Oleg had a nervous breakdown and now lives in seclusion.

He mostly blames you.

Well lets be fair. It was not only the US birds that had "quirks". Like the magical  Fw190 Fuel tank that would be pierced by a shot at ANY place.. even the tip of the rudder.. and would leak the whole tank  in exact 5 minutes :P

But I do not envy him having to face legions of fanatics sending  performance charts of how their loved plane was not as  "INSERT RANDOM WW2 FACTOID REMARK HERE" :P

Holy crap, you weren't kidding. I went back and played the original...

Ahhh Kz Squadron. our ArchEnemies!

You were our favourite targets, and we probablly did lots of cursing over you guys!

About 5 years ago I started playing il-1946 online and was recruited by the =mercs= squadron. Had great time flying with some of them. Especially with the squad leader who thought me the basic of formation flying and some tactics flying in pairs. So if any =merc= flying here under a new squadron or new name hit me up!

Anybody knows what doktorkop is up to nowadays? He made some great and funny videos.

Hi all,

Recently got a new PC, joystick, IL-2 BOX, head tracking stuff and I'm loving it as much as I did back then, but now I pretty much suck horribly!

None of my old squadmates are around anymore, and I'd like to know if there is still anyone from back in the day flying. I'd love to find a new "old" group to fly with to help show me the ropes on this new sim. I've been trying to kick the 109 into and out of manual prop pitch control to boost it out of the stratosphere to no avail

I'm contemplating IL-2 rear gunner career.:salute:

I'll probably go online sometimes in hopefully near future when I get myself some decent hardware... my rather old PC can't handle much, joystick died long ago (that Cyborg EVO really saw stuff  ), no tracking stuff of any kind and only two expansions bought.

I'll never be able to put so much effort in the game like I used to in the old days, but I'd like to be around and see where this simming thing is going...

I'd also like to see many people from the old days, the (UBi) community was super-strong back then, HyperLobby really crowded, but also much more 'raw'... chart wars:lol: etc.

Hope those old farts are doing ok nowadays.

You might be surprised; forums like this often induce reunions of sorts. Maybe your old squadmates have new aliases or are lurking in the woodwork of the forums?

If they aren't, there are plenty of us who are quite friendly (that's what I've heard anyway).

A few PM's and a visit to the Teamspeak server may prove useful to you.

Get a new PC! I think the game is pretty well optimized, I don't honestly think you need to spend a lot to get a worthy PC to run this at 1080p at decent frames. As far as the stick, I got this pack with stick+throttle+pedals which was pretty cheap and it works well (though I regret getting the pedals. I could do with just the stick and throttle. I still prefer twist rudder, I guess that's 10 years of playing with an ms ffb does to you).

The head tracking is even pretty cheap now. I remember back then it was TrackIR or nothing. I got a delanclip with a ps3 camera for like $50 and it works just as well as my old TIR 4.

Hopefully you reconsider your career choice, I'd rather have you winging me in 109's or Yak's!

Can`t believe I`m saying it, but I`m old enough to be from that time and that site. I really don`t do Online much these days and don`t really fly the 109 much.  I`d like to be part of a regular Squad again, but the dedication often is more than I can afford right now. It`s easier to do Career where I can delegate my time.  I`m happy to pop on sometimes to just be moral support though!

p.s Hyperlobby, used to hate that thing, then got to like it. Anyway, if you can upgrade I advise you do and Trackir is reasonably affordable, just save I say.

Hey AFJ_rsm I'll see, but for now I can't promise anything in that direction for the time being...

I was also thinking about

Thrustmaster you mentioned is also a good option for me.:)

Well I would recommend 216th squadron. I was in it from the start, just left it because I am abandoning online flying. It is a Discord channel you meet up with likeminded people in all ages for a flight together and some organized flying in FNBF . They fly fighters and bombers. FNBF is flown Russian side. Very nice bunch of people. No commitment whatsoever , unless you choose otherwise

Back in the "Day" I was 361st BeoWolf, then I joined Air Group 51 as AG51_Hoss.......... been playing iL2 (legacy version) since about a month after it was first released, so it's been about 17+ years on this damn game.... lol.  Since IL2 BoS came out I have a very hard time even looking at 1946...............  for a very short time I was AFJ too, I still talk to BlackCloud.  I can not for the life of me remember what my AFJ name was...............   I recommend downloading Team Speak and getting on BoS channel, there are usually a good bunch of guys online flying on Wings of Liberty server, once you get used to navigating without the GPS Coconut's Expert server is good too......  people are more apt to help you out if you are on team speak and you can join a flight and learn as you go........

Thanks guys. I'll jump on the TeamSpeak Hoss suggested and look for a new squad! I do remember BlitzPig, I think I flew against them quite a few times back then!

Was then, and still now Trooper117... I was in EAF 19 Sqn.

Great times with Swoop, Ming, Kristorf etc... Always in hyperlobby flying  co-ops, and the big online wars, making historical missions and living that flight sim dream :)

Sadly, I don't think we will ever get those times back again.

Flight sims, developers, and people have changed... Trying to re-invent the wheel, when what we had only needed to be enhanced to modern day specs.

God, I wish we could go back to those times, but with the modern tech we have today... Still, I am glad to be able to say I was there in the glory days... I've seen nothing like it since.

Sums it up perfectly, and exactly how I feel. I was in JG52 for about a decade under a different name, still some of us around in different squads or solo.

Started with Red Baron, then Warbirds 1998, EAW, Janes WWII Fighters, and IL2 original demo.

Took a 6 year break and started again IL2 BOS 2 years ago, and now with VR having more fun than ever.

I played the original il2 up to 1946, just getting back in recently when they upgraded the new career mode. I loved it so much I went HAM and bought a VR set.

I regret nothing!

Same username as well since... well whenever il2 first went online haha hyper lobby ftw

For what it's worth, I flew the original thru 1946 from about 2004 to 2009. The last stint as TUSA_Gypsy flying matches against other "countries", but I always flew Allied and no matter the squad, Gypsy. Just returned about 6-8 months ago.

386??? Was it an 386 SX or a full blown 386? The 386 SX  at a blazing 16MHz was my first "gaming" machine. Red Baron was my second sim. Great game play. I wish Dynamix was still around.

Had a few names going NS-Ice, IceFire, etc. But yeah, I've been around since about 2002 when I first got into IL-2. I previously played a bunch of flight sims before that like Aces of the Pacific, Aces Over Europe, F-15 Strike Eagle III, Fleet Defender, etc. Good times for sure!

Though not as old as some here, I've been around since 2009 in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946. Same name but different squadron (JAGER back then) and mostly in Spit vs 109, Aces Over Europe, and SEOW ...

I've been at this since the Forgotten Battles release.  Haven't been online since Cliffs of Dover but always tempted to give it a go!
