Game version 2.010 discussion: IL-2-43, New graphics features

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Graphic quality, clouds and maps become impressive on my 34 inch 3840x2160 display. I set the landscape filtering to SHARP.

I have no slowdown or stuttering at all. I suppose with Core I7 Extreme 6 core CPU running at 4Ghz with 24 GB of very fast RAM and an Asus GTX 1080Ti board, it is normal that I see no degradation  .

But there is a BUT. The two planes mentioned show no rear mirrors at all. I have selected in the graphic settings the Mirrors in top quality mode but I see Nothing. Is there a key command to display the mirrors or have them off.

I have also the same issue with bomblets. At 500 meters and over it seems they do not explode (nothing can be seen). Under 300 meters they do.

Have you enabled them as a modification in the P-40/Yak-1b mod menu?

This is just a guess but it might be a safety feature: In case you need to drop them before a forced landing you go above 300m and drop the bomblets. Could ofcourse also be an engine limitation.

Reading the developement diary about the Ptab, I guess it's a limitation inorder to keep FPS impact within limits.

No I didn't. Thanks for the tip. Now is all fine. Excellent quality of the image in the mirror.

One little bug however. I tried to see how would the sun reflect in the mirror. It reflects as a white circle with some grey bands. There is no sun glare, shining effect like when you look at the sun straight on.

This means that if an enemy fighter is behind you in the sun you can see him very well. In reality it would not be seen as you would be blinded by the sun glare in your mirror.

Maybe some improvement for a future version. ;)

Hello,

Just updated to 2.010. Sadly the start up screen graphic (the hangar animation) has lots of noise now. Big colored blocks are mixing with the usual graphics. The in game gun tracers or smoke trails really look like confetti. The cockpit and the landscape look normal though.

I didn't change any settings since the 2.009  update, which worked fine.

Imac i7 4.0 R395x Bootcamp Windows 10

Any ideas to correct this? Thanks in advance.

Update your graphic card driver

Posted (edited)

I already use the latest  AMD Boot Camp driver.

15.301.2101 etc.

Manually updating by downloading the latest Windows 10 driver form the AMD site results in the following Set Up message:

"Error 173- AMD installer Cannot Continue Since AMD Graphics Hardware Was Not Found"

A weird message because the AMD Auto Detect function does recognize and describe my AMD GPU accurately.

If indeed it's a driver issue, it  looks like update 2.010 rendered the game unplayable for me and probably for all other Boot Camp users. :(

Tested last night and everything goes fine. Only one question: the mirror in the Yak-1b was really placed that way? Because it covers an important portion of the sky in the upper part of the windshield. It is nice, but I had to disable it for that reason.

Great update with all the new features but...I have had a very noticeable drop in FPS ( esp when smoke or explosions are present, but other times as well) from 40 to a slide show.I had been operating quite smoothly with" Ultra" settings but no longer , even dropping to" High" give minimal relief.Drop is even more noticeable with "Mirrors" on, of course this is to be expected.I am going to have a major PC upgrade ( I haven't had to do any upgrades for about two years so you can imagine I need to now,)in July along with some sort of VR addition ( haven't decided which one yet,) but in the meantime has anyone got a simple solution? Thanks! :salute:

Very nice update, again!

The anistrophic filter and new tree shadows makes a huge difference, especially in VR :) . I believe a small performance boost came with the update, too.

Sadly I have two problems with the update:

1. I cannot play missions now, because the airfield icons in the campaign screen are gone   . Has anyone experienced this, too?

2. Cockpit shadows are pixelated/aliased after the update.

Nonetheless I am very happy with the last updates and feel development is on the right track :salute: .

All new AMD drivers have the date 04.05.2017. If your driver doesn't have this date, it most propably does not include the fix needed.

2.009 + various nvidia enhancements (lowering fps) + grass_distance = 600.00000 in startup.cfg (also lowering fps):

  • 1000m, beginning quick mission: 100-120fps
  • low level flight over forest: 70-80fps
  • GUI on/off has some effect on fps
  • no stutter at all

2.010:

  • 1000m, beginning quick mission: 80fps
  • low level flight over forest: 55-60fps
  • GUI on/off has no effect on fps
  • occasional stuttering

Both ultra x4 settings, Stalingrad Summer map, no VR, no mirrors.
Driver reinstalled.

Edit: clouds OFF: + 15~40 FPS. It seems they are the main FPS limiter.

I have had nearly identical experience, please see my post regarding SLI

I am now back to hopefully playing it at ULTRA and FPS I am used to, but had to turn down the distance to normal (had it at 3x before)

Heavy stuttering after updating to 2.010, solution was to update my nvidia driver.

After nvidia driver update there was occasional heavy to slight stuttering, so I had to reduce my graphic settings from Ultra to High (GTX 1060 6GB @ intel i5-6400 with 16GB Ram), what fixed the stuttering.

Strange AI-beavior after update to 2.010: The AI-Compangnions in BOS campaings don't want to fight and just flight there circles around the action point although the mission targets (bombers, il-2 ...) are in sight. They even ignore support and attack commands (AltLeft+5 and AltLeft+1). Very strange.

Excellent!!! There are no more icons and square brackets appearing on the Expert difficulty mode!!!
The improvements in physics and simulator graphics were excellent !!!
Congratulations for the 2010 update !!!

I used to be running two GTX 1070 cards in SLI, but performance got really bad after the 2.009 update.  My solution was to physically remove one of the cards and run singly.  I got okay performance.  Now, after the 2.010 update, my performance on a single card is down again, and since there are reported fixes to SLI, I want to run SLI again.  But since Nvidia has never released a driver with DX11 Compatibility bits, how is this going to work?   Han has reported that SLI will now grant signifigant performance improvements so long as we are not bottlenecked by the CPU, which I am not.  But how to get it working without doing anything inside Nvidia Control Panel/Nvidia Inspector?  (From what I understand, simply checking the multi-gpu box in the BoS launcher is not enough to actually enable SLI)

Han, if you are using any improvised DX11 Compatibility bits, what are they?

Here I found an image of a Yak1-b mirror and I uploaded the mirror we have in game. The real one seems slightest little and thin that the mirror in the game. It appears to be placed in the edge of the cockpit frontal frame. I wonder if its only my perception or if someone else thinks the same.

I'm sure there were variations over time and quality of both factory installations and field mods.

Thanks for your reply Quax. The latest AMD Windows 10 driver for Boot Camp is dd 4/5/2016. So you mean the game is killed for all Mac users?

If possible could we have the option to enable/disable VR in the launcher?

It's kinda annoying to have to go into the game to disable/enable it and then have to restart the game to apply it.

Cheers,

Tom

:salute:

As a work around you could make a copy of the config file, edit it so that vr is on keep a copy of the one where it is set to off. Create a desktop shortcut to where the config file is and swap it out before launch depending on what u want

Here is another small issue. When running Moscow campaign missions, the wingmates stay all at the action point and do not come back to base.

Even when there are no more targets and mission is complete they just stay there circling. If I give a back to base order or whatever other order it has no effect.

I am still on some 25 - 35 FPS... I tryed to reinstall graphic driver, restart PC... In game i spend 30 minutes of trying some combinations... I must set High from Ultra, turn of mirrors and set terrain detail to normal :(

Nothing helps, it is still difference 10 FPS between FPS HIGHEST and NORMAL settings :(

Something is wrong :((

Try running without Vsync and turn off the HUD. That might give you a boost. Adding these mirrors takes up more memory so that might cause a slowdown on some machines.

Turn off "Distant landscape detail" option. If this help you - try to set it to x2 or x3 - find a ballance. This option requires too much VRAM.

Hi,

It was the good cure. Thanks

Impressive update.  Landscape filter seems to do a pretty good job of eliminating the shimmering.  Very solid out to the horizon with the SGSS I usually run turned off, but there was still some sort of minor crawling/shimmer-like thing going on in the trees out near the "bubble of blur" line that was a bit annoying - turning SGSS back on at 2x seemed to fix that issue and didn't appear to be causing any undesirable side effects.  Still trying to decide whether I like the "sharp" or "blurry" setting better.  To some degree the blurry one seems to mask/reduce the "bubble of blur" line slightly better - it's still noticeable but a little less so than with the "sharp" setting.  Really looking forward to the day then the devs figure out how to get rid of that "bubble of blur" problem or at least extend it out far enough so it becomes less noticeable, but in the meantime things just keep getting better and better.

Didn't have time to test the mirrors to any significant degree, but did not notice much if any impact between them being absent and being set at maximum.  Updated video drivers after installing the game update, and didn't have any issues with stuttering or FPS drops or anything like that so far (only tried the 3 Stalingrad maps so far).

Thanks and kudos to Jason and the team for their continued work and devotion to improving this great sim!

Anyone else seen very passive AI wingmen after the 2.010 patch?

On couple of occasions I've noticed that they ignored my orders to attack ground/air targets and just circled the area. There was nothing on patch notes about AI but that behaviour seemed a

little strange..

I am seeing the date right.4/5/2016. And I am not so convinced it's not their fault. In fact the update adds new requirements to the operating system.

That Boot Camp drivers fall behind is no surprise. Thing is because the internet game setup forces you to update, as a customer you no longer can choose to play the previous version and in case of Mac Boot Camp users wait for a driver update to arrive.

The game is killed right under your nose. Another thing is that I preordered BOK. The current update promises even before it's released BOK neither will be playable. I doubt it's fair policy to change the requirements of an operating system after you sold the game.

It should stay compatible with the operating system at any time. In case of a preorder you should adjust the requirements of the operating system in advance.

In my opinion IL2S is obliged to find a solution, and if that is not possible do a refund.

S*cks to hear. I hope you find a workaround. (sometimes you can force an installation in command prompt, bypassing some of the bootcamp bs).

I was a long time Bootcamp user too and to be honest I hated it. Apple stopped supporting my macbook for bootcamp only 1.5 years after it appeared on market so I had to forcefully install the Bootcamp 5 drivers through cmd because normal install would not let me.

This game is continously supported and developed. Requirements might change as technology advances. The team can't anticipate every error on 1000 different platforms and can't make it work everywhere. I've done a quick google search and it appears that you are not the only one who has AMD driver problems on bootcamp, maybe try some digging there and hopefully you'll find a way.

Otherwise I'd say: Get rid of that Bootcamp bs. It saved me a lot of hassle.

Posted (edited)

Thanks for your supportive reply. One remark though.  I think it's not about 1000 platforms. It's about Windows 10 and Windows 10/ Bootcamp drivers. NVidia and AMD. I gather that shouldn't to be too hard to anticipate on.

Finally got a mac fast enough to play IL2 smoothly and now this. I  certainly gonna try to install the AMD drivers with the cmd line as you propose. Although I have to figure out how that works  first.

Made exactly the same experiences. Heavy stuttering could neither be remedied by a clean reinstallation of the game nor the nVIDIA driver 382.05. Reducing settings from ultra to balanced, disabling mirror and reducing distant landscape from x4 to x3 helped. Especially the latter did the trick. I run the sim with 1920x1080 @ 60Hz, HDR= on, sharpen= on, distant grass= on, landscape filter= sharp, antialiasing= 4. With this settings I can’t achieve never more than 50 fps (normally 35-45). I can also confirm the passive behaviour of the AI in campaigns and QME.
