VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Thanks ICDP! OT - Is the Scale command (in GIMP) the best way to take my 2d layers (or Layer Groups) to convert them to the 4k template? Seems to work OK but there may be another process that is more efficient.

(many of the now default 2k skins are already just upscaled 1K skins you can never turn a 2mp photo into a 4mp photo but you can turn 4 into 2 No you are wrong. None of our skins are 1K or began as 1K anything. All of our skins are original 2K textures made by our artists. If you are trolling stop it or I'll ban you. Jason
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 No i was not trolling or being rude ......Sorry Just repeating what i was told by someone who unpacked the stock skins and textures and i quote"Thats strange these tail wheels are only 256x256 i can barely make out the tread pattern" If this is wrong i am Very SORRYBut If that is the case then i might have a display bugNot being smart or anything trolly but i don't understand whats wrong.As i look out to my wing with ultra settings @ 1080P and the textures for a fuel cap/filler over 2 meters away i can see the actual pixels or not able to read the writing on the wings. (the german for "no step" is near unreadable for me ) But i can clearly read the writing on cockpit gauges when i view them from bf110 rear gunner (same 2m distance)or the scratch paint on cockpit panel 10cm in front of my face is much clearer than scratched paint on the plane wing 1 meter away.I take it the game must be on Ultra Preset for 4K to work? or even 2K?

=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 (edited) hmm okSo i just downloaded gimp again and loaded up the template i see the entire thing is 4KSo Never mind..i got confused with building the entire project with the smallest part (say a rivet head) at 4K and the rest larger as needed to fit the template so maybe then down sample the entire thing to 4Kso that way the minimum texture used is 4K then when down sampled it would be 4K for the entire plane.??Eg, If i was to do the wing in 4K (bare metal) i would find a Texture that was large enough to do the entire wing in once piece without repeating the texture this texture would therefore be somewhere around 8kpix x 14kpix given my randomly chosen wing length then later i would downsize this to fit within the 4K templatewould that just be to hard way to much ram needed to work with textures that big?would this not be the highest quality?Again sorry No offense was intended I am only Offended by bad smells Edited January 25, 2017 by =r4t=Sshadow14

Jason Hello Jason, This might be the wrong place to ask but: You don't apply that for new planes, correct? The dev teams skins are already marvellous, and I personally think it would be a waste to release them in 2k for new planes just to keep it equal. I Might understand that wrong here.. It would be for a fictional skin. I also referred to the gimp tutorial but that did not help me. Any pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks!
