GB or do anything to the registry nor did I make any hardware changes.
