You think this is still possible? At the moment I am studying the manual but it is great to hear from people with actual experience like you. You're welcome joji. You can make a cooperative PvP mission. For steps 4 and 5 in the instructions that I linked to, create planes for both sides. Note that the manual does not cover any cooperative mission topics because that feature was added after I published the manual in 2016. The cooperative content was just something I published separately. Also note that my experience is limited to the basics in using the editor and multiplayer server. There are people in the community with more experience in running multiplayer missions for various requirements, perhaps including a team balance requirement for coop missions. They may be able to guide you if you run into issues.
Horizon123 Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Thank you for this manual. Out of curiousity - when there are so many examples of flight sims with intuitive and user-friendly mission builders - why did the devs see fit to make something so complicated, so complex, that you need a detailed manual each time you use it? I'd like to build an AAA practice mission, with a truck, and 20 planes that just do passes, but without all the other stuff the quick mission builder adds in. For the life of me, I'm going through this manual and thinking, as many steps and entities as are linked here, I feel like the only piece of the 'editor' missing is the 3DS Max Logo when you load it, and the ability to use C+ or Python, depending on the modules you have installed.

You're welcome SB. Re. your question, my understanding is that it was originally a developer tool that they made available to the customers to use. So, they did not set out to make it complicated, that's just how it is due to its origins. Some people with experience in multiple editors have stated that the IL-2 editor is more powerful than other editors so you can do more with it. I'll leave it to others to confirm or dispute that. Anyway, the editor is what it is so you just have to decide if it's worth the dedication it takes to climb up the learning curve. Some people take to it and enjoy the challenge of creating better and better missions, while others decide that their talents lay elsewhere and move on. There are certainly many more resources available now than ever before, many of them in the IL-2 Resources post and many of them posting right here in this forum. Have a go at some simple missions and then decide if the editor is for you. Cheers! Jim Edited February 4, 2022 by JimTM

FTC_Evans Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 (edited) Hello all im getting back into Il-2 owning most of the current collection focusing on BoS and all its dlc Used to have the original game and loved it and would mess with the editors Digesting a lot of great info on this forum including editors and this manual but had a question. Please forgive me if this has been answered somewhere and I’ve missed it or if this isn’t the correct place to post but are any of the mission scenarios included with the dlc expansions available to be converted into a coop multiplayer game so I can play with a friend? I don’t see these mission files in the folders for editing so I’m assuming it’s proprietary as it came with the game ? Just had to ask though in case I missed something. Want to play Rhineland p-38 mission with a friend and was hoping to convert it or see if a clone had created before trying myself. thanks all! Edited March 28, 2023 by P40hawk__ Grammar
Hanu Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 All maps are available in multiplayer to all clients regardless of what modules you own. You need to make sure that there is a plane that your friend owns/can use and you'll be fine.
FTC_Evans Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Thanks Hanu the maps are available but can I fly that particular scenario with him ? I don’t see where I can pick it or grab the file to edit it thanks again

Thanks man! I can't seem to open the samplemissions - probably because they're made for 4.6xxx and what have we now 5.xxxsomething? Any chance of an update on the samplemissions? I can certainly learn a lot without them, but I could probably learn even more with them. Alternatively: Is there any way I can update them myself - or is that going to be too wonky for a newbie? I don't know if the mission file is usable - and to be honest, I don't know if that goes for the missions that came with the game, but it's worth a shot? UPDATE FOR @Evans_: I found this in JimTMs manual: Edited August 2, 2023 by Roshko

Quick question: I am trying to modify The Moscow Playground by Stoopy, so that I can fly it in coop with a friend. I can't seem to locate the info on creating Coop-missions in the manual. Of course I have to change the missiontype to "Coorporative" [EDIT: I changed that to "deathmatch" because it says "only single or deathmatch" in the manual] - but should I just copy the playerplane and set it to "player" (and perhaps move it a bit to avoid a collision) and save the mission in the Multiplayer/Coorporative folder? EDIT: Lotsa questions when you're a newbie, and the old folk have to answer the same over and over again - sry about that. The amount of info is a tad overwhelming when you're just starting out. When I do as I suggest, then the original plane is changed to AI "since there can be only one player" - even though the mission-properties are set to coorporative. OH! - in the planes advanced properties there's an option to choose "coorporative start" - that was easy LOL! This is not a thread about my missionmaking problems, but about the manual, sorry I disturbed. and thanks for the help with converting old missions! jollyjack Posted March 26, 2024 Posted March 26, 2024 (edited) Jim's Manual is still a great resource for the ME, but with all the new stuff meanwhile i begin miss an update for Jim_TM's ME manual more and more. I tried to add stuff to it as experiment, but i am a nitwit with PDF editing, so i failed especially on lay-outing and page numbering, let alone making stuff searchable. Some forum helpers published great information and useful groups worthwhile to be added. If published of course you'll need their OK however. Any ideas for some 'update' for the ME as a project?
