Trooper117 Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Oh yeah, I was deeply into "screenshotarting" back then and screenshotart.com was the place to hang.. Guys like Kristorf... Graf..and of course our dear friend F19_Olli72 Hey Klunk Yes, Kristorf joined EAF 19 shortly after me as I remember.... Imagine how happy I was to find out that Chris was one of my old army mates. We served in the same regiment. Chris (Kristorf) was also a prolific skinner... he made some fantastic skins for IL2 for our squadron. I still have all of them as the old IL2 is still on my hard drive! 1
6./ZG26_Loke Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Flown as RAF_Loke since before the original Il-2. Since January 2000 in the good old CFS-1 days, where we used Roger Wilco as comm.
Mac_Messer Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 How many here flew the original Il2? Kinda like a reunion of sort. Maybe some of us can meet old friends. I was (Stanger) back when the beta came out what 15 years ago. Yes, I was piloting the virtual Messerschmitt from 2001 to 2007 as carguy_ aka Vierbein. I recognize most of the names here. 1
Ranger Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 You bet!! I flew with Pedro, Brando, Cudgel,.... and that gang for several years..tooo much fun! If it's the same Brando, I think I've seen him post here a time or two. I recognize a few here, and should get back into the sim flying. The videos I watch are just stunning, compared to the old IL2!! RLTW
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 I started out as "Bone_Man" flying for NS and AC2E back in Fighter Ace 2.x days and used that handle for most of my FA career. After about 2006 I started going by "Corpse_Grinder" and used host co-op missions that I made on Hyperlobby along side other amazing co-op makers like "Madjek" and several others I cant recall. Ultimately, I just shortened the name to CG_Justin after everyone kept calling me "CG" anyway. Been using CG_Justin ever since.
Gambit21 Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 I remember Madjek He was a good guy - used to fly in my CoOps too if I recall.
69th_chuter Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 I've been in since the demo. Finally bailed after 4.12.2m.
AirDnD Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 I bought IL2 in a Walmart electronics department ~2002. The Box was the old style, big like a board game. The cover looked like this: 2
SvAF/F16_Ramrod Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) Lots of nostalgia in here Been flying since the demo in 2001. I remember the first picture of a He-111 in an article over at combatsim about some new flight simulator based around the famous russian ground attack plane. I was not impressed at the beginning as I was more hyped for "The mighty eight" with their nice "hollywood" tracers Edited December 1, 2016 by F16Simon
SvAF/F19_Klunk Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 (edited) Tsisqua? Tully_? T_O_A_D? fordfan25? Treetop64? madsarmy? oh and I haven't seen Black Death track for quite awhile . I wonder what kind of FPS I would get on vanilla '46 installation in my current 4 year old rig Edited December 2, 2016 by SvAF/F19_Klunk
SvAF/F19_Klunk Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 (edited) ...btw.. considering that this wonderful thread seems to be a nostalgia thread, let's continue with writing down some memoires.. in text.. pictures, clips, stories, jokes etc. Maybe they can be an inspiration for the team and us all... I thought I could pitch in with this... a fellow squadmember helped me - today actually - to find these lost files a very dear squad friend made back in 2006 based on a F19- sortie on Zeke vs Wildcat. Finding them again brought back a whole lot of good memories. I am also very greatful that this IL2 team has taken over the torch, with their game; building a foundation for a continuation of the great community that is IL2nerds Ps. I'm the dude who got shot down in the Betty by a friendly Zero... This clickable thumbnail system with NEXTpic available on the right hand side on each pic is very handy for a comic Edited December 2, 2016 by SvAF/F19_Klunk 7
ShamrockOneFive Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Klunk! That was amazing! Do you have these stored on a website somewhere? Is there more than just this one? Also... you should totally do that for the new IL2! :D
SvAF/F19_Klunk Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 (edited) Sorry my friend, this is not my work but the work of a very good friend and squadmate who is no longer with us. (I was hesitant about posting them for that reason, but for me anyway it's also a celebration to his memory). He was an amazing screenshot"artist" and very able photographer - but foremost a good friend. He made us laugh a lot with his quirky sense of humour - a really good guy. This is the only comic he did; it was very time consuming. He would have loved the "new" IL2 and especially the direction towards the Pacific.. the Ki43 Hayabusa was his favourite plane. But it's true: it is indeed a good idea which could and should be used more: I am sure we have some very capable artists amongst us. Here are a few of his screenshot art work. These are "stored" amongst his other screenshots at our website but right now not in public view... Edited December 3, 2016 by SvAF/F19_Klunk 5
SvAF/F19_Klunk Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 (edited) ..and here are a few of my own... 1. The sinking of Akagi 01 2. The sinking of Akagi 02 3. On final 4. Dangerous approach 5. Gladiator vs gladiator Edited December 3, 2016 by SvAF/F19_Klunk 8
SvAF/F16_Goblin Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 HI there, flew with JG301 Wilde Sau as JG301_HaJa from the very beginning. Then with 332 Squad.
DD_Crash Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Tsisqua? Tully_? T_O_A_D? fordfan25? Treetop64? madsarmy? oh and I haven't seen Black Death track for quite awhile . I wonder what kind of FPS I would get on vanilla '46 installation in my current 4 year old rig Hi, T_O_A_D is still flying 1946 with the DangerDogz and has also flown with us in CloD
BlitzPig_EL Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Yup, and Monguse is flying with them as well, I need to get with them and do a little '46 flying.
DD_Crash Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 You can find Todd on here http://dangerdogz.com/forums/
Yakdriver Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Here are a few of his screenshot art work. These are "stored" amongst his other screenshots at our website but right now not in public view... Those shots bring back memories of an image... La-5 standing in tall grass, engine cowls open, smoke pouring out as it cools down. a few chunks of tail missing, Pilot lies in grass, absolutely exhausted.
BeastyBaiter Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I flew IL2 from 2001 to around 2006 (Pe-2 was the last addon I bought), was known as Maj_Death or I/JG1_Maj_Death at the time. I remember flying with Ian a lot, made more than a few COOP missions for him to host. I recognize a few other names too from the time.
StG77_Kondor Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Man, blast from the past. I vividly remember flying CFS2 on RW with friends, when someone mentioned the IL-2 project. Then the countdown until the 2001 demo came out, the rest is history. Hours and hours spent in HL participating in VEF, VOW, and all the great full real DF servers that were available. 1
SvAF/F19_Tomten Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 (edited) Klunk inspired me to look through my old screenshots. It was really nice seeing the old stuff from my first simulator that I played since I was 12 years old. While looking I found a picture of a really cool feature the original had, the ability to add your own face to the pilot.. So here's an old screenshot of 17 year old me manning a gun turret (never got the face 100% centered though)! Edited December 4, 2016 by SvAF/F19_Tomten 1
Chief_Mouser Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 dunkelgrun from just after original Il-2 was released, 242Sqn_Cat a bit later on and now this. Spent an inordinate amount of time on making compatible all the maps that went into HSFX. Still got all the Il-2 boxes and disks - and a hard-drive full of map-related stuff. Cheers.
6./ZG26_Loke Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 I made two short comics based on the Il-2. Using SP: http://www.balbo-net.org/comics/Condor-Down.jpg Using MP: http://www.balbo-net.org/stalingrad-front.htm 2
6./ZG26_Loke Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Close combat between RedWulf's and RAF662. 1

BP_Lizard Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 defterlizard, then became BlitzPig_Lizard in the old UBI forum. Been playing since it first came out. @Klunk: Those are amazing! Much love and respect to your friend and his memory. 1
SvAF/F19_Klunk Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 (edited) Screens from two different missions on Zeke's 2009 and 2010 I think... SvAF nights... U think I am excited about Pacific? Edited December 5, 2016 by SvAF/F19_Klunk 3
VBF-12_Stele Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Good times. Spent many hours on Zekes v Wildcat. Some of the greatest sorties were on those Warbirds of Prey servers.
Gambit21 Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Zeke vs Wildcat was the best "air quake" room no doubt, and often we elevated it above air quake status.
