Hi guys,

after today IL-2 update, unfortunatelly I have very bad graphics performance.

Before the latest update, I had 59-60 fps (vsync on, graphics "balanced", HDR on + my head tracking system with Opentrack working, in multiplayer server) and the sim worked nice and smooth even on "balanced" graphics settings, but I was happy with it (Nvidia GTX 960 Asus Strix).

Now, without any modification on my pc, just after the IL-2 update, I have low fps (about 35-40 or even less) on the same multiplayer server and with no change of any graphic settings.

I tried to change monitor resolution from 1920x1080 to 1200x800: so fps are good (60) but I got a lot of stuttering, very bothering which makes the sim unplayble at all.

I don't know what to do, any help please?

Do I really need to replace my old GPU (2 years) with a GTX 1070?

Thanks in advance

Have you tried disabling the HUD (h key)?

That is strange, because I've got  ~60 fps today and

GTX770

Thank you guys for your support

actually there was no HUD in that server

I don't know what is happening today if it is my pc fault or IL-2's

Since the update I get gonzo FPS when I do that. It's great!

Hi, do you have v-sync on?

My system runs IL2 perfect in every situations after last patches, except scenarios where are lot of ground objects (tanks, AA, trucks). It´s really doesn´t matter if sky is full of fighters and attack planes. It works very smooth and fps stays at 60. But when i enter to the target zone with lot of ground forces, its starts stuttering. Curious case is that my fps still stays at 59-60! It never goes below that but my track ir movement and overall performance feels laggy while fps still 59-60FPS. Disabling HUD does not affect much.

Devs have done outstanding work to optimize AI  , but could there still be some work to optimize ground objects workload ?! :salute:

I think your problem lies with your CPU.

This game is very CPU intensive and it often causes a bottleneck.  That is why you can get max frames (GPU is handling the graphic rendering fine) but the textures and other information has to be processed through the CPU (as well as all the info about AI, other aircraft, and ground forces), and the sheer amount of them all is huge.  The i5 2500k, while a great processor, is old and getting dated.  You may want to try an overclock.

However if that doesn't work, try setting the affinity of certain programs to certain cores.  For example, I run IL2 on all four cores of my CPU (i5 4690k) but run things like team-speak, MSI afterburner, and other programs on only two cores.  This frees up room in the other two cores to run the game.  Also, try closing all non-essential processes in task manager to free up more CPU for the game.  You can close "Explorer.exe" and free up more CPU; to start it again just open the task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) and click on "run" and type "Explorer.exe", hit "Enter," and it will come back.

These are just things you can do to try and alleviate your problem, no guarantees.

**Edit:  I see you already overclocked your CPU

Hi, do you have v-sync on?

Hello,

No v,-sync, but I'm running at ultra at 1080p on a semi-prehistoric PC. As long as there are just a few planes in the air (4 or so,) I get excellent graphics and frame rates.

I realize many would find only 4 planes to be pretty weak, but to get the full eye candy and some good, albeit limited, action in this sim with my rig is fine with me.

Just happy to be flying. :)

Maybe you can try one more thing, disable Vsync and use FPS limiter (in game option as well) instead.

Vsync - depending on implementation (vary between video cards and the software being used),  will often try to lock your frames per second to the highest value step set by programmers. Those steps do not exist in some implementations, while they do in others for various reasons, and they are usually multipliers of 30 or 60.

Lets say software implements it as multiplier of 30 and you have 60Hz monitor. It will lock to 60 as long as you can maintain 59+ fps but if your frames dip to 40's, vsync can lock it down to 'steady' 30 instead to prevent screen tearing (it's vsync primary function after all).

But if you can hold 60 fps most of the time, and do not care for occasional screen tear in those (hopefully rare) situations when it drops under, try to disable vsync and use FPS lock instead. It will as a side effect also remove input lag making your controls feel a bit more responsive too. And not having fps fluctuation by half (60 to 30 and back) should prevent that stutter feeling.

But this too is very dependent on software, in some games fps limiter gives smooth tear free game for anyone that can maintain frame rate that is multiplier of their monitors refresh rate, while in others you can still see the tear even your fps match your monitor frequency all the time. It's a complex problem with many variables between software and hardware used, so I falls down to you to spend some time to fine tune your settings for this particular game.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I disabled Vsync, but I still had stuttering: the lower I fly, more the stuttering. I think this micro-stuttering issue isn't even related to fps. I don't know, but it depend on the latest IL-2 update for sure, because I dind't have any issue before.

Try not flying on the Moscow map. Especially over airfields.

Hi, I fly on multiplayer servers (Action dogfight and tanks). I can't say what map they choose. Sorry I'm new

the original poster clearly said his performance was better BEFORE the patch, which would indicate that this might be a problem with something that was updated and interacting in a bad way with his specific computer specs, or a problem with the update in general.

for me (without VR) the update introduced an annoying high FPS stuttering that is most noticeable when i follow an airplane with my trackIR view. if i keep my head stationary i can see other airplanes moving completely stutterfree and buttersmooth, as soon as i follow them with my view their movement looks very stuttery and laggy... was not like that before, nothing on my system changed, so it has to be something introduced in the new patch...

Hi, exactly the same here. I notice a very bothering stuttering when I look right/left using my head tracking system (which is not the TrackIR but a very less expensive 3 points infra red clip + a modified PS3 Eye Cam + Opentrack).

Obviously, if I disable my head tracking system, I've got no lags or stuttering, but I can't fly without it.

But, I repeat, I had no micro-stuttering at all before the latest update. Of course, since my graphic card is pretty weak (gtx 960), I had to lower most of the graphic setting, but I had vsync on at 60 fps and my screen resolution was (and still is) 1920x1080. The sim was quite nice and smooth.

Now, due to the strong micro-stuttering, I can barely track my enemy plane during a fight! It's a pain!

So I decided to buy an expensive gtx 1070, I really hope this will work and fix all issues, otherwise ...

This might not be related to OP problem, but yours looks a lot like some reported in Tir5 + force feedback issue. Try looking there for workaround. There is no perfect fix, but some settings proposed by some pilots really help in this department.

I had a problem after patch d where it kept on dropping from 60 to 30 fps when other aircraft were close. The cause was the update some how selected the maximum number for the "dynamic resolution" thingy. Setting it to lowest have me back a solid 60 almost all the time.

I now however have a problem where the cockpit gets blurred all the time?

thats a video rendering issue.

Your cockpit is blurred because you have set now option to lower rendering resolution every time your PC can't render scene at 60 frames per second. Now with that setting, image is rendered at lower resolution and then up-scaled to one you're running, hence the blurring.

Your problem is very likely that you're running to high graphics settings and/or resolution for the hardware you own.
