HIGHLY Recommended: MonsterTech Mounts for Your Stick/Throttle

Recommended Posts

Those of you who "fly at your desk" as opposed to a sim pit, take note of the MonsterTech table mounts: https://www.monstertech.de/en/product-category/table-mounts/ . You might not think so, but they truly make a  HUGE difference in control and stability of your setup.

I had been managing with a block of wood for my TMWH + extension, but when I recently upgraded to a VKB Gunfighter (and what an upgrade -- s some of you know, I am totally thrilled with the VKB Gunfighter), I wanted something better. So, a while back I ordered a table mount of custom dimensions for the VKB stick. Monstertech makes standard plates for the VKB Gunfighter, but I wanted something with a little extra displacement in both dimensions to allow for large grips and extensions, and also allow for different desk heights. I asked for vertical displacement (as measured from the the table top to the bottom of the VKB Gunfighter base) of 500 mm, and a horizontal displacement (as measured from the front of the vertical post to the front of the VKB base) of 210 mm. This was to accommodate the extension as well as the larger the MCG-Pro grip.

I received it a little while back, and thought I would post my impressions. In one word: EXCELLENT. I have to say that the design, workmanship, functioning, and handling are all truly, truly, truly, truly superb! A fitting companion to the VKB. And I was surprised at how much of a difference it made to the handling. I really did not expect that, as my previous base was stable enough (screwed down into a block of wood). I was expecting an advantage in flexibility in terms of height adjustment, but not much else. In fact, I discovered in addition to the flexibility in height, there was something much more natural about the mount play as well as stability: so much nicer in "feel" and, weirdly, it seemed like I had more control (though the latter, in hindsight, is probably attributable to the fine-tuning of height adjustment).

Yeah I have had one on order about 6 weeks for my Warthog setup, really looking forward to eventually getting it and giving it a try.

Also got the Gunfighter plate for it as well, and my Gunfighter extension kit is on the way to me.

Your setup looks great!

I also have a set of those mounts for the Warthog, though i still have to get a plate for the Gladiator now that i moved to that one. They are extremely sturdy and they don't wobble when installed, which was the most important point for me. I could basically lift the whole desk up with those mounts when they are attached to it.

But they are really heavy (especially when you add the weight of the Warthog throttle) and cumbersome, when you don't need to use them. It think it would been great to have some sort of quick disassembly method for easier storage for each strut.

BTW, if anybody is interested in a Warthog stick plate (standard silver), i would be willing to sell it, because i no need for it anymore.

A thumbs up from me for these mounts. Expensive certainly but great and you can shift them out of the way when needed.

As a plus, the Warthog joystick and throttle cables are long enough that extensions probably won’t be needed when th mount is used.

They are on my list, glad to hear you were satisfied with them.

First I'll get the VKB MCG and then the mounts :)

Now, who is making a good throttle?

Posted

Yes mine really worked out great for my Warthog when I was flying with it.

Now flying with the Virpil and their desk mount bracket which is good as well.

At least I will still be able to use the Monster Tech whenever I get my new MCG Pro grip for the Gunfighter I have , I look forward to trying it out as well.

I guess eventually I will settle on one stick setup though lol.

I've been having a look at this setup to possibly replace my current stand, which is nice but not really compatible with the throttles and joysticks I now have. How well would the floor stand work with a desk that has a pull-out keyboard tray?

I think he is asking more about something like this:

Luke? Yeah I think you're right.

What I meant was that the picture in the opening post of this thread by Bearfoot is the same picture on the product page for the long table stand I linked, which I found interesting.

Already ordered mine this week for my gladiator pro mkii

Just a pity that the only color available for the Gladiator is grey ....

Just "BnP" no, even if you use VPC Warthog throttle mounting plate:

https://virpil.by/en/shop/accessories/tmw-mounting-plate-throttle-vpc

Warthog throttle footprint - notice holes spacing: 110 x 258mm:

http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=64877&d=1334670526

Gladiator base footprint: holes spacing: 128 x 168mm.

http://ftp.vkb-sim.pro/Documentations/VKB-Sim_Gladiator_MkII.PDF

So you need make a new plate compatible with Gladiator base.

Thanks Sokol, I couldn't find the dimensions for the throttle adapter plate.

The prices are way too high for the VKB Black mamba mount. $130.00 for a piece of metal???? You got to be kidding me....

That's incredibly expensive!  I could really use one, but holy crap!

They are really nice, but yes pricey.

I have the extended mount on order for my Gunfighter Pro ( still waiting on an MCG Pro grip to be available though), so not sure which will get here first - the grip or the mount lol. Probably the mount as the grip availability for NA is now pushed to end of Feb.  Also have a Warthog throttle plate coming with it to use for my existing standard mount I used to use for the Warthog stick. Already have the Gunfighter plate for the new extended mount when it gets here.

The Monster Tech Mounts are highly adjustable and very easily to attach and detach from the desk.

Once all that is here, I am done with sticks for some time. Between the Virpil and VKB I should be good for a while.

Time to shift attention to throttles right?

Posted

Throttle time indeed!

I have to say the Virpil one has me the most excited. I dig the layout and button choices. I don't care much for the programmable lighting they wanted to add but it mught be nice once its there.

No kidding, yes I would be very enticed for the throttle!

Virpil seems to have gone a little quiet as of late, would be nice to get any updates - or bread crumbs...

I want this stupid thing so badly for my Gunfighter (to get away from my crappy wine box screwed into some planks) but jeez that's pricey for what it is, not to mention the $30 allen wrench set you're supposed to buy separately (I have enough allen wrenches but swear they're never the right size for anything...)

No kidding.

I got the VPC T50 stick. I had to make two trips to the hardware store to get the right allen keys despite having one of those sets with 10 of them already.

I learnt that the US uses fractions of inches instead of mm for that too, and they are close but actually not compatible...

Definitely have to have a good set of metric allen wrenches for these imported sticks!

I plan on picking up a t50 mongoos shortly so I've been on the mission of the best way to mount this puppy to my annoying awkward thick desk. Ordering these monster mounts are definitely the easy route and Im sure are fantastic, ready to go, no fuss. For me in Canada though?...$225.oo is just too steep. It not the money really but the principle, Id feel lazy and guilty buying these especially since they are so straight forward in design.   Since I love tinkering and the research of "kitchen table' projects like this I took it upon myself to see exactly how and what went into making these. I found I can order the aluminum extrusion pre-cut which makes it easy,  a few specialized nuts and standard bolts and plastic end caps from the same place(s) (CDN or US) , the vice clamp and 4mm aluminum plate from ebay and Im good to go. I found the cost to be roughly 1/2, plus time and a few very basic tools I already have. =)

But hey, by all means support these guys and their cool piece of kit, I just like the challenge and satisfaction of figuring out how to make things like this myself.

Finally placed my order for a setup yesterday! Going to be nice to finally replace the rig I've been using for well over a decade.

So, WTF is with Monstertech not sending any instructions with their stands? I'm sitting on here on my floor with a pile of bolts and not a bloody clue how any of this stuff goes together. Been trying to watch some of their videos, but it's all in German.

Help, anyone?

Odd,  pretty sure mine came with paper instructions. If your still struggling when I get online in my evening,  I can see if I can find them (might be thrown out)  and or take some close up photos of my assembled one.

Edit: one better

PDF version help?

BTW, I really like the build quality of this stand. Thick, solid steel with a nice matte finish. Will post some pics and more detailed impressions once I finish setting it all up.

Yeah, I think my wooden desk would give way well before the stand ever would.

I had to mount the base right at the lowest possible level to have the stick at the right height to match position in VR.
