6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 (edited) So, Dovetail has released Early Access for Flight Sim World. Being a Train Simmer as well I own their Train Simulator Series and see Dovetail as a Competent but not Perfect Content Producer. I have owned FSX Acceleration/Professional, P3D and the Steam Edition and really lost interest after getting Il-2. The Combination of the Physics Engine and Smooth Running and Flight Dynamics drew me away from them. X-Plane has always disappointed me. As far as I've heard Flight Sim World is based on FSX, the Screenshots confirm this. I really only know that it is 64 bit. I hope that Flight Dynamics were improved, based on Accu Sim, for Improved Weather Modelling especially concerning Vertical Air Movement in Mountains as well as Thermals based on Cumulus X. And Sounds need to be good. So if anybody knows more, I'll gladly listen. Edited May 18, 2017 by 6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann
Flitgun Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 My time spent in FS9 and FSX was all about learning navigation, instrument flying, flight planning, flight computers, modern airliners, watching the gorgeous scenery go by and all the pretty night time airport and cockpit lights. I had always considered the flight model 'more than adequate' for the way I used the sim. I realise I am not answering your question, and I admit I don't know the answer (I have not used FSW), but I believe it is highly likely that FSW will run in the same vein as previous Microsoft releases. I'm sure there are improvements from past releases, but I think aerobatic pilots will be disappointed.

Trooper117 Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 It's in early access... so the game is not finished, complete etc, so of course, the usual comments and ranters over at steam are giving it a hard time. The more observant users with more than 2 brain cells understand what early access means, so we are taking it for what it is at this stage of the game. I think it's safe to say that it's better graphically than FSX, but it is still early days. I will wait a few months before I can give a positive review on what Dovetail has achieved.
6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted May 19, 2017 Author Posted May 19, 2017 (edited) I'm just really hoping that they adopt some of Add-On Software Features as Standard, mainly the Accu-Sim Physics and Thermal/Cloud Modelling of Cumulus X, proper Winch and Aerotow Modelling. I would just love to fly Glider Championships online. The Software is all there and ready to use. Edited May 19, 2017 by 6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann 1

6./ZG26_5tuka Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 (edited) Not a great fan of civil flight sims anymore but I'm very interestet to see one come up with a decent glider simulation. From what I've seen FSW is still far away from reaching that goal but who knows what developments might come in future (there's still many secondary issues like ugly terrain and lack of realistic thermal modeling). Aerofly looks most promising so far but their progress is going more towards airliners. The limited choice in scenery and airstarts are also real bummers. X plane can't even get the ASK21 properly modeled so I have no expectations for them. Edited May 19, 2017 by 6./ZG26_5tuka 1
Guest deleted@50488 Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 (edited) Forget X-Plane.... :-/ Regarding soaring simulation, I started with SFS2, then 3.0, hopped a lot for SFS 4... Then I moved to SilentWings which was very good and ahead of it's time, and was based on a very interesting set of algorithms for thermal as well as orographic ( even wave ) lift generation that even took into account land cover and satellite image analysis, and finally to Condorsoaring, which I still find the best around - I hope for version 2.0 to be released... With FSX and P3D I also used CumulusX! OTOH DTG FSW is looking really promissing - I really like it and am willing to support it. Together with IL.2 Battle of... and ELITE IFR, these are the only flight simulators I presently use. Edited May 19, 2017 by jcomm
Lusekofte Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 (edited) X plane 10 is after DCS the only one resembling Helicopter simulator. So XP is not all . I hope it sells, and become a success, this new simulator. Maybe competition make they better Edited May 19, 2017 by 216th_LuseKofte

But for that I do prefer DCS's UH-1H and Mi-8 over anything ever released for XP9, 10, 11 in the heicopter section... Edited May 19, 2017 by jcomm
