I've created a wiki for us on Gamepedia, you can find it here.

Please discuss the wiki and ask questions in the topic I've created here.

This wiki will succeed based on community contributions, so please make yours today! Thanks!

Very nice CG! I thought it was funny a WT ad came up on the top main page. Isn't that like a Pepsi ad on the Coke website?

No Ads on the webpage here (tried many load ups)

sound like you got Malware / Spyware or Addware going on there.

Specially if its one of those ads with little light blue X in top right corner they are BAD!

Great work OP

Now just need to fill it

There's definitely ads, that's how Gamepedia makes their money. They just load more slowly than the content (which is great, most sites are the other way around), maybe they time out completely for you. Interesting either way, but I can assure you the ads aren't any sort of malware.

As for filling it, that's where you come in  ;) I did a basic E-7 page and will continue to slowly add stuff, but no way I can do it alone! "It takes a village..." to raise a wiki!

Thanks , very nice Wikiplane project . Where We can write and correct for first step by step all the specificatons of every plane like RoF ... From the Sim , WW2 history archives , for our tests ,compare il21946 ...

like WT but upgraded .

We Can evaluate , make more fisic formulas and take conclusions from WW2 history archives ...

I think the last thing it needs is "conclusions" based on comparison figures to original IL-2 and "R/L history" figures, I don't believe that is the point of this project, it is about the 'game/sim' and making useful info and training advice more accessible in a central place...

There is the FM section here for that kind of stuff

Yes please as Dakpilot says.

Only Information on specs/stats as it is in the game currently
Not how it was, how it could be or how it should be.

Wikis and other pedias will always have issues with historical accuracy from times of old before computers.
until people input all the planes Detailed info into a computer and figure out its Exact abilities that it was able to do without the need for test pilots or eyewitness accounts.

Agree with Dakpilot's point.

Good to see a Wiki finally pop up :salute:

I look forwards to reading your contributions.

Alternately, what might be better, is that you start your own website where you can guide us to the real truth, leaving the Wiki for tiresome things like helping new players find game information, tutorials, missions and videos.

Again you are not seeing or understanding the difference between a Gamepedia site and a Wikipedia History/fact page

Must be a language thing....you might consider using a browser which has spellchecker built in to make your posts easier to understand

GAMEpedia (About the game in its current state only if changes are made the wiki is changed, real facts in the real world do not belong here or matter)

WIKIpedia (Soon to replace All paper encyclopedias (britanica and others) as the worlds most comprehensive and accurate source of information
"Its all about the referenced sources - not the name of the contributor"

Big thanks to JimTM for being the first person to contribute! He linked to a lot of our existing resources, really helps tie things together and works towards making the wiki a hub for Sturmovik knowledge. He also worked through some wiki growing pains with me.

Thanks Jim!

May I make one suggestion?

Il-2 does have a good manual, it should be in there, immediately obvious and easy to see the link on the very first page, not hidden in one of the tabs under tabs etc.

I know it does not cover everything, but there is no need to reinvent the wheel on what it does cover. I am not one to say RTFM to everyone with a question, but sometimes it is the right course of action ;)

Good idea, I'll give it it's own link under the Basic Training header. I do realize there is some reinvention of the wheel happening here, but the wheels we've got are sort of scattered around the forum and not obvious to new players, so I imagined this wiki becoming the cart holding all the wheels together, if that makes sense. And as people endeavor to create new things, the wiki provides a collaborative platform for them, as opposed to a bunch of PDFs and what not.

The manual also only covers BoS, while BoM has been released and we're well on our way to BoK. I was thinking if this wiki takes off, they can forgo the need for updating the manual at all. The devs themselves could contribute the information they would have put in the manual to the wiki. I could make Jason or Han or whoever a wiki guardian too. Many wikis on the site work with some direct collaboration from the developers. Lots of options and room to grow here.

Thanks for the suggestion!

It's good to see that some noobs will have more info on the plane they're dying in and the plane that is killing them.

Hm, good idea.

But I'm instantly put off by "third reich aircraft". I don't like nazi propaganda slang. And how Italy is the third reich escapes me, too. It's not even necessarily Axis (in game it is, though).

How do I edit that?

Yeah, that wasn't me, it was the Gamepedia guy that threw together basic pages for me. I've been slowly trying to get rid of that language... I think I'll go through and strip it all out now actually.

To edit, you just click the Edit or Edit Source buttons on the top right of the page.

Point taken about the manual not being entirely up to date - it si still the easiest way to explain the (confusing and unnecessarily complex) way to set up accounts, log in, etc.

Another "easy win" would be to add the Tech Specs" page, either the content of a link. This page -

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/25993-aircraft-flight-and-technical-specifications-and-operational/

Since Han has stickied it, it should be kept up to date and is maybe the easiest way for the numerically inclined inquirer to get aircraft performance data.

unnecessarily complex? confusing? what?

Posted

Is it just me that finds a process that needs no less than 12 double-sided pages to explain how to get the game going not exactly ideal? Especially since some of the steps are irreversible if you mess them up.

It is easily the worst designed of any game I have ever owned in this particular respect.

Yeah, I kind of copied those values onto the E-7 page I made, but now I'm not so sure that was the right call (reinventing the wheel and all that). I'll link that along with the manual.

The tricky part is that this sort of thing quickly makes the wiki just a bunch of links back to the forum. Ideally, this sort of content gets added to the wiki itself as we grow into it. To continue the wheels and cart anology: The wiki is the cart that holds on the wheels together. But over time, I would like people to start adding to the cart itself, rather than making more wheels, if that makes sense.

Keep the suggestions coming. I put this thing together just to get the ball rolling, because getting started is often the hardest part. I certainly don't think I have all the ideas about what to do with it now that we have it and hope the community really takes ownership of it in the long run.

I dont follow, have you tried setting up and account for a game like DCS? That is a true nightmare, to me BOX is easy to setup and get going in.

Anyways, I like the idea of the wiki, tho i dont think the game contains enough diverse planes or maps, for it to be truly useful for anyone that has been playing for a while? I would imagine that newcomers might be able to put it to good use tho.   :salute:

I already added a link under "Flight Basics".

really nice initiative man, we should start adding the performance charts, technical specs for every plane.

Only on how they are implemented in game. Anything else would presumably be outside the scope of this particular wiki
